Work Text:
Deku knew the final battle against All For One, Shigaraki, and the rest of the villains would be hard, but this?
After Deku had basically rejected Toga and gotten to the actual battle against Shigaraki that he was supposed to be at, he saw something he never should have. It was Katsuki's body, it looked so cold, so damaged, so lifeless. Was Bakugo dead? No, he was in pain, but he'd make a full recovery, you would be able to see the rise and fall of his chest if you were about how close Mirko was to him. Did Deku know that? No.
The air itself shifted, the pressure was suffocating, the oxygen seemed to thin, but there was an unmistakable twinge of electricity - the pure amount of raw power in the air seemed to be the only thing to make it breathable.
In that moment, Deku gave up. He gave up being a good fucking person. He didn't care anymore. Bakugo was DEAD, this shitty war was still going on, All For One probably already killed the rest of his friends, and he just didn't care anymore.
When Aizawa saw Bakugo “die” he felt a lot of things, fear, guilt, sadness, but he didn't have time to feel that. Midoriya had practically crashed into the floating battlefield like a shooting star. The air was different, it was wrong, like someone had messed with it until it wasn't even air anymore. But he could still breathe, which made him feel strangely comforted.
Mirko knew it was happening before she heard or saw it, Dynamite's body falling to the ground, he wasn't dead, but it still hurt to see this KID she was joking around with fall to the ground, defeated. There was a loud crash. Then she felt the air. Something was horribly wrong.
Edgeshot felt it too, he didn't have time to process the hero student being that messed up, he was already going over there to help Dynamite. Then the air changed after a crashing sound, the crash was already scary, but when and why can Shigaraki do that?
Best Jeanist already wanted to throw up, seeing Bakugo, HIS hero student, on the ground half dead. But the crash and the change of air kept him from vomiting. It was a distraction, but it was also dangerous. Did Shigaraki cause that crash? Who was affecting the air?
Bakugo felt the crash, distantly in his mind. Then he felt the air, it was like when Deku used to use 100%, but upscaled one thousand times. It was comforting, it meant Deku was there, and if Deku was there he would be safe.
Deku just turned on Gear Shift, he didn't bother to announce the move. He turned his speed up to the maximum it could go, light.
“Deku! Don't go that fast! You'll run out of oxygen in seconds!”
He heard Second say to him inside his head.
“That's all I need.” Deku thought back.
Turning Gear Shift up to light speed was dangerous, but he didn't care. Deku just walked up to Shigaraki. For everyone else it would be too quick to even leave a feeling of ‘what just passed by my face’. Deku could barely see Shigaraki, but he remembered where he was, and he grabbed his hair. Using 5% of One For All, Deku ripped off Shigaraki's head and let it fall to the ground. 5% was all he needed.
Before he could even think about it twice, he started flying off, still using Gear Shift, still at light speed. Before he knew it he was at the place he wanted to be, the battle with All For One. Deku slowed down for this one, just so he could see better.
Before All For One could even detect Midoriya with any quirk of his, his head was being kicked off with 1000% of One For All.
Izuku, only then turned off Gear Shift, it was only seconds, but he really needed some proper air.
Hawks was the first one to see Deku, he had picked up All For One's head, and he was just panting. All For One's body had crumpled and fallen down to the ground. For a quick second, the air seemed to be, almost tight. Like there were only pockets of it around people but everything else was thinned out and stretched, but the air slowly started to come back to being… looser, after he saw Deku still holding that villains head. Deku wasn't even supposed to be here, did that mean he defeated Shiggy?
Most people didn't get to see Deku for a second, he was now standing over All For One's body, still holding his head. But then, Izuku pulled a Jason Grace and passed out. Hawks, being the only one to see him fall down, carried him away so he wouldn't be in the battle filed.
The aftermath.
Izuku “woke up” in the weird One For All quirk manifestation void thingy, everything was dark- well everything SHOULD HAVE been dark, instead there was a disco ball and multiple of the vestiges were dancing, Izuku was very confused, but he had a feeling that he was going to feel like that for awhile. He also felt a large headache coming on, it was like the throbbing of a tension headache mixed with the overall soreness that he'd get when he forgot to drink water mixed with someone dropping a brick on his head.
Before he knew it, one of the vestiges was sitting him down.
“F-first?”
First kindly smiled back at him, putting what looked like a trauma blanket on him that he got from All Might knows where.
“How did you-” Izuku started before first cut him off.
“All For One is gone ninth, his apprentice as well. You did it.”
Izuku wanted to cry, it was great that All For One and Shigaraki were gone, but he killed them, straight up murder, beheaded them, two people are dead and he's the one who did it.
First, sensing where Izuku's mind was, spoke once more.
“You saved countless lives Deku, you did what even All Might couldn't. You ended All For One.”
First took a moment before speaking again, hoping that would sink in.
“Now, let's get you back to being awake, you've been here longer than you think.”
Before Izuku could even start a sentence, everything faded to black.
Izuku remembered this feeling, waking up in a hospital, normally after a huge fight, at least this time he didn't break any bones. Izuku tried to get up, but he just flopped onto the floor and rolled a bit. Izuku had somehow rolled the wrong way, he just wanted to get to the door, now he was on the other side of the room.
“Fuck.”
He did swear, sometimes, very rarely, and not around people. He just stared at the ceiling like it had all the answers, but Izuku Midoriya needed some answers right now.
Before Izuku could process how depressed he was, he heard laughter. He turned his head.
Between the door to the hospital hallway and his bed, he saw all his classmates.
Deku was shocked, still on the floor, but still shocked. He scrambled to get up then fell flat on his face again. “Ow.”
Now most of his classmates were giggling.
Uraraka went over to help him up.
“Deku, be careful, we thought you died and were all pretty worried …”
“Why would you think that?”
Deku was genuinely confused, but he was still able to get up.
Everyone shared a look, it was a mix of ‘oh no thats to bad’ and ‘FUCK FUCK FUCK- WHAT DO WE DO-’.
Iida, being one of Midoriya's friends, in the Deku squad, and having had Deku save him after he literally attempted murder, decided to bite the bullet.
“Deku-kun, how long do you think you've been out?”
Oh no. How long had he been out, First did say it was a while, didn't he? “Based on the way you said that I'm guessing far too long?” Izuku tried to make his words feel a little silly to take off some tension.
.
.
.
“Deku,” Todoroki started after far too long in silence. “its been a month and a half. Quirk exhaustion and lack of oxygen are no joke.”
Izuku was going to start multiple sentences, instead he opened his mouth to speak and no words came out, he looked like a fish.
Ojiro looked directly at the reader/listeners of this fanfic before looking back at Deku.
“Don't worry, it's only been a few words for the readers.”
Most people in the class would have been off put by that, but they were used to Ojiro making up weird things to say that it just doesn't bother them anymore. So instead, everyone just nodded along like they understood.
But Izuku felt his headache coming back, “what-” he said like that information was more shocking then the fact he had been in a coma for like a month.
“All Ojiros are sentient.”
Izuku decided that was a can of worms he would not be opening. He had far too many things to process in far too little time to understand any of it.
“One thing at a time please, headache”
Uraraka was practically holding him up. She decided that this was a perfect time to ask Deku a question. “Hey Deku-”
“Yes?” Deku said, wincing from how loud her voice was.
“No one in here knows how All For One and Shigaraki died- do you? Well, Bakugo knows about Shigaraki's death, but it was too scary for him to retell-”
Bakugo got up, he was fully recovered by now. He moved a bit so everyone could see them a little better.
“I'm not really scared of anything as all you you dumbasses know, but what I saw was so bad that I don't think Izuku wants to talk about it-”
Izuku seeing Kacchan, and more importantly realizing Kacchan was alive, was able to quickly steady himself, and walk slightly closer to Kacchan.
“YOU'RE ALIVE!?”
“Yes nerd, I'm-”
Deku walked forward a bit more.
Bakugo, thinking Izuku was going in for a hug, opened his arms.
Deku bitch slapped him across the face. “I thought you died! I saw your dead body!” Deku was now shaking Kacchan like he owed him money. “Did you not die?! What happened–”
Uraraka was able to get Deku back and off of Bakugo.
“Ok maybe we just like explain some of the weird stuff that happened during the final battle-”
Deku finally paying attention this time around blinked, again, confused.
“What do you wanna know?”
Tokoyami, one of the few people to be in the All For One fight, spoke up.
“Everyone in my area was well aware of a presence. . . It felt like the air was tight, magnetic, but still somehow breathable… it was also strangely comforting, like whatever God-like power was at play was there to protect.”
The class was quiet, before Kirishima, one of the people Uraraka actually fought alongside with, spoke up, trying to be sweet.
“Woah dude, you really didn't have to go THAT hard with it, you're so good with your words! You make it sound like some celestial being came down just to spite All For One!”
“That's exactly what it felt like,” Bakugo said, still holding his stinging cheek. “It was exactly how Bird Brain described it, it did feel like an all powerful celestial god came down just to kill two villains.” Bakugo said the last part making eye contact with Izuku.
Everyone shut up again at the idea of something so godly, so powerful, helping out, it sounded like the work was above them.
Denki tried to steer the conversation back to Deku possibly having the answers.
“Deku! Also also- do you know how they actually died, like, we know they're heads like got cut off or something but that's all anyone will tell us. You were at the sky battle and we found you passed out not too far from All For One's body when Hawks was moving you! Did you see anything?”
“Uh… about that-” Deku was honestly almost embarrassed, he felt horrible about murdering people, but to have everyone describing him as ‘godly’ and what not, that was just too much. “Ok so funny story, I kinda saw Kacchan's body and thought he was dead then got mad… then I kinda used some of my quirks to go really fast and behead Shigaraki, then I was still mad so I kicked All For One's head off…”
Multiple people may or not of fainted and had to be taken to other hospital rooms.
