The first pale light of dawn seeped gently through the curtains, casting soft, golden beams across the room.
Aether’s chest rose and fell unevenly as he slowly woke, his body trembling with the residue of a nightmare that still clung heavy and cold to his skin..
He blinked against the dim light, the memory of that nightmare... His fingers curled instinctively, searching for something solid, something real..
Before the cold could settle deeper, Lyney’s arms wrapped around him with a quiet strength warmth flooding over Aether’s shoulders wrapping him like a soft, protective cloak
The familiar scent of Lyney’s skin, a subtle blend of musk and something comforting, filled Aether’s senses and grounded him
Lyney’s fingers traced slow, soothing circles along Aether’s back, each touch deliberate and tender, as if silently saying —You are safe here— His chest pressed gently against Aether’s back, their breaths mingling in the quiet room
“What’s wrong, mon chéri ?” Lyney’s voice was a soft rumble, warm and steady ,his lips barely brushing Aether’s ear as he spoke
Aether leaned into the touch, letting the heat from Lyney’s body seep through his own chilled skin
His voice was fragile but raw as he began to unburden the weight of his nightmare..
“I was somewhere… but it felt so empty… Everything was grey and cold .. like the world forgot I existed ….I was wandering alone and no one was there at all ..No one saw me .. I felt… lost and scared.. Like I’d never find a place to belong..”
Lyney shifted slightly, his hands tightening just enough to pull Aether closer, his palm now resting protectively over Aether’s heart, feeling the rapid beat beneath his fingers. A gentle kiss brushed the nape of Aether’s neck soft , warm and grounding.
“That’s not real,” Lyney whispered , voice thick with emotion “You belong here with me, with us Your place is not in that silence, but right here where you are held”
Aether turned slowly, searching Lyney’s eyes deep pools of understanding and fierce tenderness..
Lyney’s hand cradled Aether’s cheek, thumb brushing lightly over his skin, lingering just enough to send a calming warmth through him
“But… if one day,” Aether’s voice faltered “if that changes? If somehow I lose this?”
Lyney’s gaze never wavered , cupping Aether’s face with both hands, fingers gently framing his jawline, thumb wiping away a lone tear escaping down Aether’s cheek
His touch was reverent, like holding something precious and fragile
“If that day ever comes…” Lyney, collecting all his strength, promised in a voice steady but soft “…we’ll build our own family ..You and me .. I will be your home”
Aether’s breath caught, his eyes widening as if he was still in a dream ,He asked “You’d want that? A family… with me?” His fingers twined nervously with Lyney’s
Lyney nodded, a shy , genuine smile curling his lips that looked as soft and warm as sunlight breaking through darkness “As long as you’re okay with me..I’m full of flaws , sometimes I don’t understand my feelings, and emotions scare me more than I let on .. but.. “
He leaned in, pressing his forehead gently against Aether’s, breath mingling in the close space between them
Lyney spoke softly “.. if you promise to hold me when I’m lost .. then I promise I will never let you be alone”
Aether’s eyes searched Lyney’s, voice barely above a whisper “Will you hold me when I’m lost too…?”
Lyney giggled softly, the sound warm and light like a breeze stirring the leaves “I’m doing it right now, mon amour” he murmured, lips curving into a tender smile “And yes, I will Always.”
Aether’s hands found Lyney’s chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart beneath his palm solid, unwavering
He closed his eyes, leaning fully into the embrace, into the warmth, into the vow that wrapped around them like a quiet fire against the lingering cold of the nightmare
After a long moment, Aether lifted his head slightly, eyes shimmering with quiet strength Pressing his lips gently against Lyney’s, he left him blushing in surprise as he looked up at him
“I promise you..” aether said, voice steady and sure “I will hold you too , Through every lost moment, every fear, every shadow I won’t ever leave you alone...”
Lyney smiled gently and nodded, pressing his forehead against Aether’s and nuzzling softly…
They stayed like that, pressed close , skin against skin, breath against breath
Two hearts pledging to hold one another through every shadow and every light..
And in that perfect, fragile moment, the world outside faded away, leaving only the fierce, tender glow of a love that was whole, safe, and utterly theirs.
