Chapter Text
Sprout and Cosmo were in the kitchen making breakfast for the toons per usual. Sprout was in charge of eggs and bacon while Cosmo was making pancakes, but he noticed that Sprout was spacing out which is rare as toons do not really experience drama. Toons wake up, eat, hangout, and during workdays hang out with the children that visit Gardenview.
Cosmo being concerned if Sprout has been feeling stressed about responsibilities, he has a main toon asks, “Hey Seedly" Cosmo leans against a counter giving Sprout a raised brow. "What are you thinking about?”
Sprout flips the bacon he was working on before he looks at Cosmo. “Really? Seedly? I thought I told you not to call me that…”
“Heh, but really Sprout what’s on your mind?” Cosmo said giving Sprout a smirk.
Sprout’s face reddens a bit as he looks to the side. Sprout was hesitating. “It’s just Looey’s birthday is coming up and I feel like a need to do something for him.”
Sprout had always had a soft spot for Looey. When Looey first arrived at Gardenview with Connie, he was awkward but in an adorable way. Back then, Blot and Yatta weren’t created yet, so Sprout had taken it upon himself to make Looey feel welcomed. Sprout knows what it’s like being a new toon even though he arrived with Cosmo.
On Looey’s first day, Sprout invited him to help restock plushies in the souvenir shop. As they worked, their conversation flowed easily, and Sprout felt like they’d been friends for a long time. Sprout would chuckle to Looey’s unintentional puns. Ever since then Sprout has found himself wanting to spend more time with Looey.
Now Looey’s birthday is coming and it was giving Sprout some anxiety. He wants to show Looey how grateful he is to have him as his friend but has no idea on what gift can capture that.
Cosmo breaks Sprout’s thoughts by saying, “Why not bake him something? I can help if you want.”
Sprout gave Cosmo a grateful smile but shake his head side to side. “Thank you, Cos, but I do that for everyone. I feel like I should do something a little more...personal.”
“Oh? I guess that makes sense,” Cosmo says with his eyes squinting suspicious of Sprout, but he kept his tone casual. "Why though?"
“Well I mean I am friends with all the other toons but I feel like you and Looey are my closest friends. I can always rely on you guys. But don’t worry Cos you’re still number one.”
“Mhm sure.” Cosmo teases with a smile.
“HEY! It’s true, you’re my best friend.”
“I am not talking about that." Cosmo sighed at his oblivious friend. "I am talking about how you see Looey as a close friend. You’re lying.”
Sprout got nervous and froze. “What…I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Sprout gives a lighthearted glare with a smile then goes back to focus on the food he is cooking.
Just as if it were on cue the circus crew enters the kitchen to pick up their plates. Yatta bounces her way to Cosmo and shows her plate waiting for pancakes. Cosmo gives her three of the fluffiest pancakes as well as extra syrup just how she requests, every single time. Sprout gives her a side of eggs and bacon. Blot got his meal but instead of syrup he got ichor. Then came Looey.
Cosmo nudged Sprout to tease him and Sprout quickly nudged back in an attempt to tell Cosmo to stop.
Looey looked at them confused and looked over at Sprout to greet him and without him noticing his tail started swaying. “Heya Sprout! What’s for breakfast today?”
Sprout giggles at the sight of Looey’s tail wagging, “Hehe, hi looey and today we’re just having eggs, bacon, and pancakes.”
“Well I’ll have some bacon with pancakes no syrup just butter please.” As Sprout goes to place the bacon on Looey’s plate Looey says, “Thank you Sprout you know how waffle I feel without breakfast.”
Sprout gives Looey a soft chuckle, “Anytime Looey.” Sprout’s eyes soften lingering for a bit longer than they should have watching Looey walk away to join his friends eat breakfast.
Cosmo speaks up and mimics Sprout to tease him, “anYtIme loOEy.” Sprout whips his head to look a Cosmo with a flustered face and groans.
“It’s okay to be honest with yourself Sprout.”
“Honest about what?”
“You know what.”
“Looey is just my friend Cosmo.” Cosmo chuckles and points down to Sprout’s long leafy tail swaying back and forth. “Hmm, sure.” Sprout jumps at the sight of his tail giving him away and quickly snatches it to hold it still.
Sprout in an attempt to change the subject quickly says, “Well it looks like everyone got their breakfast let’s start cleaning…maybe we can ask Tisha for some of her supplies.”
