“It’s cold out tonight…why are we out here again?”
“You said you wanted to go stargazing, silly.”
“Yeah but, ugh. It got colder than I thought it would…”
“Just lay close to me then. I’ll keep you warm.”
“R-right. Of course. Um, the sky looks pretty today…doesn’t it.”
“Hmm. Oh yes. The sky…”
“Ack! J-just look at the sky would ya? I can’t concentrate with you’re big beautiful eyes staring right at me! Wait…I…”
“Heheheheh. I was only teasing. The stars are wonderful tonight.”
“They really are. Hard to imagine they’re just flaming balls of gas billions of miles away…”
“I suppose so…but look at that one. It looks so close.”
“It’s still the same as any other star, you know. Still impossibly far away.”
“That doesn’t make it any less beautiful. Besides, there’s excitement and wonder chasing after the impossible, don’t you think?”
“I guess so…it’s just like us then”

“Hey, hold your hand out. I want to show you something.”
“Eh? Um, okay…”
“Now just curve your hand like mine, okay?”
“L-like this?”
“Mmm hmm. Now this star…this star is us.”
“Huh? I don’t get it.”
“Well…its burning so brightly, so brightly the whole world can see. It’s glorious and shining and brilliant. You can’t always see it, but it’s always there. Ready to guide us, comfort us, be us.”
“But it’s so far away…”
“It can seem that way, but it’s also closer than you think.”
“But stars…they go out…”
“That’s true. But as long as we’re alive it’ll shine. And long after we pass it’ll still shine, the same way it shone before we were even born. Because that’s how long I’ve loved you.”
“I…I…gosh you make this difficult. I…love you too.”
“I know. And no matter how far we travel, we’ll always see that star.”
“Because you never want to leave me?”
“Now you’re getting it, tee hee”
“Do you think we can stay out here a little longer?”
“Anything for you, my star.”
