Work Text:
Susie probably should've seen this coming. She saw the way Kris's eyes were starting to close, the way their posture was starting to slump.
But she didn't. And now, she had a little problem:
Kris was asleep. With a bunch of stickers on their face.
Okay, so now it was time to, uh, clean up those stickers. Because she was pretty sure Miss Toriel would kill her if she saw this. On second thought, that was definitely an exaggeration—the worst she'd do was scold them, hell, maybe she'd even laugh—But still!
Susie was a good friend, and she wasn't about to let Kris wandering around with stickers on their face after she'd already thrown the ones on her face away.
Alright. Time to wake Kris up.
But wait—They were really tired after everything that happened in the Dark World, weren't they? Why wake them up when they clearly needed the rest? And it really didn't seem fair if Susie managed to get more sleep than them.
Alright. Time to not wake Kris up. Instead, Susie was going to take the stickers off herself. Yeah.
…She just wasn't sure about the logistics of that yet. Maybe she could just wing it?
No, that was stupid. She could wing it for a lot of stuff, but not Kris's sleep! This was important to them!
"I've got this," she muttered to herself, softly and quietly, desperately trying to avoid waking Kris up.
Susie brushed the hair away from her face and leaned in close, trying to avoid letting any brush up against their face. A few strands ended up falling over their cheeks, but hey, that didn't matter, did it? As long as they were still asleep, all was good.
Now to start peeling the stickers off. Susie's claws were long and sharp, which was going to pose a pretty significant problem, considering she didn't want to maim them. Susie had threatened to claw their arms up, once, back when she was still bullying them. They'd just laughed in response and said she sounded like a stray cat. She'd been indignant about it at the time, but now…
It was a nicer response than she deserved, honestly.
Careful to avoid hurting Kris, she gently hooked the tip of her claw underneath the sticker, starting to lift it.
If someone told Susie that, she probably would've been pissed at them. She was pretty sure anyone would be. But Kris—Kris never cared. It was like they'd already forgiven her for all the shitty things she'd said and done, despite the fact that she hadn't even said sorry.
Susie wanted to say sorry for it all, even if she couldn't get the words out. More than that, she wanted to go back and thrash her past self's ass for ever trying to lay a finger on them. Seeing how vulnerable they looked, chest slowly rising and falling, head limply laying back—Susie winced and the thought of the neck pain that'd cause them and decided to prop their head up with her free hand—Susie felt a weird instinct to protect them.
The sticker came off.
Kris was cute, huh? Real cute. It was kinda surprising they didn't have many friends, come to think of it. And the fact they were single, too. They were cute, and cool, and they ate moss, and could flirt like all hell, and wow those lips were soft—
Why was she thinking about that? In a rush to forget about it, Susie flicked under the other sticker a bit too hard. Kris groaned. Damnit, did she wake them up? Did she hurt them?
Thankfully, Kris just muttered something about an angel and tried to chew on her finger, which she admittedly let happen for a bit before pulling it away. Alright. So they were asleep. That was great.
Susie didn't know why she cared so much about not hurting Kris, why she tried so hard. Even with, say, Ralsei, or Noelle, she never tried that hard. Maybe she was guilty? Yeah, that made sense.
But guilt didn't explain why the sight of Kris's peaceful face—those bright red eyes fluttered close, those soft, plush, pinkish lips slightly parted, tousled wavy dark brown hair, and slightly flushed skin—made her feel so-
No point in overthinking this. Kris was cute and everyone knew it. And cool, and- and- Holy shit, their faces were real close right now, and they were breathing on their face and she was probably breathing on theirs, and someone looking without any context would probably think they were kissing, and-
Was it hot in here, or was it just her? It wasn't her, dragons had great tolerance for heat. The air conditioner was probably broken.
"And the girl totally kissed that human afterwards—"
Very helpful, catgirl giving that sermon. Very helpful.
"I mean, it was so obvious they loved each other when she gently got the stickers off their face and- omigosh that scene was, like, so cute!"
Very helpful. Susie was probably a tomato right now, damnit. She remembered that moment back in the TV Dark World, when Kris grabbed her all of a sudden, pulling her over like they were going to kiss. She didn't do anything about it. And then, they did nothing. She panicked and told them to eat her hair.
They were definitely gonna make fun of her for that, weren't they? Then again, even when they called her weird, Kris seemed… Shaken up, to say the least.
Ugh, this was all so confusing.
Would Susie have acted like that if it was Ralsei who pulled her over? It probably would've been a lot more annoying. Wait, why though? What was the difference between Ralsei doing it and Kris doing it?
Did she… want Kris to kiss her?
Okay that was enough thinking about that for her entire life. Back to peeling off stickers.
Gently, Susie finished getting the last of them off Kris's face. All good. Just in time, too. The sermon was almost over.
Alright, time to wake up Kris.
Wait. Kris was probably insanely thirsty right now! And—
Oh holy shit that was blood-colored juice. Susie knew what she had to do.
She stood up, filling up two cups of the blood-colored juice. And then she remembered that Kris's face was probably really sticky. The juice could wait for a bit. Just a wee bit. Susie decided to get up and wet part of a napkin. Rushing over to Kris, she wiped off their face, trying—and failing—not to think about how intimate this felt. She then used the dry side to wipe off the water. Kris stirred a little bit more than before, but in her defense, this was a rush job.
But then she realized how embarrassing it'd be if Kris caught her doing this, so she went right back to slowing down.
Their face was dry. Perfect.
Susie got up, and brought back the glasses of juice. Now—
"Kris! Hey, Kris, get up!"
"You know," Kris said later. "Those stickers..."
Their words were vague, but she knew exactly what they were talking about. They knew she knew exactly what they were talking about.
They grinned at her impishly, damn them. They knew exactly what happened.
"Shut up," she said. They raised an eyebrow.
"Didn't say anything."
"W-Well, you thought it!"
Yeah, forget everything she said earlier. Kris was so goddamn annoying.
...She hoped they drank that soda she gave them back in the Dark World.
