Work Text:
the ocean gently lapped at the shore. giorno, mista, narancia, fugo, and trish were thoroughly engrossed in throwing a volleyball around at each other. bruno sat back, watching the sun slowly sink beyond the horizon. nothing could make this perfect day any better. he was in his happy place, his found family completely surrounding him, sitting on a private, peaceful, quiet beach, all day long, without a care in the world. no missions to complete, no bosses to please… only bliss.
lying on a towel next to bruno, leone let out a content sigh. he stretched his arms out and sat up.
“hey.”
“hi.”
“you look a little sunburnt.” leone smiled.
“you’re worse.” bruno scoffed, gently poking leone. “you look like a damn lobster. did you even put on sunscreen?”
leone looked playfully offended and clutched at nonexistent pearls. he laughed and shook his head.
“i’ll be alright.”
bruno rolled his eyes and laughed alongside him.
“i’ve had such a good day today.” bruno smiled softly.
“yeah?”
“this has to be as good as it gets. you’re right here, my best friends in the world are right there…”
“i think it could get better.” leone’s smile grew subtly. he immediately began fishing around in his bag.
bruno raised an eyebrow.
“i’m intrigued. do go on.”
leone stopped digging around and quickly turned around, hiding something behind his back.
“guess.”
“what?”
“guess which hand i’m hiding something in.”
bruno laughed.
“what are you doing?”
“just guess.”
“alright, fine. it’s in your left.”
leone opened his left hand. nothing.
“okay… right?”
leone put his left hand back and pulled out his right to reveal… again, nothing. he grinned.
“really?” bruno asked, slightly unimpressed but still smiling.
“okay, okay. you got me.” leone laughed. he brought his hands out from behind his back. in his left hand was a small navy blue box, covered in velvet. bruno’s eyes widened.
“you’ve got to be kidding me.”
“bruno, you know i’m not one for huge public displays of affection or emotion or lovey-dovey shit. i know you kind of are, though, so i wanted to make this moment one that we could both be happy about and treasure forever.”
“leo…” bruno’s cheeks went pink.
at this point, the rest of the gang had stopped chucking the volleyball at mista and had begun to watch leone and bruno.
“oh my god!”trish squealed when leone brought out the small box.
“wait, what’s happening?” narancia asked.
“you idiot! just shut up and watch!” fugo shushed narancia excitedly. mista and giorno grinned at each other.
“bruno buccellati, from the second we met i knew you were the one i’d want to spend the rest of my life with.” leone slowly opened the box. inside, a beautiful silver ring sat. it was very simple, but it had small gold lettering inlaid.
‘home.’
bruno’s eyes prickled with tears.
leone cleared his throat. his cheeks were flushed at this point, and tears stung at the corners of his eyes as well.
“will you marry me?”
trish screamed. narancia’s jaw dropped. mista, fugo, and giorno high fived each other. they all ran towards leone and bruno and the guys dogpiled on top of the two.
“wait, wait!! he still has to say yes!” trish giggled.
“holy shit, you’re right!” mista said. they all climbed off leone and bruno, who were both laughing. bruno nodded, wiping tears from his face.
“yes. leone, i’ll absolutely marry you.”
a cheer erupted from the five excired onlookers. leone and bruno shared an eye roll.
bruno held out his left hand, and leone took the ring from the box and gingerly placed it on his fourth finger.
“i love you.” bruno grinned from ear to ear, tearing up again.
“the only place i’ll ever feel at home is with you, bruno.” leone smiled, brushing a tear from his lover’s cheek with his thumb. “i love you so much.”
leone leaned forward, and delicately kissed bruno.
“oh my god, you guys are such saps!” mista said, stifling a sob.
“says the guy who’s absolutely crying.” giorno smirked.
“am not!”
“oh, yes you are.” trish wiped a tear from her own eye.
“listen- it’s just-“ mista sniffled, tears streaming down his face. “i can never handle proposals, man…”
bruno laughed.
“i love all of you idiots too, just so you know.”
mista completely broke down, sobbing. bruno stood and patted him on the back, laughing. this was truly the best turn of events.
as the whole group walked back up to their beach house, mista and fugo chattered away, with narancia, trish and giorno gently tossing the volleyball between themselves. leone and bruno followed behind the five, walking slowly. leone gently wrapped an arm around bruno’s shoulders. bruno smiled.
“you never fail to amaze me.” he said, turning and kissing leone quickly on the cheek. leone chuckled.
“you have no idea how long i planned this.”
bruno shook his head.
“i swear, if this whole trip was planned around this…”
leone grinned silently. bruno laughed.
“of course.”
