Work Text:
Enid covered in blood. It was worse and more beautiful than she could have ever imagined. However it was one thing to see her blood-soaked after she jumped in to fight the Hyde and it was another to think she was actually dead. The fear only lasted for less than a minute, apparently a prank. Enid thought it was very funny, but Wednesday almost had a heart attack.
She could barely look at Enid without seeing her covered in blood or screaming how it was all her fault that she's dead. Normally being unable to look at the colorful werewolf would have been mercy on her eyeballs but Wednesday still found herself looking. Impossible not to really. "This is really eating you on the inside isn't it?"
Wednesday didn't blink as she glanced over at Agnes who as per usual appeared suddenly. "That would be preferable. If you are planning to prank me then be prepared for the loss of a limb or life." Agnes grinned at the threat. God was it annoying to have a fan club instead of being feared like she should always be.
"No, I like keeping my limbs and all my insides where they are. Being able to go invisible really helps there. But, but, but! This is not about me, it's about you and that puppy you call a roommate." Wednesday's eye twitched at the mocking nickname Agnes used. She didn't like it one bit. Enid was far from a helpless puppy. "I'm starting to think I should have kidnapped the two of you and tied you up instead of the pack guy with the nice face."
"You assume you'd be able to kidnap me in the first place. I would also advise you to stop antagonizing Enid. Despite her looks she has her ferocious side." She paused, then looked at Agnes up and down. "On second thought keep provoking her."
"Ouch. I'm trying to help you out and you'd sink your dog on me? Again, I expect nothing less!" From how she acted Wednesday suspected that Agnes really enjoyed getting under Enid's skin. It was like a hobby, like Wednesday enjoyed solving a good murder mystery.
"Wends, I have a great- why is she always in our room lately?!" Enid's cheerfulness was replaced by frustration so quickly Wednesday almost missed her smile when she came in.
"I'm useful, unlike some people. I do have some other places to be right now though. Wednesday, call if you need me." Agnes could have vanished as she walked but she didn't, she walked right next to Enid and grinned at her, "Pup."
"Psycho." Enid growled and slammed the door in her face. Locked it too, for good measure because she didn't trust Agnes one bit. "I have never met someone who has so little respect for other people's privacy. Why was she in here anyway?"
"I don't know, she seemed to want to annoy me." Wednesday turned to her novel, carefully reading through it for what must be a hundredth time. She really couldn't understand why publishers didn't want it. It was a masterpiece, her masterpiece.
"That's my job." Enid walked up behind her and let her hands hover above Wednesday's shoulders. It wasn't touching, she respected Wednesday's need for space. "Pulled any pranks today? There's still time." Wednesday turned to her slowly, her face completely unamused. "Are you... are you still mad at me for earlier? Aren't you all about exciting murders?"
Wednesday slammed the printed copy of her novel against her desk. It started Enid as well as Thing, who thought it would be better to leave for now. This didn't look like a fight he should be a part of.
"Then you misjudge me, Enid. Murder is fascinating, yes, less so when it's the people... in close vicinity of me. Unless I am the one who committed said murder, which I will heavily consider if you ever pull anything like that ever again." She was careful not to touch Enid when she passed by her. The last thing she wanted was another vision of the werewolf's death.
"I was trying to make you laugh. It was supposed to be funny!"
"Funny?!" Even the slightest raise in Wednesday's voice should be interpreted as yelling, which Enid did. "What could possibly make you think that I would find your death funny or amusing in any way?!" Enid yelped and raised her hands in surrender in front of her as Wednesday stomped her way in front of her. She has never seen her roommate so angry.
"I... I'm sorry, I'm sorry okay? I didn't realize you care that much. I-" For a moment Enid thought Wednesday might touch her but the seer stopped her hand inches away from her cheek. Then she did the same with her other hand, hovering inches away.
"Enid I will only say this once and if you tell a single soul, living or dead, I will kill you myself. But worry not, for I would make it a most beautiful death." The air between them felt oddly charged from Wednesday's words. Enid blinked at her, the look of a confused puppy written all over her features.
"What is happening right now?" Her wolf instincts told her to run but the ever present curiosity wanted her to stay. Wednesday looked intense, and that was almost never a good thing. The raven might actually be cursed, and Enid had so far managed to be her good luck charm. But it was looking like Wednesday didn't want to be around her as much anymore.
Wednesday’s eyes locked with hers. "It is very difficult for me to show... ugh affection." She almost threw up at the word, "But Enid you have proven yourself worthy of it. And as such I would bring me distress to see you in pain, or worse dead. Haunting does not suit you so your soul would more than likely just pass on. I am not ready for that to happen, I will not let it happen under my watch. My actions might not always be clear, however everything I do is in order to protect you, my... roommate."
"OMG! Wednesday! That is the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me!" Just like that all the nervousness was replaced by a wave of affection that Enid barely held back. Wednesday cared, and what's more, she actually admitted that she cared! This was huge! "I think I'm swooning! If my romantic life wasn't complicated enough I would totally kiss you right now!"
"Try it, you will meet your end faster than expected." A ghost of a smile was enough to let Enid know that Wednesday wasn't fully serious about the threat. "I have no desire to involve myself in your romantic misadventures. Unless you need me to get rid of a body or two."
"We'll see how it goes." Enid winked and almost booped Wednesday on the nose. Once again she respected her boundaries. She didn't want to see her best friend shaking on the ground again. "And I'm sorry, again. We... we good?"
"Yes, Enid. We are." Wednesday turned around and sat back down at her desk, "If you would excuse me now, I still need to read through this book before sending it to my publisher."
"Oki-doki!" Instead of going for her bed, Enid pulled up a chair and sat close to the edge of the desk, her face in her hands and leaning in. "I still haven't had the chance to go through it all. Will you read it to me?"
Wednesday's traitorous black heart hammered in her chest, the beat echoing in her ears before she composed herself. She wasn't staring at Enid's lips, or her fangs, or her hands which she knew hid deadly claws. Enid was her best friend, her roommate, and clearly boy crazy. "Fine. But do not ask to sleep in my bed when you have nightmares."
