Chapter 1: Chapter 1 One-shot

Chapter Text

summary:

Marinette and Damien are on a joint field trip to the zoo with their respective classes from Paris and Gotham. While at the zoo, Lila, who is jealous and spiteful, shoves Marinette and Damien into a panther's enclosure when she thinks no one is watching. As the classes rush to get help, Damien bravely positions himself between Marinette and the panther, Shuri. However, instead of attacking, Shuri becomes playful and protective towards the couple.

As the situation unfolds, Lila's true nature is exposed. She is arrested for attempted murder and slander against various celebrities she falsely claimed to know. The rest of Marinette’s Parisian class, who had bullied her, face severe consequences: detention and lawsuits. Alya is forced to delete her blog and faces legal action, while Adrien is sent to live with another relative for his complicity in Lila's lies, having believed they were harmless. His peers at school ostracize him, leading to his humiliation.

Meanwhile, Ms. Bustier and the school principal are fired for taking bribes, wrongfully expelling Marinette without investigation, embezzling money, and other corrupt actions. Marinette gets a restraining order against her former classmates and moves to Gotham to live with Damien, leaving her old life behind as her former class suffers the consequences of their actions.

Chapter 1: The Panther's Embrace

The sun shone brightly over the bustling city of Gotham, casting a warm glow on the students as they arrived at the city’s renowned zoo. This joint field trip between Paris’ Collège Françoise Dupont and Gotham Academy was supposed to be a day filled with excitement, learning, and perhaps a little adventure. For Marinette Dupain-Cheng, however, it was just another day she had to endure the lies and manipulations of Lila Rossi.

As the two classes mingled, Marinette found herself standing beside Damien Wayne, the enigmatic and brooding student from Gotham Academy. They had grown close since their schools started collaborating on various projects, and today, for the first time, Damien had reached out and taken her hand. A soft smile tugged at Marinette’s lips, the warmth of his touch giving her a momentary escape from the stress that constantly surrounded her in Paris.

Unbeknownst to them, Lila was watching with narrowed eyes, her jealousy bubbling over. Seeing Marinette happy was something she couldn’t tolerate, especially now that she had Damien—a boy she had attempted to charm, only to be coldly rejected. Lila’s mind worked quickly, hatching a plan to bring Marinette down once and for all.

As the group neared the panther enclosure, Lila saw her opportunity. While everyone was distracted by the majestic creature prowling in the distance, she stealthily moved behind Marinette and Damien, giving them a hard shove. The world seemed to slow down as Marinette’s eyes widened in shock, her grip tightening on Damien’s hand as they both toppled over the low barrier and into the enclosure.

Gasps filled the air as their classmates realized what had happened. Alya, Adrien, and the others shouted for help, frantically running to find a zookeeper. But inside the enclosure, Damien’s only thought was protecting Marinette.

He quickly positioned himself in front of her, his body a shield against the panther named Shuri, who was now aware of the intruders in her territory. Marinette clung to Damien’s back, her heart pounding in her chest as she stared at the sleek black cat approaching them.

But what happened next stunned them both.

Instead of attacking, Shuri’s menacing stance softened. She sniffed at the pair, then circled them curiously, her tail flicking in what could only be described as a playful manner. To the shock of everyone watching, the panther began to nuzzle against Damien, purring loudly as if she were a mere house cat.

Marinette and Damien exchanged incredulous looks. The danger had passed as quickly as it had begun, and now they found themselves in a bizarre, almost surreal situation. Tentatively, Damien reached out, and Shuri responded by rubbing her head against his hand, her large eyes closing in contentment. Marinette giggled, her fear melting away as she followed Damien’s lead, stroking Shuri’s sleek fur.

By the time the zookeepers arrived, it was clear that the panther had no intention of harming the pair. Instead, she had become fiercely protective, growling at anyone who dared approach too quickly. It took some time, but with careful handling, the zookeepers managed to escort Marinette and Damien out of the enclosure.

The incident left everyone in a state of shock. As the classes reconvened, the Gotham students—who had always been wary of Lila—began to question her actions. Why had she been standing so close to the edge? Why had Marinette and Damien fallen so suddenly? Whispers of suspicion began to spread, fueled by the fact that Lila was the only one who had been near them.

Back at the school, the truth finally came to light. Security footage from the zoo revealed Lila’s deliberate push, and her classmates from Paris could no longer ignore the overwhelming evidence against her. The façade she had carefully built crumbled as her lies about knowing celebrities and other grandiose claims were exposed.

Lila was arrested, facing charges of attempted murder and slander. Alya, who had once been her biggest supporter, was devastated. Her blog, filled with unverified stories and lies, was taken down, and she faced legal repercussions for the damage her posts had caused. Adrien, who had known about Lila’s lies but had chosen to stay silent, was sent to live with another relative, his father deciding that his failure to act had serious consequences. The students who had bullied Marinette were given detention and sued for their actions.

As for Ms. Bustier and the principal, their roles in the corruption and wrongful expulsion of Marinette were brought to light. They were fired, their reputations in ruins, and faced further investigations into their conduct.

With her innocence proven and her tormentors exposed, Marinette decided to leave Paris behind. She obtained a restraining order against her former classmates and made the bold choice to move to Gotham permanently. There, she would start a new life with Damien by her side, free from the pain and betrayal she had endured for so long.

As she walked away from the school for the last time, hand in hand with Damien, Marinette felt a sense of peace. The people who had hurt her would finally face the consequences of their actions, while she could finally move forward into a brighter future.

And somewhere in Gotham Zoo, a panther named Shuri watched over her new friends, her golden eyes filled with a protective light.

Chapter 2: Naming the Next Generation

Several months had passed since the incident at the Gotham Zoo, and life for Marinette and Damien had settled into a new, comfortable rhythm. The scars from Paris were healing, and with each passing day, Marinette found herself more in love with the city—and with Damien. Their bond had only grown stronger, and their relationship was filled with shared moments of quiet understanding and mutual respect.

Today was a special day. The couple had been invited back to the zoo, not just as visitors, but as honored guests. The zookeepers had contacted them with exciting news: Shuri, the panther who had once protected them, had given birth to a litter of six cubs—three girls and three boys. But that wasn’t all. The cubs had taken a particular liking to Marinette and Damien, just as their mother had.

As they approached the panther enclosure, Marinette couldn’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia. It was here that everything had changed for her, where she and Damien had first faced danger together. Now, she was returning not with fear, but with excitement.

“Ready?” Damien asked, his hand interlacing with hers.

Marinette nodded, a soft smile on her lips. “More than ready.”

They were greeted by the head zookeeper, a middle-aged man with a warm smile. “Thank you for coming,” he said. “Shuri and her cubs are waiting for you. We’re going to give the cubs their first checkup today, and we were hoping you could help us keep them calm.”

Marinette’s eyes sparkled with excitement. “Of course! We’d love to help.”

As they entered the enclosure, they were met by the sight of Shuri lounging in the shade, her six cubs playfully tumbling over one another. The sight melted Marinette’s heart instantly. The cubs were small and fluffy, their bright eyes filled with curiosity and mischief. They were the very picture of innocence.

Shuri lifted her head as they approached, her gaze softening as she recognized them. Marinette crouched down, holding out her hand. Shuri responded by rubbing her head against Marinette’s palm, purring softly.

“Hello, beautiful,” Marinette murmured, stroking Shuri’s sleek fur. “Your babies are adorable.”

Damien, meanwhile, had knelt down beside one of the cubs, who was batting at his shoelace with tiny paws. He chuckled, gently picking up the cub, who immediately curled up in his arms, purring contentedly.

“The vet is ready when you are,” the zookeeper said, watching the scene with a smile.

Marinette and Damien nodded, and with Shuri watching protectively from a distance, they helped guide the cubs into the examination area. The little ones seemed surprisingly calm, perhaps sensing the familiarity and safety in the presence of the couple. One by one, the cubs were weighed, examined, and given their vaccines. There were a few tiny yelps, but Marinette and Damien’s soothing voices kept them calm.

Once the checkup was complete, the zookeeper turned to the couple with a grin. “Now, I believe it’s time for the most important part. With Shuri’s permission, of course, we’d like you to name the cubs.”

Marinette’s eyes widened with surprise and joy. She looked over at Shuri, who seemed to give a slow, approving blink, as if giving her blessing. Marinette looked up at Damien, her heart swelling with emotion. “What do you think?”

Damien smiled down at her, his gaze soft. “I think we should name them together.”

The first cub, a little girl with a mischievous glint in her eye, was named Luna by Marinette, inspired by the moonlight that often lit up their late-night strolls through Gotham. Damien agreed with the name, knowing how much Marinette loved the night sky.

The second cub, a boy with a strong, silent demeanor, was named Shadow by Damien, reflecting both his own dark past and the protective nature he shared with the cub.

The third cub, a gentle girl who seemed to have a particular fondness for cuddling, was named Belle by Marinette, after the beauty and grace she embodied.

The fourth cub, a rambunctious boy who had already shown a tendency to pounce on anything that moved, was named Ace by Damien, after Gotham’s own Bat-Hound and his childhood companion.

The fifth cub, a curious girl who was constantly exploring her surroundings, was named Nova by Marinette, after the stars that had guided her through so many sleepless nights in Paris.

And finally, the sixth cub, a boy with a strong sense of loyalty who had stuck close to his mother throughout the day, was named Valor by Damien, a name that symbolized the courage both he and Marinette had found in each other.

With the cubs now named, the zookeeper thanked them for their help, and Marinette and Damien took a moment to say their goodbyes. The cubs, now tired from the excitement of the day, nuzzled against their legs before retreating to their mother’s side. Shuri watched them with calm, proud eyes, giving Marinette and Damien one last affectionate nuzzle before lying down with her cubs.

As they left the enclosure, Marinette squeezed Damien’s hand, her heart full. “I’m so glad we got to do this,” she said softly.

“Me too,” Damien replied, his voice equally tender. “It’s moments like these that remind me how much I love being with you.”

Marinette smiled, leaning into him as they walked away from the zoo. The sun was setting, casting a golden glow over Gotham. It was a perfect end to a perfect day, and as they looked back at the zoo one last time, they knew they’d always cherish the bond they had with Shuri and her cubs—a bond that had brought them even closer together.
