Kira’s POV
I’m very known to be ignorant and ruthless. I hate associating myself with anyone and everyone, I despise it. Well everyone, but for one person, Yumeko. I only communicate to Yumeko. Ever since that incident, I never wanted to speak to anyone but Yumeko.
We were walking down on one of the hall way of Saint Dominic’s, as usual it is filled with students. Yumeko was telling me about her day “We were dissecting a dead mice, it was interesting how their inside works and we were able to look at it in a microscope.” She said as explained how in her class she was dissecting some animal for her Biology class. I frowned a bit in confusion , I thought we stopped doing that a couple years back to stop animal cruelty.
“That’s actually fascinating” I responded anyway and nodding as we walk side by side. We were walking down and I see heads turning to look our way like they were confused or scared and gossip going around quicker than a wild fire. It’s not the first time this was happening. I’ve gotten used to the attention we were getting.
However, Yumeko loves the attention. She would make those silly faces or do random things in front of them that would make me burst out of laughter and the other student would make a weird face like she was going crazy.
She never cared for others would say. Neither would I.
We walked away like nothing happened but I knew deeply inside, my father would be watching us, he always does. He’s been watching more lately ever since the accident with my sister. I don’t think he’s protective, it’s more possessive. Shortly after I heard my phone rang. Speaking of the devil. “Kirari, where are you?” My father said with a dead tone like a lifeless soul he is.
“Father, I know that you’re watching me and know where I am” I replied in a serious tone. By now, I know how my father acts.
“Come back to the house right now” he always wants to get what he demands like nothing in the world matters. However, Yumeko beside me is foolishly dancing to whatever. Making me slightly giggle.
“I’m in the middle of classes” I excused, I didn’t want to leave Yumeko alone at school. We’re the only two that keep each other company. I’ve never seen her talk to anyone but me.
“I’ll excuse you for them” I sighed in defeat.
“Then I shall be there shortly, father” then hanged up the phone. I knew if I kept making excuses it will just anger him more. I hated seeing him angry, I hated seeing him in general. Seeing him never goes well.
I decided I’m going to be bringing Yumeko along. It didn’t matter what my father asked for, I couldn’t leave Yumeko alone.
Our family driver picked us up in front of the school. Yumeko and I were laughing and giggling about random things on the drive home when I see the driver, keeps looking at us through his rear view mirrors like we’re crazy idiots. I’ve also noticed he’s been acting strange for a couple months now ever since Yumeko and I started becoming friends.
I’ve glared him, sending him threatening looks to quit looking. Yumeko tapped me little to signal that we should just ignore it.
We’ve arrived at our mansion, it looks sad and grey. It’s never been the place that screams welcome.
My father was waiting for me in the living room and there was two women in white with him. They look like nurses or doctors. I wouldn’t know what specialty they do.
He instructed me to sit and cooperate. Completely ignoring my company who I brought. I whispered to Yumeko to sit next to me. I was given strange looks from my father and his two visitors, he didn’t like Yumeko, I knew that from the beginning.
“I brought Yumeko, I hope you didn’t mind father” I gave him a very expressionless response.
“That’s what I asked you to come home for, my daughter” he said still with a poker face.
“Not what, Father. It’s who. Yumeko is a human. Please respect her.” I replied.
“Kirari, Yumeko doesn’t exist” he said with a slight tremble in his voice. I can see the slightest worried or maybe fear on his eyes. It’s something you don’t see with your naked eye, I knew my father well enough to tell. I’ve mastered every expression he has, this one I don’t see often.
“She’s right here next to me, what do you mean by this?” I frowned a little out of frustration. I looked at Yumeko smiling so sweetly at me. Then my father looking even more worried than before.
The two women stepped to where Yumeko and I seated, they stopped in front of me. They held out a syringe with fluid in it, I don’t know what they’re trying to do but I tried to grab Yumeko to run. Although before I could even move they’ve got me injected with it.
It gave me a the slightest headache and made me feel dizzy till I passed out.
-
I woke up in a hospital bedroom, my head still slightly aching. Trying to figure out what my last memory was.
My father asked me to meet him back in the house, I arrived there he has two woman with him. All I knew, I was injected with some fluid I didn’t know what.
“Good, you’re awake” My father said waking in to the room. “Do you remember what happened?”
I tried to think about it more, I remembered how my father said Yumeko doesn’t exist. How could that be possible, she was with me but my memory is showing that I wasn’t with anyone. In the hall ways, the classes, in the car. Everywhere that I thought I was with her, I can’t picture it in my head like she never actually existed.
It all made sense now, patterns of looks, the talks, the gossip that was presented to us or should I say to me was because Yumeko isn’t real. It ached me a little that she never actually existed.
What we had felt so real but it was in my head. I imagined the happiness we had. In the end, I wished it was all real.
