The group sat in a big circle, a couple of beers opened, wine glasses with little to nothing of alcohol left, and a few snacks splattered in the center of the circle. The majority of the adults were drunk by now, bored to death.
“Come on, aren’t we a little too old for ‘Truth or Dare?’” Shikamaru whined after Ino’s suggestion. Hinata, Sasuke, Neji and himself were the only ones who were not intoxicated with the drinks. Ino was laughing while clinging to his arm, trying to give him another drink. He took it before she spilled it.
“Not if we make it spicy”, her answer came with another whine from Nara. The rules were simple, and since everyone on the group has at least played ‘Truth or Dare’ once in their lifetime, Ino only had to make the arrangements and choose who will start the game. “Okay, Naruto ‘Truth or Dare’?” she asked.
“Dare, baby!” Naruto immediately answered. It was no surprise, everybody in the room knew what his choice would be.
Ino looked at Kiba signaling him to assign the dare. Inuzuka smiled devilishly, the blonde would regret choosing “dare”, and as per previously said, if someone didn’t want to do the dare or tell the truth, a shot must be given to this person.
“Go knock on Neji's neighbor's door and tell them a snake bit you in the ass. You must take your pants off.” Naruto’s smile faded while the others laughed, even Hinata laughed quietly while taking a sip of her drink. Oh, Ino wasn’t joking about making it spicy. “But, if you’re a whiny baby, you can drink.”
It was easy to annoy Naruto, either you call him a coward, a baby or joke about his intelligence. With a sore mood, Naruto got up and immediately took off his pants showing his orange boxers, the group laughed again with some flirty whistles. “Go on, Naruto! Show them your youthful spirit!” Lee cheered before helping Tenten to get up.
They all moved to the front door to watch the blonde, he hadn't started, yet it was already difficult not to laugh. Naruto took a deep breath before starting to bang the door, almost desperate.
“Help! Help! Please help me!” He continued to knock for a few more seconds before a girl around their age opened clearly annoyed. “What do you want?” Her face grinned looking at the state he was in. “A snake bit me in my ass, please help me!”
Before he could say more, the girl closed the door on his face, making the whole group erupted in laughter. “Man, I’m never doing this again…” Naruto whined while walking back to Neji’s apartment. Still laughing, the group sat again while the blonde put his pants back on. “Okay, Tenten”, he called, “Truth or Dare?”
“Truth, I’m not stupid”, the answer came as fast as she could. “Fuck, marry and kill: Ino, Neji, Hinata.” Her smirk disappeared when Naruto finished the sentence.
“Well, I rather kill myself.” With that, Tenten took a shot of vodka, deciding not to answer. The other young adults booed at her. “Shino, Truth or Dare?”
“Dare”. That was unexpected, Tenten thought. “If Kiba is comfortable, kiss him right in front of everyone.” Hinata’s eyes opened wide, Ino covered her mouth when Choji gasped. “Yeah! Do it, man!” Shino looked at his best friend with an unreadable expression, Kiba was surprised but then shrugged his shoulders. With that, Shino kissed him full on the lips for five seconds.
“I can’t believe I saw that," Sakura babbled. “This is the best.”
Sai silently agreed, there was some fun in the game. It was Shino’s turn to choose someone, so he scanned the room and decided to ask Chōji. He was a pretty chill guy, so it was no surprise he had chosen to answer one truth. The game was moving fast, everyone feeling comfortable enough to do what was asked to. After Chōji, Lee was dared to drink three shots of whisky, making him almost puke on Neji’s carpet.
“I’m never drinking again”, Rock said while Ino offered a cold towel. “Neji, what do you choose?” He held his breath, everybody could tell he was about to pass out. As the always boring Neji, or that’s what Naruto would say, he asked a question he was not able to answer therefore, a shot of alcohol was given to him and he drank with red cheeks adorning his face.
Sakura was next ready to take a dare. Ino pleaded with Neji so she could be the one who gave her the dare, he didn’t care nor did he have any idea what to dare Sakura to do. “Okay, billboard forehead, give Shikamaru a lap dance for the entirety of the song.”
“Aw, man”, Nara whispered while Kiba barked and Naruto whistled. Ino played a random song, trying to set the sexy vibe for Haruno. Sure, both of them had friends in common, but they were not close by any means, so the whole activity was full of embarrassment and awkwardness at first.
Hinata was amazed by the confidence Sakura acquired a few instants later when she saw the pink-haired girl move her body. Shikamaru, for once, had his cheeks pink, but tried to pay attention to the dance while respecting their common friend.
“I never thought I would see Shikamaru blush”, Ino whispered near Hinata’s ear. The Hyūga nodded, she didn’t think it would be possible either, but then again, she hadn’t thought a lot of situations would be possible to happen and her friends showed her wrong. A little tired, Hinata rested her head on Ino’s shoulder.
“Are you okay?”, she heard the blonde’s voice again, this time worried.
“Yeah, just a little tired, but I’m having fun.” Sai saw the interaction with a raised brow before distracting himself with the ending pose. The whole group applauded Sakura, Shikamaru helped her to sit back in place, and when she was ready, she looked at Kiba with red cheeks. “Kiba, Truth or Dare?”
“Dare!” It was obvious, really. Kiba was exactly like Naruto, no matter how much the both of them denied it. Sakura studied for a moment the spots everyone had chosen at the beginning of the game, she smirked when the idea came to her mind.
“Serenade Neji with a love song.”
Silence.
The whole group went into silence just for Naruto to break it with a scandalous laugh, Kiba and Neji felt their cheeks burn before looking at each other with disdain. “You’ve got to be kidding me, Sakura!” Inuzuka stood up still blushing and agitated.
“Oh, come on! Don’t be such a baby, it’s either that or drink whatever I make”, the green-eyed girl warned.
“Go make whatever you want, I’m not serenading Hyūga!”
Sakura, still laughing, but kind of disappointed about the unfulfilled challenge, prepared a mix of different alcohols with soda. She gave it to Inuzuka and watched him drink it. “This tastes like shit”, he said with a grin.
“You could’ve avoided it if you just sang your love to Neji.”
He grinned again and rolled his eyes. “Yeah, yeah. Uchiha, truth or dare?”
He changed the topic and continued with the game. There were a couple of their friends who hadn’t participated yet.
“Wait!” Naruto interrupted. “Why does Kiba get to choose if he already gave me a dare?”
“Because he’s my favorite and someone needed to start the game.”
Ino answered while she rolled her eyes. Yamanaka signed Sasuke to answer and continue playing.
“Dare”, Sasuke answered shortly after. “Kiss the person you believe is the prettiest in the room.” Sasuke smirked and silently thanked Sakura, Inuzuka just gave him a child’s game kind of dare thanks to her previous dare.
“Ino”, he called.
“Yes, sweetheart?” She looked at him with a sarcastic smile, waiting.
“Could you move so I can kiss Hinata?” With the same calm he had at the beginning, he sarcastically smiled, trying not to laugh with his own joke.
Kiba mocked the blonde girl, but Ino didn’t give him the satisfaction of her own annoyance. Hinata was more than surprised to know that Sasuke wanted to kiss her, even more that he thinks she’s pretty, but even in her shyness, she settled so the Uchiha could approach her.
Sasuke took her chin with care, he admired the expression the shorter girl had. Some sort of expectation, surprise and nervousness. With a wink, Sasuke kissed Hinata for a good amount of seconds before Neji demanded that he go away.
Both separated, Hinata with her whole face like a tomato and Sasuke with a smirk. Maybe he was a little drunk? Before the older Hyūga continued screaming, Sasuke looked at Shikamaru. “What do you choose?”, he said without addressing him.
“Aren’t you supposed to say ‘Truth or Dare’?” Nara responded with laziness.
Uchiha rolled his eyes, clearly annoyed about the answer he received. “Nara, ‘Truth or Dare’?”
“Dare”, Shikamaru had trusted Sasuke would not destroy his reputation with whatever challenge he would impose, but when he saw his smirk… Boy he was done.
“Send your ex a message telling that you miss her.”
Oh.
“Which ex?”
“Temari.”
Well. Fuck.
I’ll be damned, Shikamaru thought. Their friend group knew how badly they ended the relationship, and although it was quite a few months ago, he certainly didn’t know how she would react. With a heavy sigh, Nara took his phone and created a chat with his ex-girlfriend, then sent the message.
“Add a sticker or something.” Kiba said. He clearly didn’t know him that well, because Shikamaru never used any emoji, sticker or gif while chatting.
Nara scoffed but either way, he tried to look for an appropriate emoji. In the middle of his search, Temari answered.
Fuck off. With a flashy middle finger.
Well, that's about right.
“Happy?”, he asked the Uchiha while showing him the received message. Sasuke nodded with a smirk before drinking. He was satisfied, so he signed Shikamaru to ask the next person.
“Sai, “truth or dare?”
“Truth”, Naruto booed at him, but he didn’t care. “If you would make a threesome with any of the people in this room, who would it be?”
Ino let a whistle out. The black-haired man scanned the room. “Tenten and… I don’t know, maybe Sakura?”
Both girls turned red with his comment, you could never know if Sai was being serious or not.
“Fair enough”, Shikamaru said, pleased with the answer, “your turn”.
“Hinata, ‘truth or dare’?”, Sai asked her.
“Truth”, same with Naruto and Kiba, it was obvious what Hinata would choose.
“Who was your first kiss?” He asked.
“Oh come on, Sai. Everybody knows it was with Naruto.” Sakura intervenes, if Hinata had to answer that, it would be boring.
“It was… not Naruto…”
Silence.
“It was with Ino.”
“WHAT?!”
The collective amusement scared Hinata a bit, but even if her face was red again, she repeated herself. “My first kiss was with Ino.”
The blonde confirmed with a nod when the rest of their friends looked at her. Hilarious, Ino thought. Their expressions, the way Neji was malfunctioning with the new information about his dear cousin he had just received, open mouths with disbelief… It was hilarious. With that, Hinata avoided drinking.
“I-Ino, ‘Truth or Dare’?” Finally, the last participant of the round.
“Dare”, Ino responded knowing well how Hinata wouldn’t humiliate her. Before she had any time to give her a challenge, Kiba interrupted her to scream his dare.
“Kiss Hinata! I need to see this, kiss Hinata right now!”
“Oh, don’t start Ki-”
“Shut up, Sakura. Hinata saw Shino and I kissing, I need to see this too.”
Well, he was right. She did see them and secretly enjoyed it. Ino sighed before looking back at Hinata, silently asking if it was okay. The blonde could feel her heart beating fast.
Hinata nodded followed by a small smile to let her know she trusted her. Ino gave Kiba the middle finger before getting close to Hinata, she gave her one last look before kissing her for a couple of seconds.
The room erupted in screams, Tenten had Neji hugged to prevent him from jumping on them. Lee, who was half asleep, came back to life just to see the exact moment both women separated. Sakura was shocked, but mostly, trying to read Ino’s expression. Yamanaka? Oh, she was malfunctioning. Her heart was beating so fast that she thought it was going to jump out of her chest. Hinata had her whole face as red as they’ve never seen it, but Kiba was content with the result of the dare.
Seeing as the first round of the game was done, Naruto was the one who took the command for the next round, asking Sasuke the same question for the game.
It took a couple of rounds for the group to call it for the night and start cleaning around Neji’s apartment. Hinata, with the help of Sasuke and Shikamaru, took on duty the dishes and leftover food.
Neji, Tenten and Sai started to prepare the spare room for the guys, meanwhile Naruto and Choji helped clean the girls room to its original state and Shino and Kiba took the trash out of the building.
“Ino”, Sakura called, “help me get Lee to bed.”
The poor guy was unconscious. It wasn’t easy, but after they dragged him to Neji’s bedroom, they left him on the bed.
Ino was about to leave the room when her best friend talked again.
“So, what was that?”
She stopped.
“What do you mean?”
Haruno rolled her eyes. Really? Ino playing dumb? “Do you think I wouldn’t notice how you snuggle with Hinata? Or how you went really quiet after you kissed her? What’s going on?”
Ino rolled her eyes with a sour mood. “Nothing’s going on, it was just the game and stupid Kiba.”
“Don’t lie to me, I know you better than you’d like to admit, what’s going on? Do you still like her or something?”
“Oh come on, Sakura. Calm down, it’s nothing.”
Ino was starting to feel frustrated. Yes, she stills very much like Hinata, not that she would want to say it out loud.
“Ino, I have a favorite bathroom stall at work. Don’t ask me to calm down.”
The two of them shared a knowing look before Ino sighed defeated. Sometimes Yamanaka hated her best friend, but she knew Sakura had pure intentions.
“Don’t worry, okay? I’ll talk to her about what happened.”
In reality, Ino agonized the moment they could have the chance to speak. It clearly needed to be a private conversation, and even though she had a high self-esteem, she was wary about having a heartbreak.
Both women left the room to continue organizing the improvised slumber party. The guys would sleep in Neji’s bedroom and living room, while the girls would sleep in the spare bedroom in Neji’s apartment. Hinata didn’t ignore the distance Ino had unconsciously put between the two. She somehow felt responsible for that, but being honest with herself, she didn’t think her revelation would develop like that.
She couldn’t stop herself from pouting, but still continued to help with the remaining preparations. Sasuke excused himself, living close he preferred his own bed, besides he socialized enough with everyone. Naruto was the second to pass out, a combination with the alcohol, the lived embarrassment and his demanding shift as a firefighter were enough to make him go to sleep.
Neji layed down next to Lee, and Shikamaru and Choji opted for the two sofas in the living room. Ino was the last one to go to sleep, Tenten and Sakura already in dreamland when she entered the room, Hinata gave her a small smile before laying next to Haruno. Yamanaka knew she wouldn’t be able to sleep next to Hinata, but no one needed to know that.
One could stay in bed trying to fall asleep after so many hours, she tossed, changed positions, grabbed a sweater... She tried everything! Well, everything that didn’t need her to go to the kitchen and potentially wake up her two male best friends.
Frustrated, Ino got up and silently walked out of the bedroom, closing the door behind her. She heard Shikamaru’s softs snorings and felt jealous. How could he sleep so profoundly when your best friend is having a mental breakdown?
Okay, maybe it is not fair to him, but Ino wasn’t known for being fair.
With a soft sighed, Ino moved to the small balcony, closing the glass door behind her. She sat on one of the outdoor chairs.
A couple of minutes passed in complete silence. The city was asleep, the weather was kind of cold but she didn’t mind. It was nice to feel like being able to breathe again.
What was she going to do? How could she talk to Hinata about this?
Ino was building a strategy to avoid the topic, when the sound of the door sliding caught her attention.
Perfect. The last person she wanted to see at the moment.
“Ino? Are you okay?”
Hinata approached her once she closed the door, brows furrowed with worry.
“Ino?”
She insisted when the blond girl didn’t answer.
“I… Yeah, it’s just…”
Hinata wasn’t one for pushing, but leaning closer to Ino she looked at her. “Is something wrong?”
Hinata knew there was.
“Not wrong… I just don’t know how to tell you this.” What if she ruined their friendship? What if Hinata thought that their relationship wasn’t genuine because of her little crush?
“Does it have something to do with tonight?”
Ino sighed before turning her whole body to Hinata. The chairs were comfortable enough to allow her to do it.
“Yeah, and I hope you don’t hate me but… The truth is that I have had a crush on you since our first kiss. It has come and go as we have grown up, but I think dating other people was me trying to forget that I like you.”
Hinata froze in her place, “You like me? Why?” Nice way to go, Hinata.
Ino saw her as if she had grown a second head. “What do you mean ‘why?’ Hinata you’re beautiful! You’re such a nice and sweet person, an amazing friend. You love what you do, and you’re so good with your students. You listen, you’re present. You’re wonderful Hinata, and I would love you to see it.”
Hinata was baffled, she wasn’t expecting to receive any kind of compliment, and coming from Ino made her heart flutter. With a slow pace, she took one of Ino’s cold hands between hers and squished it for a few seconds.
“Ino… You’re such an amazing person too. You’re a good friend, you definitely are beautiful and your energy always pushes me to be better.” If Ino was about to be rejected, this would be the first time someone has been this kind when doing so. “I like you too, I think I’ve always do since a few years back.”
Ino’s adrenaline immediately went up as her heart started to beat faster, her eyes opened in a surprise gesture, as Hinata saw her reaction, she giggled before squishing her hand again.
Ino sighed and the tension abandoned her body, her nervous expression changed to one filled with softness and tranquility. She’s never dreamed about this and to be honest, she wasn’t expecting this either, but with a soft smile on her lips, she leaned more to her friend and softly kissed Hinata.
Their lips moved slowly, almost shy on each other as they tried to meet this new part of them, both of their eyes stayed closed as the seconds passed and they still continued to share the gesture. Their hands found their way to the others, and while their kiss was still soft, the grip in each other's hands were firm.
After a while, both breathless, separated a little to look into each other’s eyes. “Are you still drunk?” Hinata asked jokingly.
“Not anymore”, Ino laughed for a bit before a cheesy idea came to her. “Hinata, ‘Truth or Dare’?”
Hinata couldn’t stop herself from laughing, but she still responded, “Dare.”
“I dare you to be my girlfriend.”
She smiled widely before nodding. “Deal.” And with that, both women met mid way to kiss again.
If someone told Ino that she was gonna kiss her crush again, confess and then start a relationship, she would’ve laughed.
