You’ve always loved shoujo manga. You remember when you first got your hands on the world of comics, you drifted into the romance genre. Ever since you were little, you were bewitched by the idea of a high school romance – especially the atmosphere around it. You imagined that being in love would make the world shine, the days pass in a blur while the only thought on your mind would be your lover. You fed yourself with the prettiest classrooms, late night hang outs, great friendships, happy endings and the idea of having the sweetest youth anyone’s ever known.
Of course you knew that those stories were a bit of a stretch, yes — your life won’t be as cinematic as those in your favourite shows, but you expected at least some resemblance. Your brother, Jun-tae always made playful remarks on your taste in manga and dramas, not that you listened, he was a fan of most shonen, by far – not your favourite kind, but there were some titles that piqued your interest. Nonetheless, you still borrowed (stole) some positions from his shelf whenever you got bored…
Up until now you’ve lived a quiet life, no one has caught your attention in middle school, and even though one would assume that you’d seek romance out – you were perfectly content with reading it for now. There’s no need to rush things, is basically your motto now. You believe that love is supposed to hit you after slowly growing through the chapters of your life, therefore you let time pass.
Besides, there’s something big waiting for you. Something you’ve been preparing yourself throughout your whole life for, something as sweet as honey, something that will turn your teenage years into a love story, something that will make study group sessions exciting.
Your first love.
You’re going to find it in your new high school, you’re sure of it. This is the best time to have a crush, fall in love, and eventually — be in a relationship.
