Summary:

Day 3 - Seaside
Lighthouse Days of Summer, prompt #3: Seaside

Miri & Gale. Post-canon fluff.

Work Text:

The journey home to Waterdeep had been long, but it was full of light and levity. And there was no greater comfort after so many days of hardship than sharing in one another's company. They had chosen to go on foot. A sort of impromptu vacation up the Sword Coast - some peaceful traveling, just the two of them, before life could sweep them up once more.

Miri and Gale had spent the days trading tales from their experiences before the tadpoles, and spent their nights in inns or tents forging new memories together.

When they had finally gotten home - the blessed reprieve of Gale's tower- Miri couldn't wait to see his study. She had sprinted up the tower stairs, urging him on excitedly - dying to see the 'center of his universe'. Needing to know if it was as lovely as he had shown her those months ago in the weave.

Gale almost couldn't keep up. They got caught up every few feet, hugging here, kissing there, soaking it all in. Needing to touch and feel grounded in their new reality. Almost too good to be true.

But his heart had never felt as full as the moment he saw Miri on his balcony. In the flesh, arms outstretched in wonder as she turned towards him, silhouetted in the last rays of the evening sun dipping into the sea of Deepwater Harbor.

He could almost weep at the relief and joy at being here together. Whole. Alive. Together.

He swept her up for a kiss - the first of many many thousands they would share right here on this balcony.

No mindflayers or devils or gods between them. No crises or daring rescues looming over them.

Just the gentle lapping of the sea, the far away cries of seabirds, and the humdrum of the city. All drowned out by the splendor of finally being seaside with his beloved.

He could spend all evening telling her everything there was to know about Waterdeep. Their home. A peace he had once feared he would never see again.

Made all the sweeter by Miri's steadfast presence by his side.

He's never been so happy.
