Work Text:

The cute cyan of his webbed hands are now stained with multiple colours of the rainbow paints from his vase making, as the shades on the pot are washed off yet again. He just can’t seem to get the design right.. he knows it’s missing something, one problem, what is that thing and how does he find it?

“Ugh, I need some inspiration” Gyokko thought bitterly, planting a tired face into his crossed over scaled arms from exhausted annoyance. It’s a waste of time to just lay around here anyways, instead of working on his art.

Big, hyper golden eyes peer out the hut’s door to check where the sun is in the sky—seeing the night and full moon’s reflection and low rim of sunset’s pink in the view of the beach shore’s water. Seeing that it is night he leaves the colourful comfort of his house.

His tail slithers around bases of trees and their rough bark stealthily, not getting so much as a scratch thanks to his demonic nature as he moves through the patch of giant silent forest out in the middle of nowhere, leaving a trail of slight dampness from the slick on his serpentine tail.

‘Inspiration, inspiration, inspiration…’ A loud bang from up ahead from the darkness makes him jolt almost out of his skin, biting down on one of his tongues, blood being spat out onto the cold grass. Damn it.. who was that noisy maggot banging stuff at this time?!

He walks to the noise, attempting to stay a bit out of view just in case of something like a slayer was there, they were always incredibly noisy, always attacking anything that resembled a demon, they were so annoying, not a threat but a time waster for Gyokko. His tail curled around a tree, gaze peeking out from behind it, the darkness masking his light coloured tail.

Surprisingly enough there was no uniform on the noise maker. Speaking of that same man, he was shirtless, showing off well defined muscles as he punched a tree, apparently having nothing better or more sane to do in the middle of the night in a random forest, why? Boredom perhaps. That weirdness peaked Gyokko’s interest, of course. Because who wouldn’t appreciate a hot, tall, handsome, strong-

Oh, he was walking off now, ‘Leaving are we? Already?’ Gyokko won’t let such an unique figure leave his sight willingly— he followed him from behind at a safe enough distance, the taller human apparently not caring enough to look or notice anything behind him, not even a glance over the shoulder in his direction, the ignorance, ugh! Well now he just needed this man’s attention!

Piercing golden eyes watched from afar in the shadows as the man slowly walks all the short distance to large gates leading into a village, how bothersome. Gyokko’s claws dig into a tall wall of the gates, pulling himself over it with some struggles and plopping down face first into the grass, though it seemed everybody was too self absorbed to notice anything amiss.

Gyokko quickly rushes to watch the man from outside the house as the man, through the lack of closing his entrance, takes off his mask and laid down on a pathetic excuse of a bed that was like more of some shitty mattress on the cold, concrete ground of his old, stupid shack, his eyes screwing shut.

Gyokko slithers his way inside, blinking up at him as he stays low to the ground just in case he decides to check if a fish demon is watching, getting an appreciative mental image of his face, and ahem, his abs. His pale white cheeks dust a light pink, resisting just loud squealing at the handsome sight because he knows it’d wake him up, the tip of his tail swaying back and forth excitedly.

He shakes his head for a second, drawing attention off the human in favour of glancing through the measly other open room of his house. Swords strung on a wall, a boring undesigned oil stone box, a bland anvil, god this place was so bare bones it just made something tingle inside Gyokko’s brain to paint it all up with bright colours and intricate designs!

He turns to the man, he NEEDS to give him something, otherwise he’ll be clawing his walls all night long thinking about the bland environment, he’s practically gushing about the guy despite not even knowing his name, in thoughts of what he would need, god he has to relax for a minute! Alright, he can’t bring too much at once, that’s wayy too suspicious.

A vase? Yes, brilliant, but what kind and how will he leave that there.. he looks around, swords… aha, this man must be a swordsmith obviously, they need somewhere to put their swords, right? A tall vase should fit them! He feels something horrible in his gut in a not so good way for once as he leaves the house for a mere minute in favour of finding the man a present.

He practically dives through his door after a journey in those woods, throwing stuff around that he’ll probably regret tossing so carelessly later to find something. A beautiful man needs a beautiful vase, a elongated vase, now he must paint it, but what? God, don’t tell Gyokko that he’s back to square one again.

That man… Gyokko attention is immediately all put onto that vase of his, taking a paintbrush in a still stained hand and hurriedly getting to work on a design with his newfound inspiration, more specifically, a painting of a specific swordsmith man sleeping in a forest surrounded by trees—truly the perfect muse fit for a masterpiece.

God, he admired the way sweat dripped from punching and down those- oh right, he had a gift to give! No time for silly thoughts! He won’t get this chance for long, there is only so many hours during nightfall before the sun bears its face, but god if he wasn’t going to appreciate it, his cheeks were so hot like they were going to fall off.

He practically ran straight face first into the walls of the village from how fast he rushed back over here and straight up bashed a hole in to enter instead, tripping over his own tail. He sets the vase by the entrance, but shouldn’t he leave something? He rips off a piece of one of his shimmering, translucent scales, he can just regrow them back anyways, and writes some way too insanely admiring words on it.

‘Too much? No, no, anything I write is perfect anyways!’

Placing the scale note onto the vase’s rim and finally giving into the giggle as he quickly retreats, knowing he shouldn’t stay for long, especially because Gyoko knows now where he resides, inspiration indeed restored~ He must return home immediately with him still fresh in mind! Which is what he does exactly.

Notes:

I don’t plan on making this anything more than an oneshot, but if I do, I’ll update it to say so.
