Work Text:
wednesday addams prided herself on being collected. nay— disinterested. it allowed her little to no distraction from her novel and studies on the unsolved cases even jericho’s top detectives struggled to scratch the surface on. the seer could not conjure anything that would deviate her attention in the slightest. except enid.
enid— who thrust herself and her gnarly brightness into wednesday’s every day existence whether she wanted it or not; enid who would wait for the very last millisecond of wednesday’s allocated hour of writing to burst into excited chatter about her day and whine until the raven would reciprocate; enid who would call her ‘willa’ and bump their shoulders together in class for her attention and giggle when wednesday would close her eyes to collect herself after a particularly loud lunch spent with enid’s friends; enid who would blush the prettiest shade of pink when wednesday would pull her closer by the waist or mutter under her breath, “querida, the sparkle in your eyes is sending an awful stir in my chest, please don’t allow it to falter.”
it was hard, yes, to allow not only another person into the seer’s claustrophobically small circle— but to give someone unfiltered territory to her beating heart. but enid wasn’t anyone. enid was enid, the girl who made her heart flutter strangely and sometimes will to dig past her ribcage and rip it out with her bare hands so to be alleviated from the powerful distractions the blonde could provoke.
“wednesday~” the voice of yoko, enid’s bestest best friend (enid’s words- not hers) and a deeply bothersome acquaintance to wednesday, twinkled from above her. the seer lifted her gaze slowly from her novel to see the vampire grinning almost wolfishly down at her. her brow quirked, patience running low as is. “yoko, to what do i owe the misfortune of this conversation?”
the vampire slid into the bench next to her, univited— wasn’t that against vampire honour? “not much, just thought you’d like to know enid’s talking to bruno over there. i know you love him.”
her eye twitched. wednesday gazed over to find that yoko had been truthful. the bob of enid’s hair bounced as she animatedly spoke to the tall, tanned boy who was staring at the blonde with far too much intensity for wednesday’s liking. it drove a knife into her chest and twisted anticlockwise— frustration simmered in her hands which clenched the old book. bruno said something which caused enid to laugh (which confused the raven deeply because she had never heard the mutt say anything remotely interesting in his life ) and caused a few strands of her pink highlights to fall into her face. with a perfectly neutral expression, the seer watched as he brushed the hair out of enid’s face, fingertips daring to brush down the contour of her cheek to her jaw.
yoko flinced as wednesday stood up abruptly. even she was slightly surprised at her own movement. “what are you doing?!” yoko hissed, reaching to grasp her blazer— but wednesday was already moving. moving towards her beautiful, wicked enid and the nuisance. the blonde’s bright blue eyes flitted over to wednesday’s approaching frame, glimmering with an anticipatory wave. it took every ounce of control inside of her cold, seething body to not grasp the girl’s waist into her possession.
“enid.” wednesday greeted with the slightest illit of warmth. they were in public, and the seer wasn’t willing to let her guard drop the slightest in front of the foolish pup standing between them awkwardly.
“wednesday! it’s weird seeing you in the court. have you finished your novel yet?” the blonde wolf asked, eyelashes batting innocently as though she couldn’t see the daggers wednesday was glaring towards bruno and slicing him perfectly in the chest. “almost. i found our room to be oddly too quiet to concentrate.” she selfishly revelled in the way enid grinned wide, wide, wide and giggled as she looked over to bruno. the raven wanted to pull her by the jaw and kiss her silly. not now.
“say, enid. am i wrong to be under the impression that we are romantically involved?” there was no going back now. not when blue eyes stared into her own— wide, and a hitch festered in the air. wednesday knew that her question hadn’t been loud, per se, but as always the seer was cautious of the fact that they were surrounded by many of their classmates and the group of friends enid had adopted as her ‘pack’.
the blonde wolf stared at her quietly, processing the question for much longer than wednesday would have liked— but she understood exactly why.
ever since the incident during the last term which had been the same night wednesday had placed enid in her own bed and kissed her bloodied knuckles with lucid mutters of “querida, i want to remember the sight of you bloodied and beautiful like this forever,” and allowed the blonde to brush the dried flakes out of her long raven hair, wednesday had requested the intimacies they shared stay between them. or, at least for enid’s sake, a quiet secret.
(due to shame was out of question, especially on the raven’s behalf. this was known to enid because she had asked one night after wednesday’s hour of reading had ended, her fingers had twitched over the typewriter after enid blurted the question out. anxiety was riddled in her words that the raven only wished to soothe.
she had gathered the blonde’s hands in her own, perched on her bed and stared into those bright irises and said with as much insistence as possible: “absolutely not, enid. never in my life could i posses your love and not yearn to display mine back in a way that would make even my father wince in its lavishness.”
“but i have never had this sort of feeling for anyone before; this longing for you to be the first thing my cold gaze lands on in the morning and the last it sees before slumber. i merely wish to keep you all to myself, for a little while, selfishly. if that is alright with you, querida.”
and enid’s lower lip had trembled and with a shaky nod she had gathered the seer in her arms feverishly. “of course, willa, i trust you completely.”)
but now wednesday craved for everyone to see how badly she needed enid’s presence around her at all times, how desperately she wanted to gather the blonde in her arms and never let go. how much it meant to her when the stares and whispers would get too much even for an addams, and enid would welcome her back to the dorm with open arms and a kiss to her forehead and freckles under her sunken eyes.
the blonde wolf blinked, as though ripping herself out of a daze of her own. “yes, yes we are!” she smiled, eyes crinkling with happiness and wednesday wanted to kiss them smooth. “i thought as much.” her own lips betrayed her, curling into a rather satisfied grin— or smirk, depending on the perspective. enid yearned to see the dimple in her skin peek out.
bruno swallowed beside them, evidently feeling rather awkward and out of place— good. wednesday had accomplished her goal spectacularly. her father would cackle with pride reading it in her next letter to home. “that’s— that’s cool, for you guys!” he coughed, lips curling only half- heartedly, the faint sound of yoko snickering invaded the silence. the raven wanted to pull enid in by the waist and nose at the pressure point on her throat for good measure.
he muttered something about having a lab to get to, but wednesday had stopped listening long ago. enid, albeit a little shyly after her girlfriend’s actions, bid him goodbye with a smile that was far too sweet and sent a terrible curl in the raven’s chest. she would tell her such later.
(later, she did when enid was curled up against her cold frame while wednesday re-read the passage of her novel she had been engrossed in earlier.
“what was all that about earlier?” the blonde asked, quiet as though to not fully disturb the peaceful atmosphere. wednesday had allowed her to light a disgustingly strong strawberry scented candle— enid didn’t want to push her luck. “if you mean my public proclamation of my love for you, i merely felt it was time to make it known.”
enid sat up in a flurry. so much for pushing her luck. her hair stuck up in disarray, and wednesday itched to detangle it. “you love me?!”
her brow furrowed, closing the novel slowly. “i thought that was obvious. am i not doing enough to express it for you? please, querida, do let me know if that is the case—“
“seriously willa!” enid shrieked, rolling around the bed to groan and cover the red dusting her cheeks. if wednesday found pleasure in her embarrassment, she kept it tightly shut behind the walls of her heart.)
