Chapter Text
Jonathan Sims was NOT the type to "fall in love" or even have feelings similar to those. Sure, he had had some friends he deeply cared for but nothing past that, he had girls confess to him in school but he never understood love, really. It was a word he did not know and did not care for. He'd read books and see people holding hands, kissing, flirting. But never felt a need to have that with anyone. Most of his relationships had gone on for maximum 2 weeks before he broke it off, knowing he just didn't feel that way about them. Soon enough he got used to this and just threw dating out of his mind completely.
Martin, though, had somehow broken him.
He found himself...wanting..craving Martin's touch, wanting to cuddle up with him and run his hands through his previously annoying archival assistant's fluffy hair. He didn't know when Martin went from being annoying to being possibly the hardest part of Jon's day, and not in the way previous him would've described, no in the way every time jon saw martin he just wanted to kiss him- or hug him- just be with him. He inhaled sharply hoping hid feelings would just go away, so he burrowed himself even more in work, but no matter how hard he tried his thoughts always trailed back to Martin.
He also didn't know when he had started liking Martin's poetry. He found himself stealing some of Martin's tapes just to listen to his poetry over and over, he would sit and just listen to Martin's soft words as he spoke amatour poetry. previously he had thought poetry to be mundane, boring, ect. But..not anymore. for the record, he only liked Martin's poetry. any other poet would seem to try-hard or too repetitive..something about Martin's words, how he said them..god, what was he thinking? He was completely down bad for martin, wasn't he?
He sighed, leaning back in his chair.
This was bad. It was beyond bad. He was Martin's boss. He shouldn't feel this way about a co-worker, someone working under him. But, nonetheless, he did. And he hated it. It made his carefully built walls crumble and any sense of himself disappear. He found himself being worried or even thinking if martin was okay and where he was...
Jon took off his glasses, rubbing the template of his nose trying to control himself. he was not one for confessions but he knew the longer this went on the worse and he knew that surely if he confessed to martin he would just turn Jon down and he could move on with his life, having learned this. He knew martin would say no. he would. right? I mean, he was mean, obnoxious, he wasn't even good-looking for christ's sake! he was surely the WORST person to like. Well. Besides Elias, of course.
So.
He decided to confess.
He called Martin over to his office pretending he needed something about a statement and once Martin was inside, Jon looked up at him. "Need something?" MArtin asked kindly, a nervous smile on those lips that Jon wanted nothing more than to kiss- "Uhm, yes." Jon said, clearing his throat "I need to tell you something. This is so we can work without any complications further on because i already know what your answer will be. Martin I have uh- developed..uhm..feelings for you, and i just needed to hear the rejection from you so i could move on." Martin blinked, blushed and answered "Uh-Wow- didn't expect that from you, but uhm- what- what makes you think I don't feel the same? Cuz uh..i do."
Jon froze.
He blinked and looked at Martin, confusion written all over his face "Sorry..you like me back?" he asked, as if it was something absolutely shocking that anyone could like him. Martin nodded "Yes. You say it like it's something really shocking, why is that?" he asked, a ting of worry in his face, he was honestly still a bit shocked by Jon's confession, he never expected that Jonathan "I do not go on dates" Sims would ever confess. And to him of all people.
Jon frowned "Well yes, i'm not rather..nice, or good-looking, for that matter, i'm probably the worst person you could have a crush on."
Martin sighed "Yes you're grumpy at times but you're actually not that bad looking and i feel like everything you do is to protect us. Which in my opinion speaks volumes." Jon blinked. Martin Blackwood, the prissy perfect, kind, loyal little tea-making man liked him back? Even after all he had seen, after he'd seen what Jon could do..he still...liked him?
Jon didn't know how it happened it seemed his legs were moving on his own, apparently he had gotten out of his chair and walked over to Martin and now he was flying. He was flying because Martin's lips were on his and his fingers rand through his fluffy goddamn hair. Martin kissed back of course, his hands on the nape of Jon's neck, pulling him impossibly closer.
Jon was comfortable. he was in the arms of the man he loved. he wanted to stay there forever and ever. And what really shocked him, is that now, he could. Because even though he was so mean and so grumpy all the time and he was a weird man who served the ceaseless wacher, Martin Blackwood loved him for some goddamn reason.
Jon was home. He was happy.
The next month or two went by in a blur, stuff happened, the world almost ended, and they were now living in a cottage, and Jon was currently nestled in Martin's lap, his head on Martin's shoulder, his fingers running through his curls.
He loved it.
