Work Text:
Shoto had spent the last couple minutes in a haze. His classmates had come in and updated him about everyone’s condition after the battle.
Aizawa-sensei had lost an eye and leg, Bakugo was healing okay despite his extensive injuries, Midoriya was in a coma, and the rest of their classmates had injuries that weren’t difficult to treat.
They had also told him about Midnight-sensei...
Shoto had sat in silence, remembering all the classes they had with their teacher and tried to understand how on earth the pros had let this happen.
His father had only just recently woken up and was being seen by doctors.
Everyone knew now. About his childhood. his mother, his siblings…Touya.
Touya was alive, he was Dabi now, and he was obsessed with revenge. He hated their father, mother, Fuyumi and Natsu. and most of all, Shoto himself.
When looking at it closer, it was easy to see the similarities between himself and Touya. Yet, the differences were much more profound.
Either way, he knew one thing for certain. Touya used his flames with hatred and had hurt others, his old man couldn’t do it so it had to be him.
He had to stop Touya himself.
Not even a minute after he had realized that had the door to his room and stepped his siblings and mother.
It was the first time he had seen his mother outside of her hospital room in years. They had all given him a hug, before stating that they had to go see Endeavor.
They had yet to do so however, because they were making small talk with his classmates before facing the inevitable.
Shoto hadn’t been paying attention much, stuck in his own world until he caught onto the end of his mothers sentence.
“—wish to apologize to the pro heroes Hawks and Best Jeanist for the injuries Touya gave them.”
Shoto’s heart skipped a beat.
‘Keigo? What happened to Keigo?’
He didn’t say it like that though, instead he said, “What happened to Hawks?”
Everyone turned to him, odd expressions on their faces.
“You haven’t heard?” Natsu asked, an eyebrow raised.
When he shook his head, Yaoyorozu stepped forward to explain.
“Hawks was undercover in the League of Villains for the past couple months, giving information to the heroes. During this battle he was tasked with capturing, or if necessary neutralizing, Twice. The circumstances resulted in him having to kill Twice. However, Dabi found him and they fought. Dabi won and left Hawks severely injured, his wings all but burned off and would’ve killed him if Tokoyami hadn’t stepped in and saved him. During his reveal video he said all of this as well, but distorted what actually happened to turn the public on Hawks.”
Shoto had stopped listening when she had said “severely injured”.
‘Keigo, he’s—, damn it. I had been so focused on Touya that I hadn’t even asked where he was. He’s injured, severely. No. No. No.’
He swallowed past the lump in his throat, and breathed in. He had to calm down, that’s the only way he could figure out where Keigo was.
“Can I ask where he is?”
His question got some confused looks, but thankfully Kirishima answered.
“Last I heard Hawks was making his way to the hospital with Best Jeanist.”
Shoto nodded, Shoto took a second to process that, ‘Okay, he can move, that’s good news’, and in the next second he swung his legs over the cot, pulled out his IV, and headed towards the door, practically running.
“Woah woah woah!” Natu yelled, scrambling in front of Shoto stopping him. “Where you going in such a hurry, Sho?”
Shoto didn’t answer him, one because his voice would probably sound like a scratchy record and two because he didn’t need to. What he needed to do was get downstairs.
He pushed his brother out of the way and he’d probably feel bad about that later but he didn’t care right now. He needed to get to Keigo
He slid open the room door and found quite the scene in the hallway. Bakugo struggled against some of their classmates who were holding him back while others were trying to calm him down from a distance.
When he opened the door all eyes turned to him. He didn’t pay them any mind and turned to swiftly walk towards the elevator.
“Shoto! You’re injured, you shouldn’t be walking so much.” His mother said, hand on his arm trying to hold him back gently.
He shook his head in response and continued moving.
“Where the hell do you think you're going, Icyhot!” Bakugo yelled and if Shoto had to guess, he was now trying to follow him.
He ignored him as well, ignored everyone as he heard more doors slide open, disrupted by the commotion. He broke into a run to reach the elevators before anyone could stop him.
His body ached from burns that had nowhere near healed but he would take care of that later.
He reached the elevator, pressing the button more times than necessary. Looking to the hallway he could see the others catching up. He knew that they would get to the lobby eventually, that they would find out about what Shoto had been hiding from but right now he didn’t want them to insist he go back to bed.
It was unlike him, and he was probably overreacting. Keigo could move and was released from the hospital so he clearly wasn’t in severe condition but the irrational part of Shoto couldn’t calm down. He needed to see him to make sure he was okay.
Finally after what felt like ages the elevator doors finally opened and Shoto ran in pressing the lobby bottom furiously. The doors closed just as his siblings came into his view.
Shoto slumped against the elevator doors, catching his breath. He winced while holding his side. His body finally felt how much he had strained it.
It was going to be worth it, because Keigo was going to be in the lobby or at least was coming there.
Now that he had a moment to think it over he realized that he had basically made the decision to reveal their relationship to everyone.
Both of them had decided not to tell anyone about them until a time where they felt would be best and they had been together a while. There was also the fact that Shoto was still in high school and Keigo was a full fledged pro hero. Shoto had told him that he didn’t care about any of that but Keigo still wasn’t sure. They hadn’t even done anything beyond kissing and sleeping in the same bed and didn’t plan to until Shoto was eighteen and yet Keigo was still worried.
Shoto could understand why, but for the most part his friends and family knew he was capable of making his own decisions and taking care of himself. They knew that if anyone forced him to do something he didn’t want to, unless they were much stronger than him, he would be able to easily defend himself.
The only ones that Shoto was really worried about were Endeavor, for obvious reasons, and Aizawa-sensei and Mic-sensei. Both of them cared about all their students, and ever since Shoto had learned they knew about what happened with his father and his childhood they had gotten much closer, even to the point where Shoto had had dinner with them both. Shoto cared about them a lot and wanted them to approve of Keigo and yet he was sure they would have plenty of objections to their relationship.
Sighing, he shook his head. He would deal with that when the time came.
The elevator doors opened and Shoto rushed out only to stop as he stared at the door next to the nursing station, near the hospitals main entrance.
There were patients, heroes who had been injured, and nursing staff, but the only thing that Shoto’s attention was focused on was the duo walking through the side door.
Best Jeanist and Keigo. Shoto’s heart squeezed as he took him in.
Shoto could almost laugh at the all black outfit he was wearing if it wasn't for the bandages wrapped around his head as well as his chest and the very noticeable respirator on his face and neck.
‘Oh god, Keigo.’ Shoto thought.
Best Jeanist noticed him first and Shoto saw his eyes widen in surprise. He must’ve said something to Keigo because he looked over to Shoto and Shoto could see the way he tensed as he took Shoto in.
“Shoto?” That was all Shoto needed to move towards him.
He practically slammed into him and he was pretty sure the only reason they didn’t fall into the ground and were gently lowered instead was because Best Jeanist was there.
His head was buried in Keigo’s jacket when he felt tears escape his eyes. The stress and worry of the past couple days finally getting to him. Keigo’s hand combed through his hair, one arm wrapped around him.
“Hawks, what exactly is going on?” Best Jeanist asked, clearly confused.
“Well that’s a bit hard to explain.” Keigo responded, and Shoto realized that he must’ve been using some kind of app to talk because he had a robotic undertone to his voice.
“Shoto, aren’t you supposed to be in bed right now?” Shoto didn’t dignify that with an answer.
“I’m sorry.” Is what he said instead.
“Sorry? What’re you sorry for?” Now there were a couple answers to that. He was sorry for what Touya did to him, sorry that he hadn’t told him about his family, and he was especially sorry for what was probably about to happen.
As if he summoned them, Shoto heard a hoard of footsteps coming running in their direction.
“Ah, I get it now.” Keigo said, and Shoto winced. He really hadn’t meant to put him in such a tight spot.
“The hell is this?!”
Huh. Shoto hadn’t really expected them to let Bakugo come along.
“I think what this young man means to say is could someone please explain what’s going on?” His mom asked, her voice clearly strained.
“I’m just as lost as you Mrs. Todoroki.” Best Jeanist responded, probably moving to stand with everyone else.
“Hawks.” Well shit. Endeavor was here. “Are you going to explain why my son is currently laying in your arms or not?”
“Well you see Endeavor…” Keigo trailed off and Shoto decided he should probably help him out. With a deep breath, he lifted himself up and turned around to face everyone.
Bakugo was there with Kirishima holding him up, Endeavor with a doctor at his head, his siblings and mother, Best Jeanist and some of his classmates.
‘Great. An audience.' Shoto blandly thought. Everyone was looking at them, expecting answers, and Shoto just sighed.
“I’m sure you're all wondering what’s going on—”
“Well that’s one way to put it, Icyhot.” Shoto shot Bakugo a glare and was met back with the same.
“As I was saying, I’m sure you’re all wondering what’s going on, and the fact of the matter is that we’ve been keeping something from you all.” Shoto cleared his throat, preparing himself and relaxing just a bit when he felt Keigo’s hand on his arm. “The truth is that me and Keigo, or Hawks as he’s better known, have been in a relationship these past couple months.”
Silence.
Then shouts, questions that Shoto could barely understand over the roar of voices and he supposed he should be glad for the curtains covering hospitals entrance or the media would’ve jumped them all at this point.
“Excuse, I’m sorry but could you all quiet down please?” A nurse asked and everyone seemed to only realize that the entire lobby was looking at them.
“I think it’s best if we took this to a more private area.” Fuyumi said, gesturing to a waiting room.
Everyone agreed, and started heading that way.
“Wait, are you all coming?”
“If you’re talking about us, then yes we’re coming! Our classmate has been hiding that he’s in a relationship with us. We need to know everything!” Mina responded, way more enthusiastic about all of this then Shoto would’ve liked.
Keigo shot him a look, clearly asking for help, but Shoto just shrugged and stood up, offering him a hand up.
Keigo sighed, took his hand and pulled himself up. Shoto gave him a small smile and got an exasperated look in return. Nevertheless they had to face the others, so Shoto grabbed his hand and dragged him along.
“It’s gonna be fine Keigo.”
“If you say so, birdie.”
