Chapter Text
Ena was…. Somewhere.
She wasn’t sure where, but that was pretty much the status quo.
The interesting part is that the Somewhere she was in was a factory!
It slightly reminded her of the factory she was created in, but there were some differences.
Such as the fact that the only Enas here were workers, and not being produced.
Speaking of those Ena's, when she attempted to strike up a conversation in order to sell some Bone Glue™(100% ethical!) they ignored her!
When they didn’t respond to any of her other sales pitches, just went on working the levers and buttons in front of them, she pitched some Certified Organically Grown “Free” Will.
When that didn’t work, she simply moved on.
Alas, all of the Enas in this part of the factory were entirely focused on their work.
Which was good, because efficiency is the most important target in life, but also bad because it meant Ena had made no sales.
Dejected, Ena made her way out of the factory, hoping for better prospects outside.
Instead, she ended up in some sort of worker's village.
This could still work for her though!
Perhaps there would be a more receptive customer inside one of the dreary gray homes.
Every single house was exactly the same, with smooth gray walls, a gray roof, and a small garden out front filled with grey flowers.
It was pretty boring, except for one house near the end of the street that had a slight pop of color in the window.
They took that as a sign from gød that her customer would be inside that house.
So, she quickly made her way down the smooth gray sidewalk, to the front walk of the building.
As she approached the front door, the color moved, jumping down from the windowsill inside, proving there was definitely someone home.
Going to knock on the door led to it swinging open without a creak.
Slightly creepy considering the inside of the hall was pitch black, but she couldn’t focus on that as they had a sale to make!
Carefully making her way inside, she looked in every room she passed finding nothing but dreary gray wallpaper and drab gray furniture in each and every one.
So they continued and finally made their way into the kitchen that was at the end of the creepy hall.
Finally, a bright pop of color silently perched atop the kitchen table met her eyes.
Compared to the flat gray tones of every single other plane in this house, the bright green and red of the creature before her was nearly a flashbang to her eyes!
She carefully approached whatever was before her, and studied it closely.
It was a strange duck shaped thing, wearing a neon green and red jumper, with blue sneakers on its peg like feet, and a paper boat hat.
Instead of an eye, there was a hole in its head that went all the way through, and its mouth? was permanently open, giving it an airheaded look.
Despite the 0 thoughts in its head, it seemed rather cute!
So, like always, Meanie gave in and went to pet it.
She hesitated for a second, as she didn’t want to knock its little hat off, but she eventually figured it out and stroked its back softly.
It didn’t perceptibly move, but they got the feeling it was leaning into her touch in spirit.
Even though it made no sound, it somehow gave the impression of purring in contentment at Meanie's soft touch.
A few minutes later, the front door creaked open, and soft steps made their way down the hall.
A motherly voice from the front room said “Box! Oh, Boooox! I’m home! Did you miss me? Did Uncle try to kick you again?... Box?”
Ena froze up as the footsteps got closer, as did the voice.
“Box? Are you in the kitchen again? Please don’t tell me you're trying to cook again, we only just got the kitchen repaired.”
With that, a grey and dark Blue Ena in a dark blue and teal dress entered the kitchen carrying a gift bag.
“.......”
The other Ena stared at her for a few moments before asking, “Oh! Hello. Who ar-” before being cut off by Sales frantic babbling.
“So so so so so so so sorry for the interruption ma’am! Sincerest apologies! Really truly verily sorry! My actions have truly been regrettable, I suppose I ought to be making a quick departure as an apology! Fare-thee-well!!”
With that, Meanie gave one last pat to the creature now labelled as Box, before scrambling past the Ena in front of her and down the hall.
Just as she reached the door she threw one last remark over her shoulder, “Oh! And your companion is truly wonderful! You really ought to promote him!” before slamming the door behind her and disappeared down the street, now full of the factory workers heading home.
Watching her go, the Factory Ena remarked “Well, ...she was peculiar. But she seemed rather nice! Do you think she's a new worker here, Box?”
Box offered no answer.
