I hope this new friend of yours hugs you the way I did. Holding you so tight and keeping their shaky breath in, scared you'd run away like cats do.
And, maybe, I hope you'll realise they're doing it because they treasure the little moments of comfort you give them.
I hope this new friend of yours looks at you with the same tenderness that was once mine. With big eyes that try to engrave every little thing of you in their memory.
And, maybe, you'll see it, the eagerness of their gaze, eating every single detail of that moment as if it was their last meal.
I hope this new friend smiles at your silly jokes like I used to, without really catching half of them because they were too focused on how your lips moved.
And, maybe, you'll look at them just to realise they didn't laugh at your joke, but they appreciated it nonetheless.
I hope this new friend of yours tucks your hair behind your ear like I used to. A delicate touch, just enough to brush slightly againist your head.
And, maybe, in that moment, you'll mistake them for me, looking up at them, waiting for my gaze to meet yours and for my lips to spread into a gentle smile.
And when you'll realise that's not me, I hope it'll ruin you just a little bit.
Then, maybe, I'll find happiness.
