Dormitabis

Summary:

The immortal witch looks at her immortal colleague with pity, but they are not the same.

Notes:

Sorry, I really like this couple and my fingers were itching not to write about them.

Work Text:

Immortality is a punishment for those who suffer it, a cross made of weariness and despair.

C.C. is used to being invisible to the world. A mere spectator.

The witch is tired of mundane human conflicts arising from trivial matters.

The war in which Charles plans to be the victor is as empty as any other. Marianne yearns for the same war.

Even emptier.

V.V. is different. And yet, in a way, like her. He is younger and therefore just beginning his journey of complete solitude.

The years pass. He falls in love with a woman who never reciprocates his feelings. V.V. is a resentful man, increasingly frustrated.

C.C. feels sorry for V.V.

She knows what it means: that he will never have what others have.

He is an orphan. He has no lover or friends. The only thing that keeps him going is the incredible feat of lying to his brother and enduring the bonds of immortality.

V.V. murders Marianne in a fit of jealousy.

C.C. blames the prince for letting his emotions get the better of him.

C.C. leaves, but she returns years later.

As the betrayal and senseless battles continue, she realizes nothing has changed.

C.C. finds a loyal and faithful companion. He belongs to her.

Something V.V. never had, and never will.

She watches him die, facing his destiny.

It's a shame he couldn't have a companion.

In the end, they are both eternal monsters.

That is, until V.V. loses his immortality, a fatal wound that gnaws at his very core.

Charles betrays him.

V.V. dies defenseless.

C.C. will be by his side in his final moments. Of course.

C.C. caresses the prince's face and brushes back a lock of his beautiful blond hair. Victor looks like a bloodied angel.

She believes it's the only humane and altruistic act for someone buried alive.
