"Coffee for your troubles?" A Cross x Ccino fic

Summary:

(Decided to make my own fic for this ship, as I believe it's adorable, and there's barely anything on it. Feedback is greatly appreciated!)

Cross, somewhat alone. Lost. In his own head, thoughts, voices, and guilt thrived. A constant reminder of the calamity he once was, and the family & friends he lost. What will happen when he comes by a little cafè? Who knows..

Chapter 1: Can you make me an Xpresso?

Summary:

Cross is slowly spiraling into his own mind, until the sweet smell of coffee lures him in.

Notes:

Yes, the name is a pun. Deal with it :3

It's semi-important to note that both goobers are in the Omega Timeline here!

Also, obviously, I do not own Undertale, Cross, or Ccino. Please go check out the creators of all three if you haven't already!

Undertale - Toby Fox

Cross- Jakei

Ccino - black-nyanko

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

When he thought about it, Cross was frankly..quite alone. Now, he wasn't alone in the sense of having people around, there was plenty of people he could talk to, but he just didn't feel it. Some Papyrus's would call him "Brother" occasionally, but it didn't feel right, at all. For him, it was difficult to form connections. There was the occasional chat every once in a while, but it didn't really amount to much. Ugh. It was difficult to think. Looking up from whereever he was staying at that moment, decided to get up.

Probably just for a walk to hopefully clear his head. He was in the Omega Timeline, after all. Such a diversity of people here. Swaps, Fells, what seemed like thrown-together stories, all gathered here because they no longer had a home. He didn't really feel much of a need to use his daggers, but he kept them by his side anyway, because they looked cool.

As he walked through the town, he thought about how it was full of color. Meanwhile the world around the town was a blinding white. At least it was better than a monochrome hell. He hadn't really been around the entirety of the Omega Timeline, mostly opting to stay around Epic. One of his best friends, and one of the only people he could kinda trust. One of the only people that was able to make the skeleton laugh, besides the occasional shitty joke from one of the local Sans's or Papyrus's.

He thought about what he was supposed to do anymore. He...used to be a Royal Guard. There wasn't much of a need anymore though, especially since him and the other guards in his AU disbanded before it was destroyed by Cross. Well, this wasn't fun to think about. But he kinda had to eventually.

When he thinks back on it, he never really felt himself doing what he did back in Timeline X. He knew he did it, but it was like he was a spectator in his own body, with front row seats. Like he was in control, but unable to make his own decisions. Each and every one of the strongest of that universe, slaughtered by his own hand. And then, the X-Event. What was he thinking then? He wanted to see them again, but would they really accept him? It hurt to think about. 9 previous timelines playing through his head like false memories, even though they were real. Or well, at least he thought so, as he didn't know any different. Slowly, he started spiraling mentally. Absentmindedly walking. Some gave him looks, but he was a bit too busy to notice. What was going on with him?

Though, something brought him out of this trance. The gentle, sweet smell of coffee. He paused in his own movements, looking up at the structure. Unsurprisingly, it was a cat cafè. Huh. How had he never noticed such a place before. The outside was painted a light beige that brought a comforting feeling to his SOUL in and of itself. The windows were slightly decorated with little paintings of cats and paws, some seemed to be done by the younger residents of the Omega Timeline, and some seemed to be done by the cafè owner themselves. Though, it could also just be an older resident that's really good at drawing. The glass was slightly frosted, so everything inside was kinda warped and hard to see. From what was visible, he could see faint blobs of color sitting on another, larger blob of brown resembling a cactus. Those were probably the cats. He could also see a faint outline of a skeletal figure, with a brown blob hanging from them, from what Cross could only assume to either be an employee, or the owner. He thought about it for a quick moment, and decided to go in. After all, coffee would probably help clear his head.

He opened the door, being greeted by a small bell ringing and that scent of coffee getting stronger. Some of the cats looked over, but ultimately just laid back down. It mostly looked how he believed it to be, from what he could deduce from through the frosted glass anyways. At the front counter, he saw what he assumed to be the owner. A nametag clipped onto his apron read "Ccino". Like cappuccino. "Cute", Cross thought to himself.

As for Ccino, he tilted his head around to look at the slightly taller skeleton, clad in a ripped grey undershirt for his upper half. He could slightly see a white and black jacket around his waist, with some sort of purple substance on the bottom. Ccino didn't know what it was, but he decided not to judge. Overall, it was a new face, and a customer. Those were always nice. Besides a select few, he mostly liked the residents here, and hoped this new face would be the same. Though, something about that look puzzled him. He looked..kind of tired. Like he hadn't slept in ages. Though, Ccino wasn't really one to be talking. He hadn't slept in a few days, mostly due to the fact it's been busy, that plus the fact of trying to get stock back up. Though, as of an hour or so ago, it's been kinda slow. This other skeleton being an exception. Well, it was slow. Might as well try to help him out.

"Coffee for your troubles?" Ccino spoke out, his voice gentle and sweet, though on the lower side.
