Chapter Text
It was unbelievable. Awaiting his name anxiously, he stared at the back of some random kid’s head. The red gown on his head was barely visible over the wild, long blue stringy hair. Weird. If you were gonna have blue hair, you should really have it short, like his own. Wait, why did he care about this kid’s hair? Ugh. This was rough. He didn’t know why he was so nervous about this whole thing. It’s not like he failed senior year. It was just… anticipation, maybe? This was it. Everything these last thirteen years have culminated for, and yet, he was a little sad. Why was this the end? He’d probably never see his friends again. Hell, maybe he and Sumia might even break up over the long distances as they chose different colleges. Catching himself breathing quickly, he slowed down. This wasn’t like him.
He desperately tried to think of any other way. He’d see everyone at high school reunions. He’d still be in touch with Lissa, probably. Emmeryn too. It wouldn’t be so bad. He’d make new friends in college. Also, being head over heels for Sumia might make him very resistant to breaking up with Sumia. Oh, he’d still see Frederick, probably. Emmeryn took care of Chrom and Lissa from a young age, but Frederick, a family friend, had gotten guardianship as well as control over the large sum of money that their parents owned until Emmeryn was of age. Once she turned eighteen, he still paid attention to the siblings and is around quite often. While he was deep in thought, he felt a nudge on his arm. Chrom whipped his head around.
“Dude, they said your name.” Vaike said, his blonde hair peeking out from under his cap.
“They did?! Blast!” Chrom scrambled to his feet, going down the line of empty chairs and stepping onto the platform. He grabbed his diploma, shaking the principal’s hands nervously, and glancing off the stage. All his nerves immediately cleared, as he first saw Sumia, in her chair holding her diploma with a big grin on her face. Then looking past her to the left into the bleachers, he saw Lissa, cheering and clapping. Emmeryn with her gentle smile, her eyes shining with pride. And Frederick next to them, giving him a nod. He made it.

Next thing he knew, he was already at the train station. Two months of fun and anticipation for college had already passed. All of his friends' faces who he so cherished had already left. Sumia and him spent the last few days together, until she flew off to college. It was just Chrom left, and he looked back, seeing Lissa, Emmeryn and Frederick. They had given him a tearful goodbye. His stomach was churning with nerves, but also a good sense of duty. He hoped his parents were proud, wherever they were. He had done it.
