Work Text:

It was such a beautiful rainy night. It had been raining the whole day, and that's what made it so peaceful. Idia had arisen to the sound of soft rain pattering on his window. He decided to take a nap while waiting for his husband, Malleus, to arrive home.

"Man what time is it.." He looked around the room with heavy eyes until he spotted the clock.

"1:30AM?! Is Malleus home yet.."

The boy stood up from his bed and stretched, rubbing his eyes. He walked towards the door and cracked it open to peer into the hallway. Surely his husband was home by now.

Truth be told, Idia saw Malleus standing in the kitchen making tea. He opened the door fully before exiting the room. He made his way over to the kitchen to greet the older man. Malleus heard footsteps and turned around. When he saw it was his husband, he smiled softly.

"What are you doing awake, dear?"

Idia yawned and went to hug his husband.

"I took a nap waiting for you to come home..why did you take so long?"

"Ah, I'm sorry, my love. I was caught up in a bit of what they call..traffic? so it took me longer to get home."

Malleus holds Idia close, setting down the cup of tea he had made. He runs his hands through Idia’s hair lovingly.

“Well, how was your day?” Malleus asked, still holding his husband close.

“I finally leveled up my character after losing so many rounds.” Idia exclaimed. “I'm glad you weren't there to see me lose, but I still missed you.”

Idia yawns as he backs away from Malleus. It was such a long day, he just wanted to sleep again. His husband lets out a soft chuckle.

“Are you tired? I was gonna ask if you wanted to go take a walk in the rain but it appears you're too sleepy for that.”

Idia lets out a small giggle. “I would love to go on a walk before I sleep..I don't like going out, but..since it's dark out and no one is really outside I think I'll be able to if you're by my side.”

“Wonderful.”

Idia and Malleus walk towards the front door to grab their coats. Idia throws his coat over his sweater. He gets cold very frequently so he's always seen wearing a sweater no matter the weather. Malleus slips on his coat and puts the hood up. He turns to his husband and puts his hood up as well.

The tips of Idia’s hair turn pink as he looks away in embarrassment. The couple put their shoes on and opened the front door. They stepped out and closed the door behind them.

“It's so..boring out here.” Idia groaned.

“You think that because you're always playing your..what do you call it..games.”

Idia lightly jabbed the fae man in the side with his elbow. “Hey!” He chuckled. Malleus laughed softly as they began walking.

The soft rain hitting the ground around them is all they hear while walking. Nothing but silence surrounds the couple. There were occasional noises from the streets, but that's all that was heard on this quiet, peaceful night.

As they walked—they found a bench to rest their feet for a bit. Idia was the first one to sit down as he was the least athletic one since he never goes outside.

“HUGHH” Idia groaned, running his hands through his hair. Malleus sat down beside him and smiled softly. He moved closer and leaned into his husband, taking in the scent of his hair.

“Are you—are you sniffing my hair?”

“You smell good.” The fae man answered. Malleus kissed Idia’s cheek and his face was flushed along with his hair.

“I love when the tips of your hair turn this pulchritudinous shade of pink.” Malleus said.

“What the hell did you just say to me?” Idia exclaimed, looking perplexed at the man beside him.

“Hm? pulchritudinous?” The horned gentleman asked—curious as to why he was surprised. “That word basically means ‘beautiful’ as you humans call it!”

Idia stared at the man. Then—he bursted out laughing. “Well, that's..” He trailed off. “Ugh whatever! Thank you..for the compliment..on my hair? Ehehe.”

The two husbands stared at each other with such love in their eyes. Malleus grabbed one of Idia's hands and kissed it gently—the taste of rain lingering on his lips. “I love you, my dear Idia.”

“ILYT!” Idia shouted, embarrassed at the sudden declaration. He gave the fae man a quick kiss on the lips and turned away.

“Shall we continue our walk?” Malleus asked—standing up from the bench the two were resting on.

“I guess so..” The other man rubbed his eyes. It was almost 2AM and Idia hadn't slept a whole lot considering he took a nap while waiting for his husband to arrive.

“Hmm..” Malleus looked at Idia. “Maybe not. We should go home and get some rest, my dear.” He grabbed Idia’s arm and began walking the opposite way of where they came from.

Idia smiled softly at this gesture. He was glad his husband noticed how tired he was—otherwise they may have been walking for another 30 minutes.

On the way back home, Idia kept dozing off so Malleus had to pick the man up and carry him on his back. He grabbed his legs tightly to make sure he wasn't able to fall off of his back.

The rain started to fall harder so the fae had to hurry and run home so the two couldn't get soaked. Malleus had jinxed it with that thought because as they arrived home and stepped through the door—he was drenched and dripping water onto the floor.

He thought to himself, how was he supposed to get his coat off with Idia on his back? At that point he didn't care because he walked through the house without a care in the world for the water on the floor.

Malleus brought Idia to the bedroom and took off his coat. He began undressing the sleeping man to put him into more comfortable clothes. After he did so—he placed the covers over his husband and kissed his forehead.

He grabbed the man's coat and left the room, closing the door behind him. He put Idia’s coat on the table in the kitchen and began taking his coat off as well. After he placed it down he went to grab pajamas from the bedroom. He had to be quiet since his husband was sleeping peacefully.

Malleus yawned as he finished getting dressed. He exited the bathroom and headed towards the bedroom where his husband was sleeping. The fae man opened the door and closed it behind himself—then walking over towards the bed. He climbed into bed gently as to not wake Idia.

“Goodnight, my dearest Idia.” Malleus whispered softly, giving the man a loving kiss on the forehead.

He began to caress Idia’s hair, playing with the strands until he fell into a slumber. The rain still going as the two slept. The soft pitter patter on the window being the only noise to be heard.
