Work Text:
He had waited until the end of your shift to reveal his presence. You were happy to see him. But not as happy as he was to be the reason you smiled after a hard day of work.
"Hello, Pierrot! I hoped you would visit again. Do you by any chance want to take a walk with me?"
He perked up, the small bells on his hat dingeling with his excited nodding. You had wanted to see him again? Hoped for it. He grinned, following you out of the cafe.
"The circus showed up recently so I thought I'd show you some nice places. Nothing grand, it's a city, but there is more to it than dirty streets."
You stopped and entered a narrow space between two rows of houses. Pierrot had to walk behind you. He wasn't sure about what you said but he appreciated it.
A clearing appeared, surrounded by the windowless backs of houses on all sides. The ground was covered in stone tiles. Benches and trees formed a circle around a patch of wild flowers. Surprisingly, it was clean and not littered with illegal trash.
"Sometimes I come here when I need silence." Not since Pierrot had found you. "You can come here too, if the world gets too much."
Pierrot came closer. You politely backed up, and then remembered why he came closer. You stood still, letting him close the distance and whisper in your ear. The intimacy of it never failed to make your body heat up.
"That won't be needed."
His gentle voice right in your ear didn't help to make your heart rate calm down.
"You are all I need."
The implications send a shiver down your spine.
"I'm not always available."
He looked at you knowingly, not answering.
You tore your eyes away, backing out of his space with another step back to take back control over your mind.
"Anyway, there is another reason I come here." You walked over to a bench and sat down. "Make yourself comfortable."
Pierrot chose to sit down on the other end of the bench you sat on.
You pointed up to the sky. "This peaceful place is perfect to look up at the sky and get lost in my imagination."
Pierrot followed your gaze. The sky was blue, clouds slowely passing by.
"I can see a fox and a dragon sitting and having tea. And that one is a train. There is a big dragon head preparing to spit fire."
Your eyes travel back to earth, Pierrot was already looking at you, confusion apparent.
"You give it a try. What do you see in the clouds?"
Hesitantly, he looked at the sky again. After a minute, he scooted closer to you.
"That one reminds me of you."
You looked up at his eyes. They were a lovely color. You rubbed your fingers together to keep your cool. "Why?"
"You're on my mind."
Call the fire department. He set your body on fire.
You laughed and stood up, feeling the sudden urge to move around.
"That's so..." You had no words to describe it. You glanced back. He looked somewhat dejected with a sunken posture.
"...Sweet? Of you?" Was it? You didn't know. "Thank you? ...No one has ever... said that...?" What where you talking about? You wanted to convey to him that his words were flattering but your mouth did not comply the way you wanted it to.
No, that was it. Just be honest and forward.
"I'm flattered that you think about me." Crisis solved.
His grin was back as if he never felt anything but happiness.
"Okay, that was all I wanted to show you for today. Let's go home." Let's move on and forget your awkward attempt at speaking. He jumped up and was by your side in seconds.
"Are the other places dangerous for you to go to alone too? I should always accompany you to keep you safe."
You liked that idea. A lot.
