If nova had a dime for every time she blushed in her life, she would have been richer now than she ever had in her life. Damn Vampires.
It wasn’t even her fault! It was because of that stupidly cute vampire who kept calling her nicknames and has that- that- smile! It was because of-
“Victor!” She heard Ray call out. She turned round so fast she nearly tripped.
“What did you need Ray?” She asked. He looked at her and rolled his eyes
“Didn’t realize you and Mr Prince of Darkness were so couple-y now that you started responding to each others names.” Ray said with a snort. Nova slugged his arm, just as Victor came jogging over.
“What did you need Ray?” He asked while he watched Ray pick up the box of dead animals they had cleared out of the high cabins. Ray just rolled his eyes and lifted the box higher.
“I was going to ask you what that was about.” Her said gesturing to Vargas and Vera lifting small wind chimes onto every vampire cabin deck. Ray just shrugged and continued,
“But it’s Vera and Vargas so I figured that not questioning is probably better.” That made Victor laugh and shake his head
“Yeah wind chimes. It’s a vampire thing.” Victor responded. Then he looked over at nova who was silently watching him. His smile widened slightly
“Hey sunshine.” He said nodding at her. She smiled back trying to ignore the slight flush in her cheeks. Ray groaned and started walking away.
“Get a room you two!” He called over his shoulder. Victor and Nova looked at each other. And then promptly began to laugh.
“Come on,” Victor said standing up and dusting the dirt off his pants.
“We’ve been working on cleaning up this place all day. Let’s go for a walk.” Victor said holding out a hand to help her up, ever the gentleman.
“A walk?” Nova said, taking his hand and standing up.
“Yeah sure.” Victor said with a shrug.
“Why not?” Nova just laughed.
“Lead the way.”

The sun hung pretty low in the sky as they walked through the woods.
“So you’re telling me,” Nova said mid-laugh.
“That you ran into the orchard, found a cat, and then hid it in your bedroom for two weeks?” Victor placed a hand to his chest in mock offense
“I will have you know that he would be very offended on being called simply a “cat”. Prince is very sophisticated.” He said in a joking tone. Nova just laughed harder
“You have a cat named Prince?” She asked wiping her eyes
“How did he end up with a name like that?” She giggled out. Victor just sighed and looked off into the distance.
“That would be Vera’s fault,” as they reached the top of the hill that spread out into the field below. Victor plopped down in front of at tree and began to play with the leaves.
“She and Vargas found out my official title and decided that it fit my cat much better than me.” He laughed as nova sat down next to him watching as he used his powers to swirl the leaves in the air.
“Wait,” she said looking up into his eyes, shocked. “Your official title? You mean your official title is Prince?” She asked looking into his eyes.
He looked up from the leaves as though caught in a lie.
“Uhh I did say that didn’t I?” He rubbed the back of his neck.
“Would you believe me if I said no?” He asked half heartedly. She gave him a look. He sighed and dropped his hand
“Yeah technically it is,” he said leaning back on his elbows.
“Before our young leaders become the elder or eldress they are technically called prince or princess. No one ever really uses it though, except for at formal introductions and events.” He laughed.
“Vera thought it was hilarious. Said my cat acted like even more of a prince than me.” He gestured to himself lazily as if that explained it.
Nova giggled and started to play with his fingers, running hers over the silver rings that he wore.
“Don’t worry princey, I wont tell anyone.” she said with a wink. She saw Victors cheeks turn pink and he groaned as she watched him fall backwards to lay on the grass.
“I’m never gonna live this down am I?” He asked his words muffled through his hands covering his face.
She laughed and propped herself on her elbow next to him.
“Nope.” She said popping the “P”.
“But if it makes you feel any better, my fathers soldier have to call me “my lady”.” She said while barely containing her laughter
“Oh that’s makes it so much better.” He mumbled sarcastically. She couldn’t contain her laugh that time.
“Okay okay, miss bright calm down,” he muttered while sitting up.
Nova giggled softly at his slightly messed up hair and his lopsided grin. In the final rays of sunlight he looked so adorable and slightly embarrassed that she couldn’t help but be endeared. Maybe that was why she felt a new wave of confidence.
“So,” she began lifting herself up on to one hand,
“Does that mean if I married you I would be a princess?” She asked in a sort of innocently flirty way. It had the intended effect. She saw Victor's cheeks go pink.
“I mean,” he said clearing his throat,
“If you were to marry me while I was still not the Vampire elder then yes. But technically whoever the prince or princess dates is considered a prince or princess consort.” He said simply while fidgeting with his sleeve.
“So technically you would just have to be my girlfriend to be a princess. That is-“ he said starting to rush his words
“If we were dating. Like as in you had feelings for me. Not like friend feelings but like, like you actually liked me. Which you do! Er not like that. But im not trying to say I know what you feel either I-“ but Nova cut off his rambling by pulling him forward by the collar of his vest and pressing his lips to hers.
She wasn’t even sure why she did it, and for a second he didn’t move and she felt like maybe she shouldn’t have. But before she could do anything else, he leaned forward and kissed her back. She swears she almost passed out right there, her eyes fluttered closed and she lost herself in the full sensation of Victor’s arms around her and Victor’s lips against hers.
She pulled away first, eyes bright and wide and cheeks flushed. Victor looked in a similar state, although he had an added expression of shock to his face. Nova giggle at the sight of his flushed face and messed up hair.
“I do have,” Nova began, leaning forward
“More than friend feelings for you Prince Victor.” She said with a smile.
He looked back at her with so many unnamed emotions in his eyes that she could have gotten lost in them.
“Good,” he said leaning forward and brushing his nose against hers.
“Because I really have wanted to do this.” He said as he leaned forward and captured her lips again. And he was so soft and gentle that she could have cried.
When he pulled back he smiled, before pulling her to sit next to him and she leaned her head on his shoulder.
They looked at the stars for a few minutes their hearts full and minds racing.
“Does this mean you’ll be my princess?” Victor asked softly, and if she could have picked a moment to die happy, it would have been then, with Victor’s soft voice in her ear and the night sky stretched out beautifully before her.
“Of course.” She replied softly and felt her heart stutter at his relieved soft smile in return.
They stayed there a while longer with her head in his shoulder and their hands intertwined.
Maybe their people were still learning to not be enemies and maybe tomorrow they would have to face all the unknown things and challenges that this might bring.
But for now, Nova sat happily with her prince, while her heartbeat was still erratic and her lips still tingled, and stars were in her eyes, smiling, because she got to bask in the glow of her very own fairytale.
