“Hey Deadspace!” Disc chirped as Deadspace entered the interrogation cell that the General had given over for use as a recording and broadcasting centre, the space refitted so it wouldn’t trap them in, with the recording booth on one side of the one way glass and the sound booth on the other. “Something up in the sound check?”
Deadspace nodded, making an aggrieved noise as she crouched next to the electrical wiring.
Something was not properly working, something was fizzing in the audio that was coming through to her and it was bothering her. She could fix it in the mix, but she would prefer not to have to.
“Electrical noise.” She said, after finally finding the words to answer Disc’s question. “Fixing it.”
“Thanks, hope I didn’t make it happen.” Disc said, peering under the table at Deadspace. She shrugged. It was probably just the fact that they were reusing cables that had already been through a lot, all of their equipment cobbled together from broken military hardware.
She checked all of the connections, plugging in the cables as tight as they would go and making note of some of the ones that wouldn’t go any tighter. She checked all of the casings at the joins and nothing seemed frayed, which was all she had time for before they had to be on air. She went back into her own space and got Disc to try again.
There was still noise, but it was less, and for all Deadspace wanted to go through and check every part of every wire, she could see the countdown to air time out of the corner of her eye and knew she had no time.
She adjusted the final few knobs and switches and then pulled the big lever Cyl had made for her ‘for the bit’ as they said, changing the lights and pitting them on air at the exact same time.
Disc immediately stilled his fidgeting and flashed her a brilliant smile.
“Hello gentlevode and thank you for tuning in to 137 Vode An FM. We’ve got some exciting stuff coming up in the next two hours,” Disc began and they had lift off.
