I Found A Wand And Wished For My Best Friend to Be Nice To Me But Now It's Weird

Summary:

KRBK Month 2025 Day 7: Magic Wand

Kirishima found a magic wand! He is going to use his powers for good!

Notes:

Sorry, this is late. Had a change of work schedule, and the exhaustion hit me yesterday before I could finish this up.

I hope you all like it!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It was a stick.

That was all it was. A random stick Kirishima had picked up from the ground while they had been out for a run. Now, the idiot kept insisting it was a magic wand, and Bakugou could feel his eye twitching. They were now sitting on a park bench resting, but Kirishima was just playing around

“Fly!” Kirishima exclaimed as he pointed the stick at a bird. The bird got spooked and flew away, but Kirishima smiled so proudly. “It worked! My spell worked!”

“You’re a fucking idiot,” Bakugou grumbled.

“You’re just jealous that I have magic powers and you don’t,” Kirishima replied, sticking his tongue out at Bakugou.

Bakugou rolled his eyes. “Yeah, I’m so jealous of a stupid stick you found on the ground.”

“It’s okay, I will grant you any wish you want,” Kirishima offered.

“I was being sarcastic.”

“And I will still grant you a wish.”

“Can you throw the stick away?” Bakugou asked.

“No!” Kirishima exclaimed, lifting his stick away out of Bakugou’s reach.

“Shitty hair, I will break that stick,” Bakugou threatened.

“You wouldn’t dare,” Kirishima gasped dramatically.

Fuck, yeah, he wouldn’t. He couldn’t do that to Kirishima… but he wasn’t going to admit that. “THROW IT AWAY!”

“NO!”

“You are taking that thing back to the dorm? Is that what you’re saying?” Bakugou huffed.

“I can’t throw away the source of my powers!” Kirishima sounded offended at the very thought.

“You are a fucking pro hero in training.”

“And now I’m a wizard!”

“You are ridiculous,” Bakugou told him.

“At least I know how to have fun. Have you ever had fun in your life, Grumpy?” Kirishima pouted.

Bakugou glared at him. Of course, he knew how to have fun. They had fun together all the time. That was the stupidest question ever. “What? Am I a grump now since I don’t like your stick?”

“Pretty much.”

“You know you’re friends with me, right?” Bakugou pointed out.

“Yeah, which makes me the perfect person to declare you a grump,” Kirishima declared.

“You are insane. All over a stick.”

“It’s not a stick. It’s a wand! A MAGIC WAND!” Kirishima emphasized, standing up and walking a couple of steps away, turning to raise the stick over his head.

“There is no such thing as magic!” Bakugou shot back, standing up but staying by the bench.

“Says the guy who shoots sparkles out of his hands,” Kirishima scoffed.

“TAKE THAT BACK!” Bakugou yelled, letting out a couple of explosions, which did not help him.

“No, you are literally a sparkling princess,” Kirishima pointed at him with his free hand.

“What the fuck?!”

“Apologize to the wand!” Kirishima demanded.

“Or what? You’re gonna turn me into a frog?” Bakugou rolled his eyes.

“That’s an insult to frogs.”

“I am going to punch you.”

“I will make you be nice to me,” Kirishima threatened, raising the wand towards Bakugou.

Bakugou let out a short laugh. What were they even doing? Standing in a park, as the sun was setting, fighting over a stick ? He couldn’t believe it. He had almost forgotten he had been planning on confessing to Kirishima. He hadn’t come with a plan, but all he had ended up doing was start a fight with the boy he was madly in love with. Had it been nervousness? Anxiety? The fear of rejection that had kept him quiet for over two years now?

And now, Kirishima was asking him to be nice. Only that. For him to be nice.

Kirishima was the only person who deserved that. He was the only person Bakugou wanted to ever be nice to, because no one, and he meant no one, should ever make that redhead idiot anything but happy.

“So do it,” Bakugou challenged. He extended his arms to his side.

Kirishima hesitated for a second. “This feels like a trap.”

“Not if it’s actually magic,” Bakugou answered.

That seemed to be enough for Kirishima to point the stick at Bakugou once more. “You are going to be nice to me from now on!” he declared.

Bakugou thought about having a big reaction to “the magic” but decided against it. He simply scratched the back of his neck. “Yup, magic,” he declared as he turned to grab his and Kirishima’s water bottles in one hand from where they had left them on the bench.

“We should get going before we get in trouble for heading back late,” Bakugou said as he waited for Kirishima to join him. No ounce of anger or annoyance in his voice. Honestly, he wasn’t either of those things anymore. He had been an idiot, and he was going to make it up to Kirishima.

Kirishima looked at him with narrowed eyes, walking cautiously towards Bakugou with the stick ready in case he needed to defend himself. Bakugou simply waited for him and started walking right next to him. “I’ll make dinner for us once we’re back,” Bakugou said as he started thinking of what to make.

“What?” Kirishima asked.

“Do you want to order out instead?” Bakugou asked. “I mean, we could. I just got paid from my internship, so I’ll buy whatever you want.”

Kirishima looked at Bakugou with pure confusion. Then, realization flashed across his face. “Ha ha, very funny, Bakugou.” Kirishima shook his head. “Stop it. You’re freaking me out.”

“What? I don’t mind buying you food,” Bakugou told him.

Kirishima blinked at him. He continued walking next to him, but kept eyeing him the whole way.

Meanwhile, Bakugou was making their dinner plans. “We could order from that steak place you like,” he offered.

“It’s too expensive,” Kirishima said right away.

“That’s fine. I told you, I just got paid,” Bakugou shrugged, before adding, “It’s worth it if it makes you smile.” A small smile pulled at his lips.

Kirishima blushed slightly. “Dude, wha-”

“We are almost back. Tell me what you want so I can order it. That way, we can be done showering when the food arrives.”

Kirishima did as he was told, but he was still staring at Bakugou as if something was off. Looking at the stick in his hand now and then, but not saying a word. Bakugou wanted to reach out and grab his hand, just from how cute he found that confused puppy eye expression.

Then again, he was supposed to be nice.

So, he let out a breath and took Kirishima’s free hand in his. He continued talking and walking as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

***

Kirishima was having a nervous breakdown in his room as he stared at the stick he had picked up at the park. He had been trying to push Bakugou’s buttons. After all, he had been joking, trying to pull Bakugou’s leg about it being a wand. It had been a game he had played growing up, and he had just done it. Thought he could get Bakugou all annoyed before making him flustered by getting too close to him during the argument.

Hell, Kirishima expected anything… except for it to work? Did it work? Why was Bakugou being so nice to him? Why was Bakugou holding his hand while they walked? What had the wand done? Or had it been him?

He couldn’t piece it together, and what made it worse was the guilt. He didn’t want this Bakugou. He wanted his Bakugou. The one who would yell but show he cared in actions. The one that would bicker with him but never mean a single insult other than as a term of endearment.

Kirishima liked his Bakugou. He liked that he was the only one who was allowed close enough to rest his head on the blond’s shoulder. That he was the only one Bakugou worked out with. That they were best friends even when Bakugou claimed to like no one.

It was his special position.

That’s why it didn’t matter if they were never more than friends, because he was already special to Bakugou in his own way.

He almost wanted to cry when they arrived back at the dorm. He half expected Bakugou to go around being nice to everyone else, which, just the thought of it, made him feel like he had gotten punched in the gut. He braised himself for it, only to watch Bakugou yell at multiple of their classmates on their way up to their rooms.

Had the magic only worked for him?

Kirishima ran a hand through his face in frustration. He was going insane now, too. That was the only explanation for how Bakugou was acting. Right? It’s not like Bakugou suddenly decided to be nice after their not-so-serious fight.

He left the wand on his desk and headed next door to Bakugou’s room, where they were going to eat. He didn’t know how to feel about this. He was usually giddy about being allowed in Bakugou’s room when no one else was, but now, he was simply nervous that he was walking into a trap. Either way, he walked into the room and found everything set up on the desk.

Bakugou was sitting on his bed, and he turned towards Kirishima and gave him the sweetest smile he had ever seen on Bakugou’s face.

Kirishima almost walked out there and then.

He couldn’t do this. He couldn’t be around Bakugou when he was acting like this. It was too much for his heart. Not only that, his brain didn’t know how to act around this Bakugou. The usual jabs and playful banter seemed out of place. All he wanted was to pull him close and ask if he was feeling okay. He wanted to ask him to stop smiling at him like that, unless he wanted to get kissed until they passed out due to the need for oxygen.

Kirishima shook his head. Nope. Can’t be doing that.

“Wanna watch that movie you told me about?” Bakugou asked.

Kirishima looked at him, confused. “The one you said didn’t sound that scary?”

“Yeah, but you still want to watch it. And honestly, the premise sounded interesting,” he shrugged, already setting up the laptop for the movie.

Kirishima watched him, but he couldn’t do this anymore. “Okay. You can stop that. Stop it.”

“Stop what?” Bakugou asked, looking over at Kirishima with his head tilted slightly.

“Stop being so… nice!”

“I thought you wanted to be nice,” Bakugou pointed out, his bottom lip pouting slightly.

It made Kirishima’s heart ache. “I know, but I just… I am so confused.” He ran a hand through his hair, trying to organize his words. “You don’t have to be nice. You actually already are very nice to me… in your own way. This is just… too much? I don’t know. It’s like… I know how to act around you, and I know you don’t mean it when you’re mean to me. And I like feeling like I’m the only person that you can tolerate because it makes me feel like you might actually li-” Kirishima snapped his mouth shut. He had said too much.

Suddenly, Bakugou was standing in front of him. Looking at him so closely, as if trying to see something that Kirishima was hiding. “I might actually what?” Bakugou asked. Red eyes focused on Kirishima’s face.

Kirishima could feel the blush rising to his face. He wanted to look away, but he couldn’t. Not with everything almost out in the open. Kirishima opened his mouth, but no words came out… so he took a step forward. His hands cupped Bakugou’s face, holding him gently in place, but giving him the option to pull away as he took another step. Suddenly, his lips were hovering over Bakugou’s. Hesitating.

That’s when Bakugou closed the last bit of the gap and let their lips meet with a sigh and a whimper. Neither of them was sure who made what noise. It wasn’t even important as they let themself melt into each other for what felt like an eternity, too short for them to really enjoy.

“I am always nice to you,” Bakugou mumbled against Kirishima’s lips, “fucking jerk.”

“There’s my Katsuki,” Kirishima replied before kissing Bakugou again.
