Chapter Text
Early 2005
…
Thousands of miles from Club Penguin, just south of Polar Bear Island, was a land known as Wolfania. Inhabited mostly by wolves, it was the home of Silver Fengo.
That is, until tragedy struck.
She and her siblings were exploring the ice that lined the southern shores of Wolfania this time of year, playing and sliding around on the vast shelf that stretched out over the sea. Silver always wondered what was out there, what other lands were on the other side of the ocean, but nowadays wolves weren’t too keen on traveling long distances unless it was absolutely necessary.
She’d heard countless stories from her parents and other wolves that founded Wolfania. Stories of survival, tragedy, natural disasters, famine, death, and migration. Old traditions that were originally meant to keep the original wolf clans strong, but were harmful to them in the long run, became forbidden when the species united to find a new home, which they had to do more than once. No one was interested in seeing what was left of where they came from, if there was still anything left at all, much less crossing an entire ocean to find who knows what.
Alas, Silver’s curiosity never faltered. While her siblings stayed closer to the mainland, she ran towards the edge of the ice shelf. She gazed out at the horizon, noting the dark grey clouds in the sky, before looking down at the water and dipping a paw in it. It was much too cold to swim in, she’d have to wait until the weather got warmer and the ice broke up.
A couple hours went by as the young wolves hung out on the ice, the dark clouds gradually covering the sky above them. They could smell a storm brewing and knew it was time to go inside.
“Hey, Silver!” Lar, Silver’s older brother, called out to her, “We should leave, there’s going to be a storm soon!” Her ears swiveled in his direction and she bounded towards where he and everyone else was.
She didn’t get very far.
Lightning flashed in front of her, causing her to yelp and jump back. She slipped and fell flat on the ice, becoming dazed from the impact. Unbeknownst to her, a crack began forming in the ice where the lightning struck and started separating her from her siblings. A few of them ran towards her, hoping to grab her before she got too far away, but they were stopped by a second flash of lightning.
The intensity of the storm quickly increased and the newly formed ice floe completely disconnected from the rest of the ice on the mainland, the wind and waves bringing it out into the ocean. Silver realized what was happening and panicked, barking at her siblings who were freaking out just as much as she was. She tried to stand, but the water splashing on the ice made it too slippery and the wind made her unstable. Standing wouldn’t even have done her any good, as the distance between her and the mainland had grown too large for her to jump unless she wanted to risk hypothermia and drowning.
Silver saw one of her siblings run away from the rest of the group, most likely to get help, while she continued to float away. The storm only got worse as she was pelted with sleet and the waves around her grew in size, crashing onto the ice floe and soaking her to the bone. She curled up, shut her eyes tightly, and covered her ears in a feeble attempt to protect herself from the thunder, lightning, and the copious amount of water all around her that made her shiver violently. Not knowing what else to do, she prayed to Lupus and begged him to just end this torture regardless of what fate he decided for her.
She wasn’t sure how much time had passed when an especially large wave completely engulfed the ice floe. She was almost swept off of it, but she managed to dig her claws into the ice and remain anchored until the wave had passed. Coughing and spluttering, she shook some of the water out of her fur and noticed that everything was suddenly a lot quieter. The storm had finally stopped and all she could hear were the sounds of the ocean and a cold winter breeze. She opened her eyes and blinked a few times, trying to get rid of the blurriness in her vision from briefly being underwater, before she looked around and had a horrifying realization.
She was in the middle of the ocean with no land in sight.
