Chapter Text
Kris slowly opened their eyes. The sun shone into them and their brother's room, blinding their eyes, which were still adjusting. They stared at the alarm clock sitting on their brother's alarm clock.
7:05AM
That was early for them, but they lacked the urge to go back to bed. Kris made their way downstairs, to find their mother sitting on her chair, dubbed "Chairiel" by the family.
"Ah! Good morning Kris! You're up early for a change. Sleep well?"
Kris would shrug, making an "I dunno" sound.
❤️"Had a dream."/ Stay silent.
"I see. Are you hungry?"
❤️"No." / "Yes."
"Alright, well, if you change your mind, you can always tell me." Toriel would smile at her youngest child.
Kris turned on the TV. Hometown didn't have too many stations, but enough to suffice. Most channels just showed news at this hour. The TV turned on to the weather.
Toriel glanced towards the TV. "Looks like the weather will be nice for Asriel coming next week." She'd turn around, before turning back at Kris. "By the way, we're going to need to go to school slightly earlier this morning, is that alright?"
Kris would nod slowly.
Soon enough, Kris and Toriel would arrive at the School.
"Have a good day, my child." Toriel would lean down to hug Kris, giving them a soft kiss on the cheek, before turning around and walking into the building. Kris would wait a few seconds, not wanting to seem like they were following their mother. They entered Ms. Alphys' classroom, taking their place by the desk in the middle. The school bell would ring.
Alphys would clear her throat. "Ah- um, Good morning class!"
The class would utter a chorus of "Good morning Ms. Alphys." about as well as a class of teenagers could do, first thing in the morning. Kris would stay silent.
"Well, today is the day you start on the group project that I was talking about last afternoon. We were uh, all here, last afternoon, right?"
No one would object, so Alphys took that as a sign to continue. "Right, everyone is here apart from Susie, so I suppose groups of two will be enough. Well, I guess you can go find your partner!"
Kris' eyes darted around the room. Jockington tried too hard to be cool, making him insufferable. Catti wouldn't even try. Monster Kid had already turned around to talk to Snowy. Berdly was... Berdly, and Temmie... well, Kris just didn't understand her. Then there was Noelle. A nice girl, who was their best friend growing up, but ever since Asriel's absence, they grew further and further apart. Kris supposed they could try and salvage it before their friendship completely fizzled away. Kris would step toward Noelle.
"Noelle?"
"Ah, Kris! Are you wanting to be partners?"
❤️ "Yes" / "I have no choice."
"Well, that's fine by me!"
Berdly would clear his throat. "Noelle, I was planning on working with you. We've always been study partners-"
"Sorry, Berdly, but can I be with Kris just this once?"
"Fine. I'll go with... Temmie." Berdly would walk away in shame.
Noelle would turn to face Kris.
"You know, we've not talked in-"
"Alright, so-" Alphys shouted, turning to face the chalkboard. She would prepare to write, only to find that there was no chalk where it usually laid. "Oh- right, um... would two nice volunteers go and get some chalk from the supply closet?"
Noelle would raise her hand, lifting Kris' hand up with the other. Kris would look at her, slightly annoyed.
"Ah! Noelle and Kris. There should be chalk uhm, somewhere in there. It was quite messy the last time I checked."
Noelle would stand up, Kris following. They would saunter behind her, opening the door to the classroom and walking out into the corridors.
The sound of water running would become audible, only to see a purple monster drinking from the water fountain.
Confront Susie / ❤️ Ignore
But despite their effort to ignore them, Susie released her hand from the fountain, turning around to face the two.
"Where are you two off to?" She'd ask in an inquisitive, but threatening way.
"Oh, we were just getting chalk for the teacher." Noelle would try to defuse the conversation.
"Chalk? Count me in. I could go for a snack." Susie would smirk.
"It's not food." / ❤️ "Why are you eating chalk?"
"Cause, I can eat what I want." She'd look at Noelle. "Does Kris even eat? Their mouth almost never opens." Susie would chuckle to herself.
"Hey, be nice to Kris!" Noellw ould retalliate. Susie would look at her sternly, making her back down slightly.
"I'm just here for the chalk, then I'm out."
The three made their way to the two silver double doors.
"In here, right?" Noelle would ask. She'd tug on the door, but it was kinda stiff.
"Susie, can you help? You're uh, stronger than me."
"Anything for some chalk..." Susie would yank at the door. It would creak, until it would quickly swing open. Kris would dodge getting hit in the face by the door.
Inside the door was dark, but unnaturally dark. The light in the halls should have at least lit up the entrance to the closet.
"Hey... it shouldn't be that dark... Let's go find the light switch."
"I don't think I've ever seen a darker room." Noelle would add.
The three would enter the closet, following a trail of papers. For some reason, it felt as if they were walking on a tight rope, and one wrong move could make you plummet to your end. They walked for way too long than what should be possible in a school closet.
"Holy crap, what school needs a supply closet this big?" Susie would show genuine curiosity, something she usually didn't show.
"Susie, Kris? What if the light switch is at the door?" Noelle would use some common sense.
"Good idea... smartass."
The three would make their way back, only for the door to slam shut, seemingly with no input, bringing them to jump.
"What the hell?" Susie would run to the door, pounding it with her fists.
The floor would suddenly shake as if an earthquake was taking place. Noelle would let out a shriek.
She teetered on what should have been a flat floor. "H-help!"
Susie and Kris would run over, grabbing one hand each, before the rumbling stopped, and the floor just gave in, leading the three to fall down a long, long way. Susie would gasp, Noelle would scream, and Kris remained silent.
