Chapter Text

Aventurine leaned on his ship, sighing. Not even a day on the island and he was already bored. Nothing - neither his crew, nor the waves, nor the tiny treasures they’d found - could entertain him.

Nothing, absolutely nothing, he needed something new - something challenging, something that would make him think to the point where his brain would burn out. Yeah something like that would be nice.

But no - this island is so uninteresting and featureless that Aventurine would find the lectures from Ratio more entertaining.

Aventurine turned around and walked towards the door that leaded outside to the islands sand.

Stepping onto the sand, he found it just like every other island - warm sand, soft waves, and the chirping of birds.

A gush of wind passed by, making his necklaces and the accessories on his clothes jingle.

But there was one more thing - Aventurine didn't know if he was hallucinating or not but while it was winding he heard a voice. Not just any voice but it was like someone was singing. Aventurine couldn't explain it but it was soft - almost like he heard an angel sing.

Aventurine turned towards from where the voice came from. He was faced with the other side of the island.

Well it was whatever - Aventurine turned around and started walking back up to the ship and his crew.

Night fell, and while the crew slept, Aventurine stayed awake.

He looked at the ocean, the moon was shining brightly up in the sky and it made the ocean look a little purple.

And then again, he heard it - a soft, ethereal singing as if it was calling for him in the quiet sounds of the night. Even though he heard it a little clearer this time, he still couldn't pinpoint out the words, only the melody.

So what did Aventurine do? He started following the voice.

The voice led him not far from his ship, if he calculated it would roughly be around 1,5 km. But that's okay, if he still could see the ship it was alright.

With each step the voice got clearer and clearer.

Aventurine must admit - this persons, or rather this beings voice was magnificent, they had such a smooth and clear voice it made Aventurine almost drunk.

Aventurine suddenly stopped as he realized something.

"Is that perhaps a siren?" He questioned himself, if it really was a siren then he wouldn't be surprised.

Aventurine has met many sirens and other sea creatures on his sailing journey.

"Hah, even if there is a siren, I'm prepared and besides I don't mind a little challenge." He smirked as he set out further.

After a while Aventurine arrived at a huge rock.

"So this is where the singing comes from?" He whispered to himself as to not scare the creature behind it. He was slowly and quietly tip toeing as he came closer to the rock.

He put his palms on the cold and wet rock and cautiously bend his head to look over it.

The shore, that was behind the rock, hit it gently causing it to make splash sounds. And just around the area there was a medium sized rock. Around the rocks were many sea flowers - water lilies, lotus flowers and others.

And on that medium sized rock there was a person sitting.

Aventurine squinted then he rubbed his eyes.

It was a-

"Oh my..."

A mermaid.

Not a siren, not some kind of rumor. A real one.

He could not believe this. Seeing sirens was one thing but mermaids were rare, you could see one once half a year or more.

Aventurine looked up again, this time he looked at the mermaid more closely.

Looking at the mermaid, he noticed some odd features. The mermaid was a little tall - taller then the average mermaid. They also had broader shoulders and muscular arms.

Aventurine's eyes wandered across the mermaids upper body. His eyes then came into an halt as he noticed that the mermaid didn't have a chest.

Oh, Aventurine then realized that one, it's very weird of him to look at someone's chest and two this wasn't a female mermaid as Aventurine thought - it was a male one. To be precise, a merman.

"The moon sure is beautiful tonight, right my little friends?" The merman stopped singing as he looked down at the water.

'Friends? There isn't anyone around. Or don't tell me he is talking to the flowers?' Aventurine thought as he observed the merman.

The merman took one of the sea flowers, so he was indeed referring to the flowers when he said 'friends', and smelled it.

"You guys are so beautiful and one thing about you I like is..." He paused as he put the flower back on the water "You don't go around and watch others." He added as he slowly turned his gaze to Aventurine.

'What?!' Aventurine's eyes widened as he quickly hid behind the big rock.

'Did he see me? But I did my absolute best to not be noticed, or is this merman smarter then I thought?' Aventurine thought as he slowly looked back. But to his surprise, the merman wasn't there anymore. "Huh?" Aventurine slowly started walking out of his hiding spot. The shoreline there was shallow water rather than sand, so he had no choice but to step into it.

"For a pirate you are really smart." A voice said from behind. Aventurine felt something swirling around his feet.

For a second Aventurine was surprised, then he saw the merman and started laughing.

"And for a sea creature, you’re real good at creeping up on people. Got a thing for pirates, do you?" Aventurine took out his sword and pointed it between the mermans eyes. His intention wasn't on harming the merman, just scarring it a little. That wouldn't hurt, right?

To Aventurine's surprise, the mermans eyes widened and he let go of Aventurine's legs. He dived quickly into the waters.

"You are one of those." He said as he came back up to the surface. Aventurine looked at him, the merman looked disappointed and sad at the same time. By the time the man said that, Aventurine already put his sword back.

Aventurine was quick to catch up to what the merman meant.

"If you are referring to the pirates that take mermaids and merman and sell them on the market, I'm definitely not like that." Aventurine paused, taking a step further, "I'm not a monster nor a villain, I just like collecting treasures and some adventure." He said as he smiled, a genuine smile.

"But we are basically treasures." The merman said as he avoided eye contact with Aventurine. He made his way back to the middle sized rock and sat on top of it.

Aventurine clicked his tongue. After explaining himself so nicely, the merman still looked at him like he was dangerous.

"I don't like sharing special treasures. I like to keep em' to myself." Aventurine said as he looked at the man.

The merman was quiet after that but the blush on his face was enough of an answer for Aventurine.

"Care to share you name, pretty boy?" Aventurine said as he winked at the other man. He put his hands on his hips, waiting for a response.

"It's Sunday."
