Work Text:

You thought you were going to die on this spaceship. Your water and rations were running dangerously low, and so was oxygen. You struggled to remember what the warm embrace of hot water and proper sleep was, and not having to fix an engine every two hours. Your fingers fell onto the console, sending out one last empty radio signal to great nothingness of space.

Is anyone out there? Over’

The blinking signal eventually faded into darkness, like all other previous attempts at finding someone or something. With a heavy sigh, you peeled your attention from the screen and onto your other problems. Something in the engine room is broken again, and you had barely any supplies to fix it. You stood up, weak wobbly legs dragged you towards the ladder, descending it with no elegance and almost falling off. The other ladder had been broken for awhile, so you had to climb to even attempt to fix anything. You thought about your crew, pushing back those thoughts as you attempted to focus. They didn’t go all at once, it was a slow process. First the incident, then the fighting, and lastly the consequences of their actions. You didn’t want to, but you had no choice. Dried blood still stained the industrial walls and floors of some places. Blinking back to reality; you nearly fell off the unstable structure. Quickly remembering what you were doing before it was too late. Your uncomfortable blue uniform that looked like that of a glorified tv show mechanic’s or a janitor of some sort. Thankfully, you remembered to bring your toolbox with you this time, so you wouldn’t have to climb back down and get it.

You worked without a care in the world, focused on repairing. This was your only sort of entertainment you could get in this personal purgatory that endlessly drifted through space. A loud thonk coming from the hallways woke you from your delusions. You were skeptical, thinking it was just something loose sliding around, but hearing it again quickly changed your mind. Setting your tools down, you got up, jumping from the engine platform to the other platform, barely avoiding that death drop below. You entered the hallways, not sure what to expect. Then you saw it; big purple hunks of metal flooded the hallway that put all your previous knowledge on robots from robocop to shame. They spoke a cryptic language, one you couldn’t understand.
