Work Text:
Quest sat in the kitchen and exhaled deeply. The house was for once quiet and there were no chores to be done.
Seymour perched on the counter by the window, scribbling away in their notebook. The younger two of the Lark sat by their feet playing checkers. August was either crocheting or mending their Lark’s costumes in the sitting room. They feared stirring the peace so they didn’t dare inquire.
A lock rattled and the front door burst open.
“OOOOAIIII!” A familiar voice called.
“Cooper!” The children shouted joyfully, racing to the door.
Quest shook their head, listening to their laughs and their spouses playful growls and roars.
“I’ve found us dinner, dear!” Cooper announced, marching into the kitchen.
Cole hung limp in one arm, Kingsley and Clemente squashed in the other while Perrine clung to their back stifling a laugh. They all screeched at Cooper’s words, clambering to escape their grip.
“Retreat, Lark!”
“Tumakboooooo!”
“We’ll have to a build a fortress!”
“Yeah!”
Their footsteps receded up the stairs, muffled giggles reaching the Playwright’s ears.
“~Well, hello there~.” Cooper cooed, taking the stool beside them. “You come here often, gorgeous?”
Quest swatted their shoulder. “Goof. How was your day?”
Cooper shrugged. “Dealt with a squabble in the market. That was about it. I spent most the day at the watchtowers, eating snacks. Oh and Bin dropped by.”
They snickered. “I think they were scotted, but who knows- this is Bin we’re talking about. So I ended up dancing with them and dragging them home when they got tired.”
“Oo, glad I got me a partner who does their job so well and dances with the mail-person.” Quest deadpanned. “It really does things to me while I’m at home doing chores.”
They laughed and pressed a chaste kiss on their cheek.
“I couldn’t have asked for anyone better than you, love.” Cooper mumbled into their skin. “I missed you all day.”
Quest tilted their head and captured their lips between their own, humming in content.
“Blegh!”
The children peeking around the frame, turned and glared at Kingsley. Quest chuckled and pulled back.
“Spies!” Cooper roared, leaping from their seat.
The house burst into cacophony of cries, pounding feet and delighted screams, echoing across the walls. It was longer quiet and everything would likely be a mess again in mere time. Quest sighed, but a smile tugged on their lips.
They wouldn’t have it any other way.
