Work Text:
He comes like thunder that remembers her by name.
Not a possession, not a bargain; just a fact at her threshold. She opens the door because she’s meant to.
The room narrows to breath. Lamps throw small gold across the floorboards; his markings take the light as if it were owed. He is not gentle. He is exact. There’s a difference, and she chooses it.
He touches her wrist first, two fingers to the pulse, as if confirming she’s here to be witnessed and not forgiven. Her mouth says nothing useful. Her body answers instead.
When he kisses her, it isn’t hunger at once. It’s patience with teeth in it, a tide that takes its time and still reaches everything. She tastes salt and something like iron made sweet, and realizes she’s not afraid of wanting; only of wanting less than this.
Cloth loosens the way a held breath leaves. His hands map her like a coast he intends to return to without a guide. She arches, not to perform, but to agree. When he says her name it sounds like a decision the night has already made.
It isn’t mercy he gives her; it’s precision. The kind that finds the place she breaks open and holds her there until breaking turns into light. She comes apart like foam and re-forms around him, and he laughs — low, pleased she survived him and didn’t look away.
After, the room remembers to widen. Her pulse writes itself back into her skin. His marks look like a route she could walk again in the dark.
“Mine,” he says, not a question.
“Yours,” she says, with conviction.
