Work Text:
It had been a spur of the moment idea from Tom.
It wasn’t a party, there wasn’t anything to celebrate, but rather a time and place to be with others as the reports of drones and bombs flooded the news.
Alex, Tom, and James had invited their close friends that were still around, encouraging them to bring anyone they wanted with them as well. There was food and drinks, and a safe room that doubled as a shelter for when the raids hit.
Alex looked around the room at couples sitting together or dancing slowly to some music James had put on. Not for the first time that day, his chest felt tight as he watched all the couples together.
He hadn’t heard from Yassen in several days. In ordinary circumstances, this wouldn’t have been too worrying. Their respective jobs made for long stretches of time with no contact. But these weren’t ordinary circumstances, and Alex would do anything to know that Yassen was at least still alive.
“I’ve got some stronger stuff stashed in the back, if you want some.”
Alex looked over as Tom sat down next to him, nursing his own drink. He looked at Alex with a knowing look.
“How’d you get…never mind, I don’t want to know.” Alex started to ask before shaking his head
“You’re right, you don’t.” James said, plopping down next to them.
They sat in silence, allowing themselves just to be there for each other. Alex was grateful for the silent companionship. He didn’t want to talk about everything he was feeling, had been feeling since the world had broken out into war. But knowing he wasn’t alone in it helped.
A small chirp from the security system monitor across the room, signaled the front door had been opened.
“Probably Laura. She said she would be a bit late.” James said, patting Alex on the back as he got up.
Alex leaned his back and closed his eyes, sending a small prayer to the Universe to bring Yassen back to him.
“Alex.”
Alex’s eyes snapped open as he brought his head back up. His breath catching when he saw Yassen standing there in front of him. He got to his feet, closing the distance between them as James and Tom walked away to give them some privacy.
“Bloody hell, Yassen.” Alex said as he pulled Yassen close to him, resting his forehead against Yassen’s.
Alex felt Yassen’s lips on his as Yassen kissed him in response. All the worries and fears disappeared from Alex’s mind as he focused on the fact that Yassen was still alive, still here with him. When they pulled apart, Alex looked Yassen in eye.
“I’m going with you next time. We work together. If the world is going to end, it’s going to end with us together.”
Yassen pulled Alex into his arms, nuzzling his head against Alex’s neck, speaking into his ear as emergency sirens started ring through the air.
“Какое прекрасное укрытие ты сделал, чтобы задержать наше расставание.”
