"Kumon?" Tenma called out, peeking into the dark and empty storage room.
There was no answer. Sure, his photoshoot had run late, but he still wanted to make it back on time to help with the props for Kumon's next play. Had they finished everything already? That would be a shame. He had hoped that he and Kumon could maybe stay late and finish the set pieces together … just the two of them. He even brought a gift to apologize for being late too!
He tried turning on the light, but nothing happened after he flipped the switch.
"Great," he muttered, stepping inside and taking out his phone to use it as a flashlight. "Didn't we change the bulb in here just last week? Guess Sakyo-san bought the cheap ones again …"
He wondered if maybe they went to build the props somewhere else since the light was broken. But no, there were little ghost statues on the floor, and see-through fabric strung across the room and torn to make it look like fishing nets. So what-
"Booooo!"
Oh god. Oh no. This is why ghost plays are a bad idea!!! It's practically asking for a ghost to be summoned!!! And now he'll get kidnapped and teleported to the other side and he'll never-
"Got you~"
… see Kumon again?
"Wow, your heart is going crazy fast!" Kumon laughed, loosening his grip and moving the arm that was clinging around Tenma's chest just enough for his hand to rest on top of Tenma's heart.
"W-W-Well of course! You're holding me …" Tenma awkwardly mumbled.
"Ah, so it's not because I spooked you?"
"What? No? Psshh … I wasn't scared," Tenma pouted, crossing his arms.
"… really?"
"M-Maybe a little bit … but mostly because I was worried about what happened here!"
"Oh, we finished early! But I knew you'd come to see us as soon as you got home, so I thought I'd see how scary the props really are!"
"They're not that- I mean, they're not- I mean, for someone who gets scared easily, I can see how they'd be pretty scary! Not to mention you dropping out of nowhere, where did you even come from?!"
"Sumi-san showed me how to climb up on that closet," Kumon pointed up. "I jumped down behind you when you walked by! It's like practice for that part in the play where I slide down a sail mast!"
"But you'll be wearing a safety harness for that … you could have hurt yourself doing this!"
"You think? Hmm, it's not that high …"
"S-Still," Tenma mumbled, placing his hand over Kumon's and intertwining their fingers for reassurance. "Don't scare- I mean, don't, uh … don't make me worry like that, okay?"
"Okay!" Kumon happily nodded, sneaking his other arm around to cup Tenma's face. "Can I make it up to you?"
"Y-Yeah …"
First, it was a soft nuzzle against the back of Tenma's neck. Then a kiss on his cheek. And then Kumon spun him around in his arms, and pressed their lips together head on.
Only then did the tension leave Tenma's body, and he slowly calmed down and settled in Kumon's embrace as they kissed.
"… I really scared you, didn't I?" Kumon quietly asked once they pulled away.
"Mhm … yeah," Tenma reluctantly admitted, avoiding Kumon's piercing gaze.
"Then why wouldn't you tell me that? I'm sorry, Tenma … I won't do it again!"
"Don't worry about. I just … didn't wanna look lame. I'd prefer it if you thought your boyfriend was cool, you know?"
"Oh I think my boyfriend is very cool!" Kumon smiled, kissing his again. "Like really … really … really cool!"
"… e-even if I'm easily scared?"
"Just means I'll need to hold you extra tight next time Kazu-san picks a horror flick for movie night, right?"
Tenma wondered if it would be worth it to totally embarrass himself in front of the whole troupe if it meant showing everyone how strong and caring his boyfriend was. Maybe? Possibly?
"… you'd hold me for the whole movie?"
"Yup! And I'll cover your eyes for the scary parts, and if they'll be longer, I dunno, maybe we can kiss so you're not scared?"
"Okay! I, uh … I mean I guess that sounds reasonable … you know, if Kazunari does ever pick a particularly scary movie to watch."
Though at this rate, Tenma might make a horror suggestion or two himself. It could be good for him anyway, right? Maybe Kumon could help him shake his fears … and then he can broaden his range as an actor, and be even more cool.
"Anyway …" he sighed, finally returning Kumon's firm hug. "I am sorry for being late - but I brought you a little something!"
"Yay, a gift! What is it?" Kumon stepped back, looking at him.
"I think I dropped everything I was holding when you jumped down … here's my phone, but where are- oh, here!" He picked up two polaroids from the floor, dusting them off before handing them to Kumon. "We took some shots on a polaroid camera between outfits … they said I could keep them."
"It's an exclusive Sumeragi-san photo card! Woo-hooo! Tenma, will you sign it for me?"
"If we go somewhere with a working light bulb, sure."
"Right, I should put the light bulb back before we go … gimme a sec!"
So that was part of the plan too, huh? Well … Kumon sure was committed, there was no arguing that.
But Tenma absolutely wouldn't lose to him, he thought later that night as he signed one polaroid 'to the coolest boyfriend ever' and the other 'to the guy I really really love.'
