Chapter Text

The smell of paint and other art supplies hits Scraps’ nose as she steps into the art workshop located in Garden View. Canvases were stacked on top of a desk in the corner and art supplies lined the cabinets. Delilah always made sure everything was well stocked, Well, before she just disappeared one day along with everyone else.

Scraps often came here seeking comfort, something she needed now more than ever. A couple days ago the museum was shut down abruptly. No one knew for sure why the toons had suddenly been left to fend for themselves and a substance called ichor had leaked everywhere, but there were many rumors that it had something to do with the star of the show himself, Dandy.

An annoyed voice suddenly startles Scraps from her thoughts.

“Do you mind? I’m trying to paint here”

Brusha, she came here just as often if not more than Scraps and she was also usually quite grumpy for no apparent reason.

“Oh, hey, didn’t know you were in here…

Anyways, I was just going to grab something really quickly”

A lie, Scraps actually came in here to draw but with Brusha here, even the art studio would become stress inducing. Maybe just going to her shared room with her brother was a better idea. She grabs a pencil and some paper and lifts her hand in something resembling a wave of goodbye to the other toon while pushing the door to the exit open with her empty hand.

Walking through the empty halls that were once filled with laughter and kids being kids was but another reminder of how different things are now.

“Scraps!”

As soon as she enters the room Goob immediately greets her happily and runs to give her a hug.

“Hey, what’s up?

You doing alright?”

Goob finally releases her from his grasp and nods.

Maybe it was a good thing Brusha had been painting because Vee’s Gameshow starts in a little bit and Scraps was one of the contestants tonight. It’s probably better to just get ready early than be rushing at the end because she stopped to make some art.

Scraps stands backstage behind the curtains peaking out at Vee preparing to start the show. They were only doing this because everyone hoped it would bring some sort of normalcy to their new lives.

“Alright contestants, head onto the stage!”

Vee announces and gestures to where they should be going.

On the platform there were 3 stands next to each other with buzzers on them for the players. There was also one facing the rest of them for the host.

One of the lights overhead kept flickering. Usually that would have been fixed by an employee, but they were gone and the toons had no clue on how to replace it. Best not to think about it.

Vee gets up to her podium and all eyes in the small audience shift to her.

“Greetings Ladies and Gentlemen, you know what time it is!

Today competing for… uh… This Box of Chocolates! We have Brightney, Scraps, and… Shrimpo”

A couple toons like Goob and Toodles clap loudly from their seats.

“Alright! Onto our first question!

How many elements are on the periodic table currently?”

There was no doubt that this question was catered towards Brightney. Scraps was no idiot, she knew that the TV didn’t always appreciate how she managed to guess the right answer every single time. The paper craft moves her hand to press the button, but is a second too late. She turns to see Shrimpo aggressively punching the Alarm, didn’t think he wanted to participate in this that much.

“I HATE THE PERIODIC TABLE!”

Vee shoots him an annoyed glare and sighs.

“Loud Incorrect Buzzer Noise

Sorry Shrimpo, that isn’t the response I’m looking for.

Scraps, you hit the button second, I suppose I have to allow you to steal the question.”

None of the toons had ever gone to school or anything, if they wanted to know something they had to find a book about it and that wasn’t something most of them did a lot. Scraps takes a second to think before replying.

“Hmm… 188?”

The host doesn’t look surprised she got it right and unenthusiastically stands there as a green checkmark lights up on her screen. That Box of Chocolates would be hers in no time, just like all the prizes she had competed for in previous games.
