Work Text:
Warm sunlight slanted through the large windows, flooding the room with its golden glow. It sparkled on the surface of the lake outside, and the gentle sound of water lapping against the shore was carried through the open window on the warm breeze.
Kathryn was stretched out on the couch, the golden lights glinting on the auburn strands of her hair. A book was propped open in her hand and she lazily turned the page ever few minutes.
Chakotay couldn't keep his eyes off her. She was never anything less than stunning, but moments like this were the most incredible. For years, he'd seen her professional side, only catching glimpses of this more intimate side during their dinners. He could still hardly believe he could see her like this now. He could see her like this every day for the rest of their lives.
Her hair had grown longer in the months since they'd made it home. She had tied it up in a loose bun earlier, but several locks had come free, framing her face and curling around her shoulders. Freckles were sprinkled across her nose and cheeks. Her bright blue eyes travelled across the pages.
"You're staring again."
Chakotay grinned. "Can I help it?"
Kathryn glanced up from her book and offered him an amused smile. "You already know what I look like."
Getting to his feet, he crossed to the couch and plucked the book out of her hands, setting it page-down on the low coffee table. He twisted a curl around his finger before cupping her jaw and lowering his mouth for a kiss.
"Yet I'm always amazed by how beautiful you are."
Her cheeks flushed, and she kissed him again. She let out a soft sigh. "I'm so glad we're finally here together."
"So am I. Your programme didn't do this place justice, and I never realised your family owned a cabin on the lake."
"I didn't think it was a good idea to recreate the cabin," she admitted. "Besides, it makes being here even more special."
"It's a beautiful place." He lowered his head again. "Perfect for a honeymoon."
