Chapter Text
Hollie could feel the sweat drip down her back, though there was a ceiling fan directly above them and the thermostat was a cool 74°F. She had never felt this nervous before, not even when she was taking her AP exams last year! She looked over at the teenage boy beside her on the couch, he had shoulder length dreads He wore a purple sweater with a white collared shirt with a tie tucked in underneath. His black slacks were ironed and pressed to perfection and his shoes were shiny. He nervously glanced at Hollie, who was this boy? Easy, he was none other than Donatello Hamato, he was disguised as a human by using a mystic cloaking device that was embedded into the tie he wore and as soon as he loosened and removed the tie he would turn back into his turtley self.
Sitting in front of these two love birds was none other than Hollies parents: Ollie and Stacy Anderson. Stacy was busy glaring at Donatello, trying to dissect if this "emotionally unavailable bad boy" was good enough for her sweet sweet Hollie. Ollie, on the other hand placed a hand on her wife's knee to try and silently signal for her to calm down. It was a very quiet and tense moment... Until Stacy spoke up.
"So, Donatello, was it?" Stacy prodded, her icy glare now focused on the teen in purple, trying to analyze everything about him.
"Yes ma'am, but feel free to call me Donnie for short, ma'am." Donatello replied in a quiet tone, not sure if he should speak louder and risk being yelled at. He couldn't help but mentally punch himself at his double usage of "Ma'am" what was he, a middle schooler? No, so he had to get his act together or they may just boot him out like last time because he said "Hey" instead of "Good evening"!
"Yes, well, what are your intentions with our daughter, hm?" The older brunette raised an eyebrow, ready to rip him apart at the slightest grammatic mistake. Hollie turned red at this question, her teeth grit together as she yelled out.
"Mom!"
Donatello cleared his throat and sat up straighter, if that even was possible, he held back a chuckle at Hollies embarrassment. "Well, my intentions are strictly pure. I do not wish to do anything but love and appreciate your daughter." He held his breath.
Stacy analyzed him for a minute before responding. "Is that so?"
"Yes ma'am." He confirmed.
The tension in the air grew thicker and almost suffocating to the two love bird teens as Stacy pulled another question from the back of her head.
"How many times have you kissed?" Stacy leaned forward. Hollie let out an exasperated groan and fell back onto the couch, earning a chuckle from her more calm and relaxed mother; Ollie.
"None, ma'am." He reassured.
"Why's that? Is my daughter not good enough to kiss?" Stacy tested, leaning forward, this caused Hollie to cover her face with her hands and groan.
"No ma'am, she's perfect. I'm just a bit of a germaphobe." Donatello smiled, but he had never felt his heart beat faster, and even though he was known as an adrenaline junkie he would rather jump off a cliff with no parachute than continue this extremely awkward and stressing conversation.
Stacy leaned back, squinting at the boy. Ollie then placed a hand on her wife's shoulder and pulled her close. "Have you been on any fun dates?" She smiled, making Stacy huff quietly as she leaned into her wife's shoulder.
Donatello thought for a moment, he can't say he's actually taken her on a proper date due to this whole situation, but he's done lots of romantic gestures for her and they've bonded a lot over all sorts of things. He thinks back to a month ago when he successfully genetically mutated a batch of flowers to grow without any pollen so he could give them to Hollie, and sure they tried to eat her but that wasn't his fault! Maybe a little. He shakes his head, his dreads lightly smacking against eachother as he tried to think back further to any possible dates, he remembers giving her welded flowers from spare titanium he had laying around—no not a date. He crosses one leg over the other and puts a hand on his chin, what about the time on the rooftops? No, that doesn't even classify as a date. Dinner at Run of The Mill? No, there was a flower yokai that made Hollie have an allergic reaction and swell up like Violet from Willy Wonka. He couldn't think of a single date they have been on, how ridiculous! As soon as this meeting was over he was going to take her on one, a proper date!
But now he had to admit to her parents that he had never taken her on a date despite them dating for at least two months.
"No... No ma'am, I can't say we have." He sighed, looking back at the two older women interrogating him.
Hollie sat up at this, she heard a slight shift in his tone which was very unusual for an "emotionally unavailable bad boy" such as himself. She frowned. "Well, we've hung out a bunch, he's April's brother. Kinda. They're like siblings. It's weird." Hollie chimed in, realizing how awkward she sounded, which caused her to shut up quickly.
"Family is family, no matter where they came from or how they got here." Ollie smiled, rubbing Stacy's shoulder. "Why haven't you gone on any dates though?"
Donatello sighed, trying to think of something to say, anything that made sense and didn't make him sound like he was "too busy for Hollie" or anything.
Donatello mumbled and started to trail off. "I uh... Well..."
Hollie placed a hand on his shoulder, tapping him lightly as if to say that it was alright. He softened at the small gesture and leaned back. Hollie sighed and looked at her parents before she spoke up. "He's broke."
Donatello sputtered and his face heated up, he was a lot of things: a ninja, a teen, a turtle, a bad boy, a genius, a brother, cooler than Leo! And Donatello 'Purple' Hamato was NOT broke! But before he could even protest and defend his honor, Hollie slammed a hand against his mouth and cradled him close as if to comfort him. One hand wrapped over his chest and onto his arm, holding him firmly as her other hand wrapped around from behind his head to cover his mouth and hold his head close to her chest as if she was comforting him. Which she was not.
Stacy and Ollie both gasped, clutching their hearts in unison. "Oh you poor thing." Stacy cooed, reaching forward and gently patting his head.
Ollie frowned and shook her head with a sigh. "How unfortunate..."
Hollie nodded and cradled him close, shushing him as if he were about to cry, which he definitely was not. "He didn't want to tell you because he thought you would think less of him." She rubbed his back.
Ollie sighed and reached over to hold his knee to try and comfort him. "Oh, we would never! Oh sweetie, it's okay..."
Stacy nodded and gently pat his back. "Oh and that explains these—unique clothes." She forced a smile, trying to be nice.
Donatello looked up at Hollie from where he was literally being held hostage, he glared at her with a look that said she would regret this. Hollie, of course, didn't care and pushed it further.
"Yeah, but he doesn't let his finances get in the way of him showing me how much he appreciates me." Hollie stated dramatically, making Donatello groan.
And so continued the long afternoon of meeting Hollie's parents, now all Donatello had to do was tell his father him and Hollie were dating. Hopefully it doesn't get more awkward than this...
