Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

Quinn

Disappointing is an adjective used to describe someone or something that fails to fulfil someone’s hopes or expectations. In other words, Quinn Fabray’s whole sophomore year.

After getting kicked out of home for getting pregnant a disappointment was all she felt like, so what other option would she have other than to turn to the first disappointment of the Fabray family, her older brother Art? He took her in and supported her during those awful nine months, and still gave her a roof to sleep under even after the whole pregnancy situation had passed. But after spending her whole summer feeling sorry for herself she was determined to get her life back together as soon as possible.

Number one on the list was to get back into the Cheerios, she had been training for the tryouts for three months and was ready to get that captain title back.

Quinn walked into the kitchen, where her brother Art was cooking a ridiculous amount of scrambled eggs.

“Made you some toast.” He said as she walked past him, sitting down on the kitchen table and starting to eat her food.

After she finished her toast, and Art finished his 6 scrambled eggs in a surprisingly short amount of time, they took off to school in his car.

Art turned the radio on, some cheesy girly love song started playing.

”You could sing this in that glee club you’re in.” He said as he quickly glanced at her, smiling.

”Uh…I don’t know, I think I’m gonna quit once I get back into the Cheerios, I need to focus if I want to be captain again.”

”Bullshit, you love it there.”

“I don’t love it, it’s alright I guess. They’re weird.”

”They’re also your only friends, so.”

”I have Santana and Brittany.”

”Proving my point.”

Quinn huffed and looked out the window. She knew he was right, that her only friends were them, and that they had been the only ones who were with her during the mess that had been sophomore year, besides her brother. And she had to admit, in the end she had actually grown quite fond of all those geeks, some more than others.

They finally arrived at school. Quinn noticed the stares, people who were probably wondering who her brother was, which, to be fair, wasn’t an unusual doubt for them to have, since he had studied at Mark Rebellato Tennis Academy since he was like 12, it’s not like he had been around enough for them to know about him.

She waved goodbye at her brother before heading off towards the building. She got to her locker and opened it, putting some of her books inside of it. Then, she looked to her right, standing a few lockers away was no other than Rachel Berry. Quinn had hoped to encounter a few other people before she had to cross paths with Rachel, but apparently the world was just determined to constantly disappoint her during this lifetime.

Lost in her own thoughts, Quinn wasn’t quick enough to retrieve her stare before Rachel could notice, and mentally cursed herself when she saw the girl approach.

”Hey Quinn.” Rachel said with a careful tone.

Quinn wanted to ignore her but her body acted faster, turning to her.

”Hi.” She said in a soft, dry tone.

”How was your summer?”

”Just summer, not much.” Quinn was trying to reduce the conversation to the shortest possible, but you never knew with this girl.

”Well, I spent my summer counseling at a summer camp, and practicing some songs for the Glee Club, aren’t you excited? I am, I posted some of the songs on my blog, but you don’t have to check them out, unless you want to, of course, I would never stop anyone from witnessing a portion of my talent if that’s what they wish to do.”

”That’s great, Rachel.” Quinn said in the usual dry tone she used with her as she started to walk away. She really wanted to try and be less mean to people this year, but with Rachel it was basically impossible for her to do so, she just got under her skin so easily.

”Wait! I have something for you.” Rachel quickly catches up to her, standing before Quinn before she could speed up her steps.

”It’s just a list of songs, they’re all in your vocal range and I thought you might like them, you know, for Glee Club, of course.” She said a bit shyly as she handed Quinn a piece of pink paper with a title that read Songs for Quinn and about 50 songs written on it between the two sides.

”Wow, uhm…thanks, Rachel.” Quinn said as she inspected the paper. The songs were written in basically perfect handwriting and there was a small From Rachel at the end with a golden star sticker of the same size next to it.

Rachel seemed to light up a bit at her words. “Well, that was it, see ya!” She said giddy as she walked away.

Quinn watched walk away towards Finn, hugging him and saying something to him that she couldn’t quite hear from her spot.

Right, Finn. She thought. Rachel stole Finn from her, she had almost forgotten. Well, according to Art, Quinn had lost him all by herself just by cheating on him, with his best friend, and then lying to him, but she knew Rachel hadn’t helped her situation.

Quinn folded the list of songs and put it inside one of her books before heading to class.

The class couldn’t even be considered an actual lesson, it was just an introduction to the subject, so Quinn started to zone out.

She thought of how she felt when Rachel gave her the list of songs, and how she hadn’t even remembered the whole Finn situation until she had seen her hug him, which was specially interesting considering it had been eating her up the whole summer, and look, there’s probably no one in this world that loves Quinn more than her brother, but even he was tired of hearing that story every other week. She suddenly felt so silly, she had spent the whole summer obsessing over this girl and she didn’t even manage to remember the grudge she had been holding for three months on her first interaction with her.

She could’ve facepalmed herself right there and then.

The class went on painfully slow, and so did the day. Hours and hours of the same shit. And when she wasn’t in class she was actively avoiding Rachel, forcing herself to hold that grudge, at least until she was forced to see her at the Glee Club meeting.

Quinn would never lie to herself and say that it didn't feel good to see all those dorks that she could call her friends, not to their faces tho. She quickly sat near Santana, who was sneakily laughing with Brittany.

The meeting went on, everyone talked about their summers and discussed topics and songs for the week. Quinn didn’t contribute too much, it felt useless considering she was planning on leaving, although she was starting to have her doubts.

At the end, she spotted Rachel walking towards her out of the corner of her eye, and couldn’t help but to let out a soft sigh through her lips, and reluctantly turned to her.

”Quinn! Did you take a look at the songs?” She said, smiling at her like nothing had happened between them. Quinn felt her whole body go hot, she couldn’t believe she thought that little of the damage she had done to her, to Finn and her.

”No.” Quinn said quickly.

”Oh!” She sounded a bit disappointed.”Well, check them out and you can tell me what you think tomorrow.”

At this point the last person in the room besides them had just left.

”I think I can select my own songs, thank you.”

When Quinn left the room she could feel how her face was flushing. The audacity of this girl to approach her like she was innocent, like she hadn’t stolen her whole boyfriend the year prior. Her face was red after that interaction, she genuinely couldn’t believe it.

The classes finally reached their end, and after a quick talk with coach Sylvester, she agreed to meet with her the next day, and Quinn was positive she would let her join the Cheerios again.

At the parking lot, her brother waited for her. When they got to the car, Quinn noticed he looked serious, angry serious, he had a face that she had only seen on him after fights with their dad.

She didn't dare to ask.
