Chapter 1: A guy in a box

Chapter Text

It’s the year x477 and Hermit and the other 3 shinning stars have travelled their separate ways into the universe, Witch staying behind on the EDENS ZERO. Hermit has one goal on her mind. She’s going to help humans!

Currently, she is resting on an asteroid that’s floating in space, rolled into a ball with her legs pressing against her chest.

“I’ll go wherever this asteroid takes me.” She thinks to herself.

Looking out into the vastness of space, everything seems so calm and far away. She’s completely alone except for the small asteroid cluster surrounding her.

Suddenly, she notices something. A flash of light and… A blue box coming straight towards her!

She quickly jumps out of the way as it crash lands into the asteroid. There’s now smoke coming off the box. Hermit cautiously approaches it. Suddenly, the door flings open, and she jumps back. Someone stumbles out with messy blonde hair and a long blue coat.

“Who are you?” She shouts.

The man holds up a small device and looks at Hermit.

“I’m The Doctor. And who are you?”

“I’m Hermit…” She looks over at his box, which is still smoking. “Looks like you had a bit of a bad ride.”

The Doctor leans against his box and crosses his arms.

“Yep. She’s pretty wrecked. But I’m sure I can fix her up in no time.”

He runs back inside and Hermit watches curiously from the outside as flashes and sparks come from inside the box. Suddenly, there’s a loud bang and The Doctor runs back outside panting as more smoke emerges.

“Ahh, sorry. Still getting used to everything in this new body.”

Hermit raises an eyebrow. “New body?”

The Doctor rubs the back of his neck. “Right yeah. You probably don’t know what regeneration is, do you?”

Hermit shakes her head.

“Well, it’s a Timelord thing… I’m guessing you don’t know what that is either… I’ll just explain it later… Maybe… Depends.”

“Depends on what?”

“If I let you stick around.”

Hermit briefly looks at the floor and then back up at him, fiddling with her skirt.

“Well, I’m good with tech and spaceships and stuff. Maybe I can help fix your box thing.”

“It’s called a TARDIS.” The Doctor chuckles slightly under his breath. “Box thing.”

Hermit rolls her eyes. “Just show me the problem and I’ll try fixing it for you.”

“Alright then shortie. Follow me. And get ready for a shock.”

“It’s Hermit!”

The Doctor laughs and leads Hermit inside the TARDIS. As she steps inside, she gasps.

“Woah! It’s so much bigger on the inside!”

“Yeah. Most people say that.”

Hermit walks around, struggling to take everything in. She then looks back at The Doctor.

“So, what am I fixing?”

The Doctor lifts up part of the console, wafting away the smoke.

“This.”

Hermit looks down at the messy wires and stretches her arms.

“Alright. Let’s do this!”

She immediately gets to work rearranging and connecting the wires. The Doctor stands back and crosses his arms in amusement. After around 10 minutes she steps back.

“Done!” She grins.

The Doctor chuckles. “Wow! You actually did it. Well done!”

“Thanks! I’m glad I could be of help.”

“You really are good with this stuff, huh.”

Hermit giggles. “Does that mean I can stay with you, and we can be friends!?”

The Doctor smiles and sighs. “Sure, why not. Besides, you’ll be useful if I have any more TARDIS problems”

Hermit jumps up and down with excitement.

“You’re certainly full of energy aren’t you.” He gently pats her head. “So, where and when do you want to go first?”

She looks up at him.

“When?”

“Oh yeah. Did I forget to mention the TARDIS travels through space And time!”

“Woah! That’s so cool! I don’t even know where I’d begin. You pick somewhere Doctor.”

“Alright! 21st century England, Earth it is. You’ll love it there, trust me!”

The Doctor starts up the TARDIS and it makes its familiar sound as it dematerialises.
