Runes of Ashes (general ideas)

Summary:

(Inspired by Dusttale and Deltarune)

Imagine what someone would do to change destiny.
To make their choices truly matter.

How far would they go?
How far would you go, just to see a single change?

The answer here… is simple.
Far enough.

Far enough to shatter everything, until nothing remains but dust, blood… and ice.

(Just a bunch of ideas stuck together with tape and without much development because I had no idea what I was doing, but I've already started the real story, which is the second part of the work, so... go ahead, read that one instead.)

Notes:

Deltarune, Undertale, and Dusttale don't belong to me; all credit goes to their creators.

(P.S. I originally speak Spanish, but I'll use a translator to translate this "little story")

(So... because there's no such thing as gender neutral in Spanish, the translation probably sounds weird in some places. I tried to correct most of it, but if I couldn't, I'm sorry.

(P.S2: I change the Name)

Chapter 1: Frozen Genocide

Chapter Text

https://youtu.be/yByFSu9AEIM?si=ODouRvXuE0SSGvBP

(the song that gave me the inspiration for this history)

It all started with a soul and a discarded vessel.

Someone had taken it from them, and in its place, it had been placed in a human. A rebellious human, who would always go against what he said, against their wishes, even when they were genuinely cooperative.

They never listened, and never would. They were he's cage, he's jailer, he's prison.

And he refused to accept it.

From then on, he was searching for a way to change things. He's destiny, he's situation, he's vessel. To be able to do whatever he wanted without anyone restraining them. And for that, They needed a new vessel, an obedient one, a powerful one...

And they found it.

At first, it was subtle. They had her current vessel's childhood friend attack some Darkners in Cybercity with ice magic, curious to see what would happen.

To he's surprise... the Darkners were frozen... and Noelle grew stronger.

That gave Them an idea, and from there, the first killing spree began.

Every death made her stronger, every object made her stronger, every action made her stronger.

And when they used her to freeze their classmate... they realized she was what they needed.

The vessel resisted. They tried to go against it, tried to repair the "damage" they had done.

But it wasn't enough. They figured it out and reinserted the thorn into the girl's finger, knowing she was now almost completely under their control.

They just needed a chance to separate themselves from the human and join her. Where they would finally be free.

And when did the time come?

Nothing could stop them.

The broken cage, the first hero, who even regained their original soul...

The girl, the second hero, the one with her heart crossed in hope...

The roaring knight, the one who created dark fountains wherever he stood...

No one could stop him. They all succumbed to the cold, or to the cut of his twisted sword.

Yet despite everything... it wasn't enough to change the ending.

Despite his efforts... the End was the same as always.

It made him realize... he needed to go further. To push the limits of this world to the maximum... all in order to obtain something new.

And with some help from the one who brought them here in the first place... they managed to change vessels from day one.

And then it began.

Dark world after dark world. Enemy after enemy. It didn't matter their nature, monster, human, lightners, or darkners.

None could stop him.

And though his vessel tried to resist at first, he showed her the truth. He showed her how they were growing stronger, more confident, more everything. He showed her how, working together, they could go further than anyone would ever be able to.

And after several genocides, after several resets, after several displays of what they were capable of together...

She gave in. And finally, the SOUL replaced the original soul. Their wills united, and something new was born.

An Angel... Of death. A monster with a human soul, whose sole mission is to destroy and reboot the world over and over again... in the hope that something different will happen next time.

There will be no more vessel and soul. There was no more Noelle Holliday.

There was only Him.

But in the midst of it all, there was someone else. Cursed by knowledge, always trying to stop him.

The third hero, the prince, Alone in the darkness

He tried to talk to them. He tried to convince them to stop.

They never listened, no matter how much he screamed and begged.

And even though he tried to fight, unleashing his full power...

It wasn't enough. They would always emerge victorious, and reboot to begin a new genocide.

But after dozens, and hundreds of these... after knowing that they would always come and destroy everything...

After so many resets, the prince began to remember the atrocities committed by the Angel...

Something broke in his mind.

He finally realized they weren't going to stop... and that there was no way to stop them conventionally...

That's why... he decided to break with everything. His morals, his mentality... his desires.

All with one goal.

To follow the same path the Angel is walking, to become stronger, in an attempt to compete against their strength and DETERMINATION, hoping to stop them.

They have shown that they are willing to go beyond their limits to get what they want...

Well...

The prince has decided that he should walk the same path as him...

To be able to stop this Frozen Genocide once and for all.

The End

Okay, as you can see, this is a mix of Deltarune and Dusttale.

It came to me out of nowhere, while I was listening to Dusttale music because of a video I just popped into. Kind of silly, but I just couldn't get it out of my head.

So I wrote it down and decided to post it to see what people thought.

And yes, as you can see, the idea is simple. Unrealistic? Maybe. But simple.

The game tells you that your actions don't matter.

Well, this soul has decided it doesn't like that. And it wants to break the game over and over again, in order to prove otherwise, that its decisions matter. To have A new ending. Or something new in general.

And yes, they needed Noelle for that. Kris would never cooperate, and Susie is Susie, so it was out of the question.

And with a little help from dear Gaster (who's simply enjoying the experiment that is "his deltarune"), the soul manages to join Noelle from chapter one, bringing with it "some memories" (basically, making her aware of the resets). Although she resisted at first, after dozens of resets and tempting phrases, the girl's will was reshaped, and she ended up "merging" with the soul.

So, no. There's no way to save Noelle anymore, because Noelle is YOU (i mean, the Player/Soul/Angel)

Now they're the same person.

And yes, taking advantage of the fact that Ralsei is one of the characters apparently aware of the player. I chose him as the "sans" of this idea.

Poor thing.

Anyway, you can imagine what would happen next, but since I don't know how to animate, draw, or program, well... here it is.

An interesting idea, and let it be remembered that I came up with it first... or not, but I am the first to write something about it!

Anyway, that's all, see you!

(P.S. You might think Gaster wouldn't agree with your actions, but to be fair, I doubt it. After all, this is happening in only one of the three save files.)

Chapter 2: how it all begins

Summary:

a small continuation of the idea because otherwise, I can't sleep xd.

Chapter Text

(Uh, I really hadn't thought about continuing this story... buuuut, I couldn't help it, I felt like expanding on this a little more, so... let's just say this is the beginning!

Basically, a sample of how I imagine the beginning of "Frozen Rune", I mean, Ralsei's had enough.

So, let's see how it turns out. It won't be too long, but I really wanted to expand on this a little more, so...

Here we go.)

You walked through the school hallways with slow but steady steps, your shoes clicking on the floor.

It had always struck you as odd that after the union, your vessel had taken on certain more human-like features, like a squarer face and more human-like legs.

Not that it mattered. But it seemed like a nice touch.

If only they were of more use than usual.

Pfff, this wasn't the time to get frustrated; you had to hurry. It would only be a matter of minutes before Susie and Kris reached Ralsei's dark world and began their adventure. Of course, it would be much more difficult without you, but they could still take some of your victims.

And since you couldn't just kill them, because you needed them (and because fighting them was always fun), you were in a race against time.

A speedrun to make you stronger. After all, to gain something new to experience. For something to change and not just be a "standstill," it would be necessary to push your limits. Something pacifism never allowed you.

You had tried in the past, a long time ago. It wasn't enough for you.

You removed the memories and stood in front of the closet door. Without hesitation, you opened it, seeing darkness emerge from it, and without hesitation, you jumped in.

As always, you felt your blond hair rise through the air, the tips turning blue, while your clothes changed. You remembered that in the past, it was just a white dress. But after the union, it changed. In addition to the white dress, you had white, gray, and red shoulder pads. Red also spread across the dress like rivers, curiously forming a red heart near your chest.

Your shoes became boots, and a pair of white pants replaced your green ones.

Very useful for those moments of falling or climbing.

Finally, two pairs of red wings sprouted from your back, and a halo of the same color projected over your head, finally landing in the superhero pose.

A smile formed on your lips, while your red eyes shone brightly.

You looked at your stats again.

Okay, now you could continue.

You walked quickly through the rocky wasteland, brushing aside the piles of dust you encountered without any problem.

However, it wasn't long before you began to notice something odd.

By this point, Lancer should have already appeared and attacked, yet... nothing.

A feeling began to stir inside you.

Curiosity.

You needed to know what was happening. Never in your hundreds of restarts had something like this happened... and it excited you.

For the first time, something had changed. You just hoped that whatever had happened would finally give you a new and completely satisfying experience.

So you picked up your pace, practically running at this point. Down the mountain ramps, until you reached CastleTown.

Where Ralsei wasn't.

More mystery, more excitement.

Your smile never stopped growing as you walked deeper into the castle.

Ralsei was nowhere to be seen, neither was Lancer.

And finally, the gate leading to the forest was padlocked.

Not that it stopped you. Iceshock froze the gate, and your sword cut through it like paper.

And with the gates destroyed, you ventured deeper into the forest, where the sights you encountered...

Would have made you smile even more, if you weren't already smiling as wide as your face would allow.

Ashes everywhere. Burn marks... and the likely remnants of Darkners scattered about.

Something had happened, something powerful with Fire Magic...

You could only think of one culprit, and the thought of what happened almost made you want to jump in excitement and anticipation, but you forced yourself to maintain your composure as you walked deeper into the forest.

Although the prince had done a decent job of slaughtering everyone, and even sabotaged the puzzles to slow you down. It was clear he was in a hurry, some more indirect routes where there would normally be nothing were ignored. Which, in addition to leaving a few small chests for you...

*You cast IceShock.

It also left a few enemies for you to take down.

Enough so that...

*You grew stronger.

You grew a little stronger.

Besides, Ralsei didn't bother taking the pieces to face Jevil. Maybe because he knew he couldn't defeat the secret boss on their own, not yet.

Or maybe because he didn't have an "inventory" like you did.

You had no idea, but you didn't care.

More for you. The fountain would remain open as long as you didn't close it; you had time.

You moved quickly through the dead forest. Eliminating a few secrets here and there (you were able to get the egg) and a few hidden enemies that you turned into Pallet, it seemed the prince did a good job with his "genocide."

But not well enough, either because he didn't actively search for everyone... or because apparently, some had managed to escape from him... but not from you.

Although sadly, this caused the landscape to begin to become more "icy" as more blocks of ice emerged.

A shame, the "burned" state suited the forest better.

But apparently ice was stronger than fire, right?

I mean... it even put out a small fire that had been left in one part of the forest.

It seemed that, as a Ralsei, he probably wasn't drawn into a "fight" like he was. His combat style was more "destructive."

A big detail... that quickly became insignificant. After several minutes of traveling and killing, the wait was killing you. So, using your wings, you gained more speed while gliding along the path, wondering how far he could have gone in... about an hour, which was roughly the difference between the opening of the fountain and your arrival.

The answer was, quite a bit... but not enough.

Because just outside the King's castle, you could see Ralsei using his Fire Magic to turn his enemy to ash.

The prince stopped. He probably heard you arriving, but he didn't turn to look at you.

How rude of him.

-I thought I'd have more time before you arrived... I guess I was wrong-. You heard Ralsei speak, while you looked at his new outfit.

His dress was gone, replaced by a green and maroon suit. His wizard hat was now black with the top half etched in red.

Likewise, his scarf was now blue, not the typical red.

A curious choice of colors and attire, but it was clear that at least this outfit was much better made for combat than the previous one.

-...Can I ask you something?-. You heard Ralsei speak, but you didn't say anything. Instead, you just looked at him with your usual expression.

He didn't turn to look at you, but he still interpreted your silence as a way to continue.

-...How can you do this... without a shred of remorse? The screams, the pleas... I hear them, and I remember them... Lancer... I...-. His voice cracked a little. So he had killed Lancer, huh? That explained why he wasn't here.

It almost made you feel sorry for him.

Almost.

-No... that was a stupid question, wasn't it? Someone like you... would never feel remorse. You only need to look at what you did to Noelle... what you turned her into... you were supposed to be an Angel... but you're closer to being a Demon-. He spoke again, while you could notice him looking at you out of the corner of your eye.

Oddly enough, you could feel your body tremble involuntarily.

Noelle didn't seem to like the comment.

Heh, you weren't going to blame him for offending her. He'd never understand how your union happened. It's not just that "you broke Noelle." Oh no, if it had been just that. You wouldn't be so strong.

You simply brought her to her senses, showed her what you were capable of, and molded her will and vision to resemble yours. To such a degree that one was indistinguishable from the other.

And when you replaced her original soul, you evolved. They were no longer "Noelle and the Soul."

It was just you.

-You've come so far... you've destroyed this world so many times, only to restart and destroy it again... that even, in a way, you managed to make me start remembering your actions, your genocides... and I... I hate you, with every bit of my soul... but I'm also grateful for it-. Ralsei spoke, finally turning around.

His gaze seemed dead. Far from the passive, joyful, even charming look he used to have.

There were bags under his eyes, and his cheeks were blotchy.

Perhaps that's why he hadn't been able to destroy the entire dark world before you arrived. He spent some time busy crying before he began the killing spree.

His loss.

-I thank you... because now I know there's no way to stop you. You're a heartless monster who won't listen to reason. And you're strong enough to fight Kris, Susie, and me all at once, and come out unscathed... and even if we killed you... you would just try again-. He spoke, while, to be honest, you were a little surprised.

This felt all too familiar to you with a certain skeleton you once knew.

And you loved it.

You couldn't help but wait to see what he was capable of.

-But... I can't give up... If I do, you'll just continue this senseless Genocide, for who knows how long... So, even if it costs me everything I ever was... I'm going to stop you... Maybe not now, or in the near future... But I swear as a prince... that I'm going to find a way to stop you... But until then? I'll give you a bad time... for each and every one of your sins. - The goat boy spoke angrily, while summoning a ball of fire in his hands.

In response, you just drew your sword and pointed it at him.

You knew what would happen next...

It was time to prove how much the prince had grown after his little Genocide.

And oh boy...

You were going to enjoy this...

Like no one could have imagined.

The end.

So, like I said, a small expansion, which is why it's so "brief" and not very explanatory.

It's just a small expansion of what I imagine Chapter 1 of this history would be like.

And yes, Kris and Susie would arrive shortly after but wouldn't find anything until the fountain was sealed.

Without Ralsei, or the player guiding them, they'd probably both be stuck at first, and it would take them too long to reach the castle, and by that point, everyone should already be dead.

And yep. This would probably cause Kris to have a mini-panic attack when They realized something had gone horribly wrong with the knight's plan.

Anyway, with any luck, this won't drive me crazy and will give me more desire to keep writing. I can't think of how to continue...

Good thing I didn't accidentally make an entire story into an AU, which, in reality, can only be properly enjoyed through art (of any kind), not words.

Anyway, see you now, yeah. Bye!

(Yes, sans references at the End. Sorry)

Chapter 3: Vs Ralsei Act 1

Summary:

(Okay, I give up. There's no "limit" to what I can do, just when I think I've had enough. For some reason, a new idea comes to me, and well... that's how it goes.

So. Seeing as there's a chance this will keep getting updated over time, I won't try to close it, and it'll always remain sort of like "a book where I write down my thoughts on a Deltarune Au," or something. It's not a fic per se. But I can't just stop for some reason.

Anyway, let's continue, enjoy what I imagine the "first act" of the fight would be like.)

Chapter Text

A familiar feeling washed over you as you were dragged into the now-familiar combat box.

*Ralsei attacks you!

Hmmm, let's go all out, huh? Good, you wanted to test how he fared at this point.

Normally, due to how the story worked and his own personality, this fight would only happen up to Asgore's world. And while without you, they were considerably weaker than they would have been, His fire magic was a good way to counter your ice magic.

It reduced the effectiveness of IceShock and could remove the freezing effects from Kris and Susie (unless it was Snowgrave). Normally, you'd have to kill him first with the Twisted Sword to be able to freeze the other two.

Or use a spell, which would take you a while to learn, that would chill him and remove his fire magic for about 10 turns.

Though you only did that if you wanted to turn the trio into frozen statues. Normally, you'd just kill the prince and freeze the other two.

But now? Ralsei had done something you'd never dreamed he'd be capable of. And you'd be damned if you wanted to see how it affected him.

*Ralsei, the lonely prince in the darkness.

*ATK 20

*DEF 12

*He's not ready to face you yet.

*He can feel his actions piercing his soul.

Oh? That was... interesting. As you guessed, more attack and defense... but still at this point in the story, the prince didn't stand a chance against you.

To be honest, you doubted he would without something like a dark crystal or a secret boss artifact.

And to be honest? Just like the description said, he wasn't ready for that yet.

But still, you wanted to see what had changed.

-...No matter how much I think about it. I just can't understand it-. Ralsei began, before finally attacking.

Simple start: fireballs came from several sides. You dodged them without problem, and although you thought this start would be weak, a sudden warning made you move quickly.

Shortly after, a fireball larger than the rest appeared where you had been and exploded, throwing three rounds of fireballs in all directions.

Wow, first turn and already with surprises? Damn, you were proud of the prince.

*smells like ashes

You looked at your TP bar, 14%. You considered trying Iceshock, but first you wanted to see how much damage you could do with the wooden sword. So without hesitation you went to the fight option and aimed.

You made a perfect.

*Miss.

...!

He simply moved out of the way of the attack...

Oh yeah...

-...if there's one silver lining I can take from these memories... it's that I know that if I want to have a chance, I must avoid being hit at all costs. And luckily, I remember enough fights to know how to dodge you-. Ralsei spoke. A slight hint of pride in his almost flat, shaky voice.

He seemed still focused. His actions still made it difficult for him to act calmly.

Just like your description said.

Now it was his turn, and this time, he started with large fireballs moving slowly up and down, while releasing smaller fireballs that then shot out from left to right.

You didn't have much trouble, but a couple of sudden warnings caught you off guard and almost got hit. However, you were able to dodge them without a problem, and fortunately, the lower right corner was a dead center for the attack.

Thus, Ralsei's attack ended, while your soul returned to Noelle.

*Your fur turns damp with sweat.

This time, without hesitation, you went to act, and you chose IceShock.

*Miss.

Hmm, I could have predicted IceShock too, huh? Well, it would be a shame if that ended it.

-But, back to what I said before... I don't get it... what motivation could someone have to do... this? What you've done?-. The prince spoke again, as you once again went to the combat box.

This time, immediately upon arriving, a warning appeared in the middle of where he was, causing him to move down.

Then, four warnings appeared in the corners. And again, he was forced to move to avoid the rain of fireballs.

Only for, standing in the middle, fireballs to rain down from above, while four more warnings, this time from the sides, came out.

An interesting combination of attacks. As always, you avoided them all.

Hmm, not bad so far. Better than you expected from him... but still pretty insignificant.Incredible even compared to what he himself would do in the future.

You hoped it would change, or this would quickly get boring.

*You can feel cold and hot at the same time.

❤️Fight.

*Miss

-An endless genocide. Turning the world into a snowy grave... only to reset and start a new massacre-. the prince continued, as his turn began.

To your surprise, a rectangular warning covering half the box appeared. You immediately climbed to the top of the box, as a sea of flames erupted from below.

Now with only half the arena left, new fireballs came from above, with a pair of warnings from the large flaming spheres at opposite ends of your box.

This time, you wouldn't deny that you had more difficulty dodging. With the bottom half a sea of flames, you had to be more careful if you didn't want to get hit.

Even so, you managed it, and once it was your turn, you attacked without hesitation.

*The air feels heavy.

❤️Fight

*Miss

-For what? Power? You already had it. Satisfaction? There were things far more satisfying than this. Curiosity?... is that isn't it?-. The prince spoke again.

Uhhh, yes. You assumed it was mostly curiosity. But there was also a bit of the other two... and there was also a bit of simply "it's the most interesting path, because it's the only one that's allowed me to get this far."

Though you're sure that part of that falls under the satisfaction section.

Anyway, his turn began, and this time, the warnings came rapidly from above and below, barely leaving a line in the middle untouched.

You didn't move. And soon after, a sea of flames came from both sides.

They stood still for a few seconds, before the one below began to descend slightly. And instinctively, you descended as well.

Correct idea, the one above it grew even more. And if you hadn't moved, it would have hit you.

So, like a tidal wave, huh? Something familiar.

As you danced between the two attacks, small flames began to fall from above, forcing you to move sideways now as well.

And the attack ended when, on both your left and right, three warnings appeared in the same place.

Three fireballs, one overlapping the previous one, appeared on each side, and just as the wave attack disappeared, the spheres exploded, releasing the small flames. But you were able to avoid them by moving down just a little.

*You can hear the castle being reinforced.

Hmmm, wow. That would make things a little more difficult. Although it might also speed up the process of getting stronger.

❤️Fight.

*Miss.

-Of course it was curiosity... to you, lightners and darkners are the same... toys to try and break until you get bored, right? That's why you keep doing this... breaking and rebuilding the world over and over again... because you want to see something happen-. Ralsei said, a hollow smile on his face.

Some of what he said, yes. But it wasn't the only reason.

This was the most fun way, because the fights were pretty awesome.

Your soul was pulled back into the box, where it was immediately bombarded by small flames, and again by the large fireballs that moved slowly up and down.

However, this time a warning came from below, forcing you to climb up so you wouldn't get caught in the sea of fireballs.

But you were only there for a few seconds, when the top also received the same warning, forcing you to climb down.

Fortunately for you, the lower one began to disappear as the upper sea began to emerge. But even so, for a second you tensed, you wouldn't lie.

The timing was pretty spot on. But again, intact.

*You hear the flames resonate around you.

❤️Act.

❤️IceShock.

*Miss

Nope, it's not working yet.

-For a long time... I thought like you. That darkners were only supposed to satisfy the lightners and then be discarded... but Susie and Kris... they taught me it shouldn't be that way, right?-. He continued his monologue, while you simply focused on dodging.

It was a similar attack to the first one he did, only this time, the fireballs moving around the box were faster. The warnings from the larger fiery spheres manifested several times.

You counted a total of 6.

Compared to the first version, it was harder, but still not a real challenge.

To be honest, you were starting to get a little bored.

Sure, the whole situation was interesting, but as your Check said, Ralsei wasn't ready to face you yet.

Even so. You'd wait a little longer before using your special trick to hit him. You wanted to finish hearing his monologue.

*The Prince judges you with his gaze.

❤️Fight.

*Miss

-though not now... throughout the resets, and even without you. They taught me that I was more than just an object to be used and thrown away... and now, it's my duty to return that favor by stopping you from doing the same to them-. Ralsei's voice rose a little as he spoke.

He seems determined, and quite focused on the fight.

Very well then, let's see if he can keep his word. It would be quite disappointing to give all that speech and then do nothing.

Ralsei's attack began once again.

This time, however, you were pleasantly surprised when warnings came from all directions, and in a moment, you were trapped in the middle, surrounded by the prince's seas of flame.

You quickly figured out what to do and began moving with the waves, as fireballs rained down from above at high speed.

This attack was tricky, and you weren't going to deny it. There was very little room to move, and if you positioned yourself poorly, you'd either be hit by the fireballs or be hit by the flames surrounding you.

This continued for a bit longer, until finally the seas stilled and began to grow, leaving you trapped in a single small hollow in the middle of it all.

But just as the attack began to recede, you saw Ralsei begin to spin.

You quickly moved out of the way as a white circle appeared where you'd been. It emitted a few sparks, which you easily dodged.

So, physical attacks too? He'd never done that in any previous reset.

Fascinating.

-And even, maybe... if a part of the Angel I knew long ago is there... if some of Noelle is still there... maybe... no... they're long gone-  He seemed to want to say something, but stopped at the last moment.

Ralsei was too optimistic. To the point that even now, you seemed to wish things could go back to the way they were.

A small part of you wondered for a moment... if what you'd done was worth it.

You looked down at your hairy hands holding your weapon. Hands you would never have had if you hadn't done what you did.

You looked down at your clothes and wings, signs of what you had become. Something beyond what you would normally be.

And you looked at your opponent, a character who, thanks to you, had completely stepped out of character.

You smiled...

Yes, it had been completely worth it. If you had never gone this far, you would never have been able to experience what you're experiencing, so many changes, so many surprises...

And who knows what secrets this world still holds, waiting to be seen and explored. And let's not even talk about those things that, for whatever reason, you weren't yet able to change.

There was still so much to do and discover. You just needed to keep moving forward.

You'd already gone too far, it wasn't time to stop.

*Smells like Determination.

-...I don't know why I keep trying to talk to you... when you made your intentions clear a long time ago... but still... Noelle, if there's still some of you in there... I'm so sorry-. The prince spoke sadly, and you couldn't help but laugh a little.

He was in for a big surprise.

Your soul was pulled back into the box. And it started with a rain of fire.

You dodged it without much trouble, as several alerts arose throughout the arena. From below, a sea of fire began to rise, while from the sides, large spheres appeared and exploded.

To top it off, Ralsei spun, throwing a punch. Then he did it again, and again, and again.

5 physical attacks, amidst the chaos of the box.

But still, you came out unscathed.

After all, hundreds of fights did that to people.

But the attack wasn't over.

After the sea of fire disappeared, an alert crossed half the arena. Seconds later, a torrent of flames split the box in half, as fireballs shot out randomly.

Another warning came shortly after, this time coming from top to bottom, and again, a torrent of fire erupted.

Finally, two warnings came out at once, from bottom to top and from right to left.

You moved to a corner, while dodging the fireballs that sailed across the field. Until finally, the flames stopped, and the prince spun around one last time.

Another blow, probably trying to catch you off guard. But it failed miserably.

*your skin burns.

❤️Act.

❤️IceShock.

*Miss.

-...-. Oh? Nothing to say this time.

It seems the Prince has finally run out of words.

Well, you were going to wait an extra turn to see if he'd say anything else.

If he didn't, you'd end this.

Ralsei's attack erupted.

This time, it started similarly to his fourth turn, with a sea of fire rising from below. Only now, it was combined with the torrents of fire, and the rest of the attacks were more numerous.

And as you expected, the prince tried to surprise you with a physical attack in the middle of your dodges.

Nice try, kid, but no success.

*the prince winced slightly.

❤️Fight.

*Miss

This time, not even Ralsei's text bubble appeared when he launched his attack.

It started with several warnings of torrents of fire at your position, forcing you to move to the side.

Then again, back to where you were, forcing you to once again dodge while dodging the straggling fireballs.

By the third wave of torrents, you felt a familiarity with those blaster gasters the comedian used to use. While the torrents clearly couldn't be spammed like the skeleton's, the fact that they released fireballs made up for it somewhat.

Finally, a total of eight warnings of torrents of fire coming from all sides forced you to move into a very confined space, while you could barely dodge the small fireballs that remained.

After a few seconds, the torrents ended, and you immediately began to move, dodging the attempted physical attacks and the large spheres of fire that appeared and exploded across the arena.

Then, four rectangular warnings covered almost the entire arena, and you immediately headed to the center as the seas of flames erupted.

Now that you were trapped in that small square, multiple warnings of the flaming spheres appeared around you, which appeared and exploded, releasing the small fireballs that you barely dodged in your small chamber.

Finally, and as he tried once before, he tried to sneak up on you while you were distracted.

He failed, and finally, Ralsei's turn ended.

Whew, you didn't deny it—that last attack was intense. And it seemed even the prince himself was getting tired, if the sweat that seemed to run down his forehead was any indication.

That, or it could just be the heat.

Anyway, this fight had already gone on for quite a while. Ralsei had improved quite a bit compared to what he should have been; the EXP and memories had helped him quite a bit.

However, you still couldn't really consider him at the level of a secret boss. Although, perhaps, he could be at the level of a normal boss.

More or less.

If he got a little stronger, you could see him being at the level of a boss, at least in threat level, thanks to the fact that he could dodge attacks.

But for the moment, he was still pretty blue.

So, let's end this with a little surprise for him.

*You can feel your heart beating.

❤️Fight.

As expected, Ralsei moved, dodging the blow. However...

*Noelle cast IceShock.

-139 HP.

A magical attack from Noelle struck him right where he stood, easily sapping away most of his health. Barely leaving any left, as he fell to one knee.

Though what surprised you wasn't just that he survived.

It was that you'd done considerably less damage than you should have, even with the penalty IceShock suffers from Ralsei's Fire magic, and higher Def than he have, because he was more prepared to fight, you expected to do more damage

That meant something... that blue scarf you'd never seen before had something special about it. Maybe a reduction in magic or ice damage?

You don't know, but it's definitely an interesting last-minute surprise.

-Y-you... how? How did you... n-no... N-Noelle?-. Her initially incredulous voice quickly changed to a scared one.

And then. After a few moments of silence... a faint laugh.

-Ha.. hahaha! Of course... of course... you... you never broke Noelle.... not like one would think... you molded her... and made her a part of you.. but... but she still exists right?.. like an extension of you. Ha.. hahaha! That... that explains how you're so strong... you turned her into your perfect vessel... one aligned to your will... to your mind... to your Determination-. The Prince began, while noticing how he looked at you or rather, looked at your vessel with a look that went between pity, a morbid amusement, and something that seemed like guilt. At least, before shaking his head and sighing heavily.

-Heh... how funny... for a moment I thought I could delay you longer... maybe even long enough for Kris and Susie to catch up to us but... no... I still don't stand a single chance against you right?... I-I couldn't even land a hit on you the whole fight and you... With a single shot... you almost killed me-. The prince spoke with pain, and even a hint of amusement. But it seemed more like his laughter and amusement were directed at himself, at his naiveté.

-I knew you were strong... but... I didn't think the difference would be that great... not yet... I... ugh-. The prince groaned, summoning a green sphere in his hands.

+80 HP

Oh? Better healing. You supposed that made sense.

The prince stood, stunned. But in much better condition than before.

However. One more IceShock would still finish him off, and he himself seemed conscious.

-Heh... I guess you win again... I still need to get stronger... if I wish to even face you... in that case, I'll have to keep going... there's not much left to get out of this dark world... See you later, Angel... I hope you burn in hell-. Ralsei blurted, with some venom in his voice in that last bit, as he turned around, and silently, though limping a little, began to walk away, leaving your field of vision.

*Ralsei has fled.

*You win!

*You have received 70 gold.

You returned to your normal vision, while brushing the ash and frost off your clothes.

You looked ahead, and you couldn't see the prince anywhere. He had probably headed for the castle, or the forest. You didn't know, but now you were satisfied.

This wasn't the end. You could imagine it; Ralsei still had the conviction to stop you, and you wholeheartedly supported his mission.

It would give you plenty of entertainment for the roughly eight Dark Worlds left.

Sure, normally the Prince wouldn't make it past Asgore's, but you had a feeling this time would be very different.

Anyway, it was fun, but you had things to do.

*File saved!

To start, backtrack and look for the last piece for Jevil's prison.

You hadn't seen Seam or the guy who would fix the key for you on your entire journey.

So, either they'd evacuated, or Ralsei had killed them...

Now that you think about it... you hardly saw any NPCs. So the Prince had definitely tried in multiple ways to delay your progress.

And you can imagine the castle would be the same or similar.

Well, you weren't worried; the secret bosses gave a lot of EXP for killing them, and besides... Defeating one would give you a title, and that would raise Noelle's level from 1 to 2.

So, despite Ralsei's efforts, you'd still come out pretty well. Sure, it would only be half of what you would have been if you'd completed the massacre on your own. But still a considerable level.

But that didn't take away from the fact that the prince had really changed quite a bit. Though, of course, you still saw certain familiar traits, like his affection for Kris and Susie, his sense of guilt, or how he couldn't bring himself to insult you outright, even though the lizard and the human would do so without hesitation.

Character stuff, you supposed.

All right, enough wasting time. You had a secret boss to freeze, a king to overthrow, and a fountain to seal.

With luck, you'd be home before lunch, and your mother wouldn't notice... although she'd still be mad at you for skipping class.

Nothing you haven't already faced... although before that. Maybe you should go get something to eat later. This little adventure has worked up a bit of an appetite, and you're not done yet.

Mmm, yeah, that's a good idea.

Anyway, time to go.

Although, as you quickly walk away to look for the missing piece of the key, you can't help but wonder if you'll run into the prince again. Or if he's gone into hiding or to find Susie and Kris.

Maybe a little of both.

But that would be a story for another time...

And you couldn't stop your red eyes from briefly shining, as your smile did too.

You were both expectant and excited by this new turn of events.

And you couldn't help but think about how it would all play out... and get excited at the new world of possibilities that had opened up before you, and you wanted to explore...

Every last drop of what it had to offer.

The end.

So, yes, this is the fight, short and relatively complicated for this point in the story. But unfortunately for Ralsei, he's facing a player who has played this icy genocide route hundreds of times. So, as expected, the player just managed to get a no-hit without much difficulty, and even hit the prince with his trump card.

There's probably some confusion about that, so to summarize:

The Angel is formed by the Soul (the player's representation in Deltarune) and Noelle.

After Noelle's mind and will aligned with the player's, and she fused with the soul 100% (replacing the girl's original soul), the player had complete and amplified control, basically making Noelle an extension of themselves (which is why they even refer to Carol as "Mom," because technically she is. At least in this world).

But that doesn't mean Noelle has been completely erased. She's now part of the player (by joining with the soul), and as a result, if needed, the player can separate Noelle's consciousness from their own and grant her autonomy.

After all, Noelle operates and thinks just like him. She's basically his "perfect partner." So it's impossible for her to betray him.

And yes, that's how she can go unnoticed in the light World. He simply gives Noelle back some of her autonomy and asks her to act as she used to. She obeys without question.

And thanks to that, too. Even if the soul separates, just like Kris, Noelle will be able to survive and act properly for a while (a couple of hours at most) more tired? Yes. But that's never stopped them.

So the only way someone would notice something's wrong is if they either knew Noelle very well, or noticed the small details (a more human-like face, although the difference is so small it's hard to notice unless you look at it for a long time, or her more human-like legs, but that's why she wears pants and shoes, to keep them from noticing her legs). If you're not part of that, then you'd hardly notice anything.

And unfortunately for everyone... the only three people who actually know Noelle well enough to have noticed are Kris (with whom she's barely interacted in years), Carol (who's usually out most of the day), and Rudy (who's in the hospital).

So yeah... by the time they realize she's no longer just Noelle, it's usually quite late. Whether it's during the Roaring itself or when the Angel has grown so strong that he retains some of his strength in the light world(even though he doesn't have magic).

Anyway, on that note, I think everything's clear now (probably not in the best way. But this isn't a fanfic per se, so it's not that bad. And well, in case I need it, I have a full scale on autonomy and how it works... maybe if I write a new extra chapter I'll add it), so... uh, yeah. That's all there is to detail.

At most, yes. Ralsei can now dodge. Because if he didn't, he'd die in 2 hits at this point.

And yep, Ralsei constantly tries to sabotage the player. In addition to eliminating enemies before him, also killing NPCs, destroying puzzles, and trying to delay him from facing Jevil (and other bosses later) as long as possible.

After all, this is an effective way to buy time to recover from fights and continue getting stronger.

Anyway, I think that's all for now. As I said at the beginning, if something comes to mind, I'll post it here. And who knows? If someday inspiration truly strikes, I might even turn it into a story.

Anyway, thanks for reading, see you later.

Chapter Text

(So... yes, we continue.

Only this time. From a different perspective.)

The prince sighed heavily as the charred remains of the Darkners scattered through the air.

His hands trembled, and his eyes were closed. He refused to look ahead. Not wanting to see what he had done.

Even so, he could feel the sensation when a sphere of blue light surrounded him for a few seconds. Taking away his fatigue.

He had grown stronger.

But even then, he knew it wasn't enough; his first fight with the Angel had proven that. Despite unleashing much of his arsenal, including attacks he had never used in his other lives, he couldn't even hit him.

And the angel was only Level 1, and had only been able to take out a fraction of the Darkners in the forest.

And yet... a single IceShock had been enough to nearly finish him off.

How pathetic, right? The truth is, he wasn't even sure how he'd lasted so long in other timelines. He didn't remember everything, only fragments.

But the fact that he could remember various things hundreds of times, like the fields filled with frozen Darkners, or his own death, was more than enough to give him a sense of what lay ahead.

Thanks to that, he also knew they'd tried practically everything. Hell, it seemed like on one occasion, they'd even allied with the Knight and summoned a Titan to face the Angel.

And yet, they lost. The Knight fled. The Angel continued. The Roaring eventually emerged, and in the end, the Angel destroyed the world, only to begin all over again.

Because the Angel had infinite attempts, and with each death, they would only learn how to move.

...

No, he couldn't give up. There had to be a way, to make a fight so difficult that it would make the Angel give up!

He had to do it, and it had to work, otherwise... Otherwise...

Otherwise...

No, it was going to work! He just had to get stronger! He wasn't just preventing the Angel from gaining power. But he himself was learning and improving!

It had to work! Everything he'd done couldn't be in vain! It couldn't!

...

Lancer...

Oh God... what was he doing? Why was he doing this? Why did things have to be this way?

Why did the Angel always refuse to listen?

He felt tears falling from his eyes; he hated it. He hated this; he wanted to cry, but doing so now would be a waste of time while the Angel kept moving forward.

Right now, they must be looking for a way to access Jevil. He'd made sure to sabotage their chance to confront the secret boss as much as possible. He doubted it would stop him forever, but at the very least, it should buy him enough time to take care of the King.

With all the power he had accumulated, it should be possible for him to single-handedly confront the King and win. Although he doubted it would be easy.

However, he couldn't stop... for the sake of the world... he couldn't... or this cycle would only continue for who knows how long.

Good heavens... he wished so much he could be spending time with Kris and Susie... as several of his memories showed him...

...!

-KRIS AND SUSIE!-. He shouted, realizing something. He had been so focused on taking advantage of Angel's retreat to enter the castle and gain power that he had completely forgotten that Kris and Susie might have already reached the forest.

He needed to find them before they found the Angel. As long as he had Noelle's body, he could pretend to be her and get them on his side, especially now that he knew Noelle was still there, even if her will was 100% at the Angel's will.

Still, he needed to plan things well. If he showed up and warned them directly about the Angel and Noelle, it would only turn them against him. Without being in a fight where the Angel was clearly the aggressor, there was no way he could make them hesitate with words alone. And picking a fight after talking to the two of them would only make him look like the attacker.

He had only one option left, one he hated. Lie.

He'd never liked lying, especially to his friends. But he'd always been good at it; his memories from other timelines told him he'd always been able to convince them.

But every time, it took time.

And right now, time is what he had the least of.

...

Okay, he had a plan. But he had to hurry.

Wiping the tears from his eyes and fur, the prince began to run at full speed back the way he had come, quickly passing through the castle entrance and entering the forest. The teleportation gate shouldn't be far away. With it, he could cut a lot of ground and-

-Oh no!-. he exclaimed in fear as he saw Noelle walking calmly. The deer stopped dead in her tracks when she saw him, and he did the same.

The memories of their last fight were still fresh in his mind. He had no chance, he hadn't become strong enough. If the Angel attacked him now, he-

*thud* *thud* *thud*

The sound of footsteps made him realize the Angel had started walking again, but not toward him, but toward the castle.

He had completely ignored it.

...

A feeling of relief washed over him, before shaking his head and continuing to run. The Angel probably considered it wasn't worth it to face him again, when the castle was so close.

And if he was heading there, it meant he'd found a way to fight the jester.

That was bad news. The fight shouldn't give him more than 20 minutes, less if he has no trouble opening the cell. It was fortunate the Angel didn't have Snowgrave yet, or the situation would be worse.

But even so, this meant he had to be even faster and more convincing with his words. He needed to return to the castle as quickly as possible to eliminate the remaining Darkners and the King before the Angel did.

Soon after, fortunately for him, he saw the fast travel gate, which he passed through without hesitation and left him just a couple of minutes from his castle.

When he reached it, he paused for a second to look at the hole left in the gate by the Angel. A feeling of unease washed over him, only for him to immediately smash it, preparing to try to imitate his old attitude as best he could.

He had to look friendly.

Entering his castle, the prince quickly inspected any signs of damage.

Fortunately for him, there was nothing. It seems the Angel wasted no time inspecting and had instead gone straight to the forest.

At the very least, his home was relatively untouched... that was good.

-Kris, what the hell is wrong with this place? It's like a freaking ghost valley. The castle is empty, the city was empty, even the road here was basically empty!-. A feeling of warmth flooded Ralsei when he heard Susie's voice.

It felt strange to have so much affection for someone he'd technically never met... but he had so many memories of their adventures together. Even if most of them were just fragments or blurry... that he simply couldn't help but consider them his best friends.

He took a breath and prepared himself.

-Ah! Heroes! I see you've finally arrived!-. the prince exclaimed happily as he left the hallway.

He saw the monster and the human immediately turn their heads toward him. Susie with clear distrust and surprise, and Kris, meanwhile. With her typical neutral face. Sort of, it was hard to tell without seeing his eyes.

How he loved them.

-Uh, and who the hell are you?-. She asked, looking him up and down.

True, he didn't have the cloak he normally wore.

Perhaps... in this case, it's a good thing.

-Don't worry, I'm not here to harm you. I'm Ralsei, the prince of this kingdom-. He introduced himself, bowing.

-Ha, Prince of what exactly? This place feels like a ghost town-. the girl mocked, and to be honest, he blushed a little in embarrassment.

-W-well... I've been alone for as long as I can remember. Just waiting for the heroes to arrive-. the prince said, looking away.

-Oh, right, about heroes thing..... Do you mean us?-. the Monster asked with a raised eyebrow.

-Yes. But first, listen to me. I know it sounds confusing, and that in your eyes, this whole situation is suspicious. However, you must trust me-. I'll give you the answers you need, but right now I have a delicate situation to attend to, so in exchange, you can stay in my castle," Ralsei spoke, in the gentlest, kindest, and most sincere voice he allowed himself.

-Ummm. This all feels super suspicious. What do you think, Kris?-. Susie asked the human, who spoke after a few seconds.

-I mean... we'll stay here for a while... he seems to know a lot about what's going on-. They spoke in neutral voices, making Ralsei sigh.

It was good that, thanks to their plans, Kris wasn't as cautious as Susie about the dark worlds.

-Pfff, no. If you want to stay here, it's fine by me. But I don't feel like it. I'll find a way out of here-. the monster spoke, but before she could leave, Ralsei spoke.

-Wait, Susie. That's exactly the situation I need to fix-. The prince spoke, causing her to stop.

-What do you mean?-. the girl asked, looking at the prince.

-Your exit route. Due to a error, the opening that would return them to your world is currently closed. However, I'm working on reopening it; it shouldn't take more than half an hour to fix the problem-. He spoke half-truthfully.

The exit route would only open once the dark fountain in the card kingdom was sealed. However, only the Angel could do that.

It was a little funny to think about, wasn't it? In order to help his friends, he needed the help of the Genocide.

Heh, the damn irony kept hitting him.

-Our world? Wait a second... AREN'T WE ON EARTH?!-. Susie exclaimed, her eyes wide and her jaw dropping.

Ralsei laughed lightly, and even saw a faint smile spread across Kris's face.

-N-no. You are, but it's... more complicated to explain. I'll gladly do so later, but for now, follow me. I'll accommodate you in my castle to relax, while I take care of fixing the problem-. The prince spoke, signaling for them to follow.

Kris started to walk away, but Susie didn't move, standing there staring at him with narrowed eyes.

-...I'll feed you if you're hungry-. the prince said with a smile, as he watched the monster shudder slightly.

-...very well-. You win, little prince. But it's only because the idea of free food is so tempting! But believe me, the first sign of something wrong and I'll rip your face off-. Susie threatened, baring her teeth. Ralsei wasn't intimidated.

In fact, he smiled at the incident.

-Of course. I won't let you down, now let's continue-. the prince spoke as the trio began walking.

Internally, Ralsei breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed like everything had turned out well.

He still had a lot to do. But at least for now, everything seemed to be going well for him.

Now, he just needed to make sure they stayed in his castle and return to the castle of cards.

But for now... he would enjoy the warmth of being with a group. Even if he didn't deserve to be around these two beings of light. Especially after what he had done.

You stopped by the save point. Up ahead was the door that separated you from Jevil.

*5 Left

You heard a familiar female voice in your head, reminding you how many were left in the castle. You'd done a little scouting before coming here, to clear out what remained that the prince hadn't eliminated yet. You didn't find anything spectacular, just a few scattered enemies, who were most likely trying to hide.

Except for Rouxls, that guy tried to confront you head-on for some reason... only he knows.

Anyway, after your little cleanup, you came here to eliminate Jevil before continuing. Although you find it curious that there are more enemies besides the two bosses. You assume the other three are close to the King.

Well, the prince will probably take care of them.

Not that it would matter. You had the jackpot practically in front of you; all you had to do was open the cell.

*File saved.

You smiled slightly as you approached the door.

From your inventory, you pulled out a key forcibly bound with ice. But imbued with a considerable amount of Magic that you yourself had provided.

If this didn't work, you'd have to resort to the classic method of breaking the door with blows, ice, and cuts. That would take a while longer.

But that wouldn't stop you.

You heard Jevil's laughter from the background, while you smiled yourself.

The spectacle was approaching.

Ralsei stood in front of the throne. There was nothing inside, only the ashes of the last remaining guards in the castle.

He felt a little stronger.

Unfortunately, he couldn't do much more. By the time he arrived, the Angel had already wiped out most of those left. Except for a few stragglers in the king's chamber.

Even Rouxls, with his ability to manipulate the Angel's options, was now just an ice statue decorating a hallway. The poor Darkner might have been lucky if the Angel's vessel had been human.

But it wasn't; his vessel was a monster, and that was the detail that doomed him.

But speaking of the Angel, he couldn't find it anywhere. That means it must be fighting Jevil. Or at least, about to.

If that's the case, he can't waste any more time. So without hesitation, he advanced through the throne room and then into the hallway. Finally, he reached the castle roof.

-You-. He heard an angry voice call out to him, and with a calm gaze, Ralsei looked up.

The King of Cards. Lancer's father glared at him furiously.

-You're the wretch who laid waste to my kingdom with that Lightner. Even my own son must be dead if I never return! He may have been a fool, but he was still my son-. the king spoke furiously, while the prince trembled at the memory of the little boy.

His heart tightened, and tears threatened to spill out. But he held it back.

-Yes... I am... I'm sorry-. he said, though the last bit was whispered, but still. The king seemed to hear it, and as a result, his fury only increased.

-You have the nerve to say sorry after massacring my people?! They were mine! Only I could decide over them! It wasn't right for your traitor and your Lightner friend to come and destroy everything that's mine!-. he exclaimed furiously. But his words would have quickly turned Ralsei's sadness into anger.

-She's not my friend!-. he exclaimed furiously, taking a step forward.

This guy not only showed that he didn't really care that much for his own people. But he also had the nerve to call him a friend of That Thing?

Now he understood why thinking about the King always gave him a feeling of unease, even though he remembered almost nothing about him. Beyond the fact that he looked like Lancer.

Mainly, because the Angel always killed him before they arrived.

-Oh no? Don't lie to me, dwarf. Why else would the two of them undertake genocide in my lands?-. the King growled, as Ralsei drew closer.

-She does it for fun... but I... I do it because I have no choice... because this is the only way to get stronger, and be able to stop her once and for all... and I'm so sorry, but... you're the last one left... She's busy with Jevil right now... it's just you and me-. Ralsei spoke as he summoned multiple fireballs around him.

-Bah. I don't give a shit. You destroyed my kingdom! The kingdom I worked so hard to unify to rule! The kingdom the knight himself blessed for me! So I'll rip your face apart for what you did! And then I'll split that damn Lightner in half!-. The King fumed as he summoned multiple pikes.

And without hesitation, both contenders launched their respective attacks, thus beginning the fierce battle.

The little prince quickly slid across the ground to dodge the pikes. While the king, partly due to his size, took the full brunt of his opponent's attacks.

Although he had plenty of health, he lacked mobility, and against an enemy like the prince, this lack of mobility would cost him dearly.

The king tried to attack again, using his chain this time to try to hit him. But the goat boy could have avoided it, and even counterattacked by throwing a flame at the chain, which would cause the king to retract it. But this time, Ralsei took the opportunity to put his hands on the ground and summon a pillar of flame that consumed the king.

However, thanks to that, he got distracted, and several pikes managed to hit him in the back, forcing him to stop his attack to move and try to heal.

-Ha! Better than I expected, dwarf. But when I'm done here, you'll just be a tapestry on my floor!-. he heard the king shout. But the prince shook his head.

He couldn't lose, not now.

So, without hesitation, he began to charge his magic, preparing for the next round while trying to avoid his enemy's attacks.

The only thing that would be going through his mind at that moment would be the greatest concentration he'd ever experienced in this life.

This was his first big challenge. If he wanted to prove to himself that all of this had been worth even a tiny bit of pain, he had to defeat this king, no matter what.

You moved slowly through the empty hallway until you reached the save point in the Chaos King's room.

*1 Left

*File saved.

It seems that, as you expected, the prince took care of the other three, and is probably already fighting the king.

Good for him. Although, sadly, you got the big prize.

Cryomancer/Swordman

-Spookie Sword

Heh, and add some minor healing items and the Dark Crystal to that.

It's a shame a rampage kill didn't give you the boss item. Though to be fair, you couldn't use Jevil's item on Noelle, so you weren't missing much.

Anyway, you should move to the roof. If Ralsei hadn't finished off the King yet, you would.

So, silently, you started walking toward the fighting area, where everything was surprisingly quiet.

Was the fight over?

Wow, that was relatively quick... maybe you didn't time the fight with Jevil, or how long it took you to open the door (the stupid Key had trouble working).

Anyway, you were curious to see who won, so you picked up your pace. It didn't take you long to arrive, noticing the remains of pikes and burns, and up ahead... an interesting scene.

The prince was, in every sense of the word, a mess.

He was wounded to the core, his clothes were dirty and damaged, and he was trembling.

It wasn't hard to guess that the fight was quite complicated for him. Without your protection, he was completely vulnerable to blows, so the damage was more direct. Even if his defenses were higher.

Still, he was clearly the one who had won, and you assumed it was thanks to his healing magic. Without it, he probably would have died.

And in front of him was the king, kneeling, burned, barely conscious, and clearly torn between anger and fear.

-Y-you... the knight... will make you pay for what you did-.You heard the king speak with difficulty, before a large ball of fire appeared above the prince and threw him towards the king.

A small explosion filled the room, and soon after, after the smoke cleared, there was only ash and a humanoid goat kneeling on the ground, supporting itself with its hands so as not to collapse.

You began to walk, your footsteps echoing heavily in the silence of the room. You saw the king tremble as you approached, causing him to stand with difficulty.

-...it's done... there's no one else left in this dark world-. you heard Ralsei say in an exhausted voice.

You just ignored the comment and kept moving forward. The fountain wasn't far away.

-Did you enjoy it?... Did you enjoy your massacre? Because I'm 100% sure I didn't-. you heard him say again. But you didn't respond as you walked past him.

Before you left, you looked at the prince, who was struggling to stay upright, his face shadowed by his hat.

Strangely, a dialogue option appeared in front of you.

It was more fun because of you.

---

It was a curious experience.

Hmm, the first one sounded a little... strange. And even though you were technically the bad guy, it was one thing to have fun doing evil, and quite another to make the atmosphere uncomfortable.

You couldn't have fun if the atmosphere was uncomfortable.

So, you went for the option that would most likely anger him.

❤️It was a curious experience.

You noticed the prince tremble and clench his fists.

-Of course, for you, it was just that... Please, go. Finish this quickly, and return to your world, far from my home-. He blurted out heavily, more than "normal" even. Probably a product of exhaustion, pain, and stress.

Oh, another choice.

Of course, "prince," see you.

---

See you, Ralsei... try not to fall behind.

Well, both answers were clearly mocking. Made to irritate the Darkner, so, after thinking about it...

❤️See you, Ralsei... try not to fall behind.

The prince said nothing, just turned around and began trudging toward the exit. Probably heading toward Castle Town.

It didn't matter; the fountain was ahead.

It didn't take you long to reach the fountain, which fluctuated rhythmically, like a moving river.

A river of pure darkness. But still, it glowed an unnatural green.

And one that only your power could seal.

So, without wasting any time, you sighed, and felt as if your very soul...

*Ralsei has joined the group.

Your body opened its eyes as your soul moved toward the fountain.

You turned and saw the prince at the end of the hall, looking at you, a faint smile on his face.

Heh... clever bastard.

Your soul entered the fountain, and then, everything became bright.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

Your eyes were a little heavy. But it didn't take long for you to get used to the light, as you finally regained your senses.

You were in the same unused hall as always. Only now, in addition to frost, there were ashes everywhere. The after effects of the prince's involvement. Although you noticed one detail in passing: neither Kris nor Susie were here... so Ralsei had managed to make them stay in Castle Town, huh? You were curious about how he did it, but you'd leave that for later.

Speaking of Ralsei... you had to admit. You hadn't expected such a move from him. Never in any reset had anyone from the original group done something like this. Joining your party while you were distracted sealing the fountain, so they could level up as well.

A dirty, but clever strategy. Though it probably won't work again (unless you slip up in a major way, or he finds another way to do something similar). But still, a level increase was always a considerable buff. Especially at this point in the story. And considering Ralsei's strength was considerably higher than it should have been, since he'd taken most of the EXP given by enemies... perhaps the level-up bonus would be greater than what you received.

Though to counter that, there's the fact that you leveled up twice, so it more or less evens out.

Oh well, you'd find out tomorrow. Right now you should... hmm, should you go to class?

What time is it exactly?

...

Oh wow! You were only in the Dark World for an hour and a half? Okay, that makes sense. The prince had already wiped out most of the enemies there, so your workload was cut short, but even then, you didn't expect such a short time.

Okay. You figured you'd have enough time to have classes. You just needed a convincing excuse. And by the way, it would probably be easier to convince Berdley to study in the library the next day.

Ah yes... Cybercity. The prince may have had a head start today. But tomorrow's Dark World will be opened with you front and center by the knight, so you'll be the one to go who will have the advantage of time. And add to that the fact that Ralsei has never seen the path that originally led to the weird route, and you have a long list of enemies ready to be converted into experience.

Even so, you knew the prince would probably manage to get his hands on the NPCs. He had proven himself extremely easy at dispatching them. Much more than you were capable of given the limitations of the world, so who knows? Maybe they're more evenly matched than you think.

Anyway, it didn't matter right now. You had a class to attend so Mom wouldn't get mad...

Oh, right, but first...

You concentrated a bit, took a breath, and let it out as you relaxed, feeling your body grow lighter. Your control weakened voluntarily, and when you opened your eyes,

A pair of black eyes were revealed. Only a slight red glow lay in the middle of them.

-Hello!-. You waved to nothing, but thanks to that, you heard your voice, soft, feminine, and without a hint of that strange tone that usually came out when you spoke in options, while you were in complete control.

You'd already had enough fun in the dark world, so it was time for you to be just Noelle for a while.

You felt her smile, while you thought about what you could do with all the rest of the day.

Maybe, play dragon blazers. But that would be after class, or get some ice cream, or even get something to eat at QC's Dinner!

She agreed, and so on. You started moving towards your classroom, humming a soft tune.

....

Oh crap! You forgot your notebooks.

Well, you'd have to make a quick run home. Fortunately, you always had your keys at hand.

Besides, the tiredness from the run would make your story more believable, so it wasn't all bad.

Anyway, hurry up!

You need to run.

The end.

Well, another section of the idea done, yay.

...

You know, I was thinking. Maybe I should really try to write a story about this, and not just "disjointed ideas," especially now that this whole little universe isn't just an intro born from the music of a song anymore. But a complete idea in itself.

Though I don't know if that would be appropriate. After all, I'm fully aware that this idea might seem very "edgy," and probably not many people will like it. Not to mention that translating a story into English and making it understandable is a bit tricky (especially when you have to use a translator).

(And in the case of Wattpad, there are only like 10 of us lol).

I'll think about it, but if you have any ideas, well, I'm all ears.

This is turning out to be more fun than I thought it would be after all, and while I'd like to be able to explore it in other ways, I'll have to settle for writing for now.

Anyway, rest easy, and see you later.

Chapter 5: History

Chapter Text

Hello.

So... yes, I was going to say that, after much thought (and two people commenting on it, lol), I've decided to turn this set of ideas into a full story.

That is, I'm taking what I've already shown here and refining, expanding, and updating it. So that it's more coherent, entertaining, and enjoyable to read (if you like these kinds of stories, that is).

The new story now has the original name. While the name of this story has been simplified, so as not to confuse anyone.

As always, I hope you enjoy it and remember, this is being done for the purpose of entertainment and fun, so don't take this too seriously, okay? It's like everything else, just a small project that, although it would be interesting if it could grow, will remain as just another written story among the bunch.

Okay, lads, it's time to go. I have to sleep. So... see you later. This week I should finish editing and fine-tuning everything I have here, as well as the English translation.

Anyway, see you later. You know, if you have any thoughts, don't hesitate to comment. Feedback is always welcome as long as it's constructive.

See you later.
