Chapter Text
A boy standing on top of a building, with the N Seoul Tower in sight. A man, dressed in a strange garb, stared back at him with malice. The boy looked to his left and right; he was surrounded by 5 other boys in colorful costumes reminiscent of sailor uniforms.
“Looks like this will be our final battle.” The Boy with the purple hair said.
A laugh comes from the red-haired one.
“That was one of the corniest things you’ve said, you know.” He quipped
“What else am I supposed to say?”
“Maybe a pep talk would have been nice.” The green one suggested
The blonde boy right next to him let out a little laugh
“Look, now one of the youngest is making fun of you.” One of them, who was colored blue, uttered.
The boy looked at them, then to the strange man, then back to them.
“Well, let’s just get it started!” He exclaimed, earning a laugh from the group
“Then let’s g-”
RING RING RING
A groan was let out, hands trying to find the alarm clock to shut it up and messily knocking over a few knick-knacks that were situated on his bedside table. Once his finger found the button, he quickly pressed it to stop the clock from making its noise.
“Sakuya, it’s time to get up or you’ll be late for school,” A woman’s voice called out
The boy tossed and turned for a moment, grumbling a little bit.
“Give me five more minutes.” The boy pleaded
Suddenly, thumping can be heard from outside his room, his door swung open to reveal a small girl, she let out a little huff before closing in on the boy on the bed. She jumped onto the bed, crushing the boy with her weight.
“Mom said wake up! Get up now!!” She shouted at the sleeping boy.
A loud grunt was emitted from him, his eyes now wide open. He pushed the girl off him and finally sat up. He glares at the girl, while she makes a silly face, her eye winking and her tongue peaking out of her mouth.
“You didn’t need to do that,” Sakuya muttered under his breath
His little sister just smiled at him. “At least you’re finally up!” She exclaimed.
“Breakfast is ready, get dressed already before Mom throws a fit.”
She exits his room, skipping as if she’s going for ice cream, leaving him nursing a bruised stomach from that wake-up call.
The boy reluctantly stands up from his comfortable bed, dreading what the day offers him.
He quickly did his morning routine, splashing his face with cold water, brushing his teeth with haste. He went to his closet, picked out his school uniform, and swiftly put it on in record time. He rushes down the staircase, beelining towards the dining table where his dad and sister are waiting for the food to arrive.
“Good morning, sleeping beauty,” His dad says as his eyes scan through today’s newspaper. His sister let out a small giggle, earning a glare from the boy as he sat down. “Nice weather we have today.” He lets out a small grunt as a response.
His mom finally emerges from the kitchen, their breakfast in hand. She gently places each dish right in front of them.
“Oh wow, pancakes! My favorite.” His sister exclaimed.
Sakuya looks at the food, his eyes sparkling. His mom makes the best food in the world (his opinion), and her breakfasts are no joke.
“Thank you for the food.” They all said in unison
The Fujinaga family finally digs in for their morning meal. Small hums can be heard from the kids as they feast on the pancakes. This breakfast was a treat for them to start their day.
“Oh, did you guys hear? The city’s heroes, Orion and Sirius, stopped a stampede at the local zoo yesterday,” His dad says, wiping his mouth to remove some crumbs.
“They did, I saw it on the news last night.” His mom responds, covering her mouth as she lets out a small cough. “They’re really a handsome duo, but not as handsome as our Sakuya-chan.” She uttered, making the boy’s face a little flushed.
“You didn’t need to say that, Mom.” He spoke. His mom just lets out a small laugh. “I just wanted to remind you.”
His sister lets out a vomit sound. “Don’t compare him to Orion and Sirius, they’re way more handsome than he is.” She remarked. Sakuya’s foot stepped on hers, making her flinch. “Mom, big brother just stepped on my foot.” She whined.
“Now Sakuya you didn’t need to do that, and sweetie you shouldn’t have said that about your brother.” Their mother chides
“But Moooom.” They both wailed.
“Now, kids finish your food or you’ll both be late for school.” Their Dad chimed in.
The siblings let out a grumbled fine and quickly devoured their food.
-------------------------------------------------------
Adjusting his shoes, Sakuya took one last look at their entryway before saying,“I’ll be back” and walking out the door as soon as his mom said, “Be safe out there.” Once outside their house, he looked at his sister and gave her a small wave goodbye as they both headed in opposite directions to go to school.
The walk to his school was normal, just like any other day, passing through a market alleyway, the city’s local arcade, a small park, and a mom-and-pop shop he hangs around with his friend Ryo on days where he doesn’t want to go home early
“Hey, Sakuya!”
Speaking of his friend Ryo, the boy looked behind him to find his best friend waving excitedly at him. Ryo walked fastly to catch up to him. Sakuya let out a small smile. “Hi, Ryo.” he greeted with the same energy he gave him. His friend gave him a toothy grin and they began walking together to school.
“So did you watch the news last night?” His friend asked
Sakuya shook his head. “I was too busy with homework.” He responds, making Ryo frown a little.
“Aw you should have seen it! Orion and Sirius looked so cool. The way they sprung into action fearlessly to save the citizens at the zoo? It was so impressive!” He enthusiastically says, earning a small shrug from his friend, not really interested in the topic at hand.
“Honestly, I don’t see the hype with them.” He says nonchalantly making his friend make a weird face. “Hey, they're like super heroic and cool! It makes me want to become a hero like them,” He remarks, making a hero pose making Sakuya laugh out loud.
“Yeah if that happens I’ll be your number one fan.” He jokes, making Ryo smile brightly. “You promise?” he holds out his pinky to him. He humored him and did the same, linking their pinkies together. “I promise.”
They both let out a loud laugh.
-------------------------------------------------------
Sakuya looks out the window from his seat, blocking out what the teacher was telling them. Something about isosceles triangles or whatever. The lesson was currently uninteresting to him, twirling his pen around.
“I wonder what that dream was about” He thought, trying to recall what he dreamt. Was he reading too much manga? But it seemed so real to him. He felt some form of camaraderie with the mysterious men in his dream.
“Maybe this will just be a one-off thing.”
“Fujinaga”
“Yeah it probably meant nothing.”
“Fujinaga”
“But it felt so real…”
“Fujinaga”
He jolts up from his seat, looking at his teacher with a surprised look. His teacher lets out a tired sigh.
“Can you please answer this equation?” They asked. Sakuya shakes his head no, making the whole class laugh.
“Consider this a warning Fujinaga, I won’t be lenient the next time this happens. Please take your seat.”
He sits back down, face flushed in embarrassment as he lets out a small apology to his teacher.
-------------------------------------------------------
Sakuya enters his room, letting out a small sigh of relief now that the day is over. He walks toward his desk, placing his school bag down. He brought out some materials for his assignments to be done after he takes a bath.
He stretches his body, making sure his bones make a small crack before looking out the window of his room. “The stars are bright tonight” He thought, moving closer to the window and opening it. He felt the soft breeze of the night as he looked up to the sky. “It’s so pretty”.
Suddenly, he sees a shooting star passing by. He remembers what his sister said, that if you see a shooting star and make a wish and it will come true, or so she says.
“It probably won’t hurt to try…” He thought, clasping his hands together and closing his eyes. He wished for the first thing that came to mind.
“I wish for a normal and happy life for this year.”
He opened his eyes as the shooting star fades into the night. He lets out a small laugh, “Like anything bad is going to happen to me” He jokes, closing the window.
-------------------------------------------------------
RING RING--
His fist finds the button immediately. Letting out a small groan, Sakuya sits up immediately, rubbing his eyes trying to fight the grogginess. His mouth a loud yawn before getting up to do his morning routine, might as well seize the day now that he's awake.
“You’re up early.” His mom says as he descends from the staircase.
He shrugs, going into the kitchen to drink some water. “My body decided to cooperate today” His mom lets out a laugh. “Well can you help set up the table then?” She requests. The boy gave his mom a small salute and immediately went to the cupboards fetching the plates and utensils.
Breakfast goes as normal as for any family, his dad makes small comments about the news, his mom nodding along to whatever his dad was saying and his sister making small quips as a response.
He bids a farewell to his mom as he leaves for school.
His steps are light as he makes his way to school, the wind brushing past him gently as the sun shines brightly. He doesn’t know why he’s in a good mood, he just felt nice. Maybe waking up on time does wonders on one’s psyche.
He passes by the park, stopping for a moment to appreciate the good weather. He looked to his right, noticing a small hole on the ground next to the seesaw. The curiosity got the better of him and he approached the hole with caution.
As he moved closer and closer to the hole his heart rate increased slightly. Once near the small pit, his eyes saw a small plush keychain in the small pit.
“Aw, it's so cute!” He exclaimed, hands clasping together in awe. His hands went to grasp the plush, wiping off the dirt on the keychain. “Who would leave such an adorable thing here?” He ponders.
“Well if they left it here maybe they don’t want it anymore.” He concludes. He quickly put his bag down to attach the new discovery onto the bag’s strap, joining the rest of his collection of small trinkets.
He continued his walk to school with a small grin on his face.
“Sakuya~” He heard from behind, He turns around and spots Ryo bolting towards him, a smile evident on his face.
“Mornin’ Ryo.” He greets.
“Good Morning.”
Ryo looked at his friend, noticing his friend beaming. “Did something good happen to you?” He asked
Sakuya shrugged.
“I probably got up on the good side of the bed.” He answers. Ryo squints at him as a response.
“Well, that’s a first.” He replies, “Usually it would take you sister to dive onto you to wake up.”
Sakuya shrugs again. “Maybe my wish is coming true.”
“Wish?”
“Yeah, I saw a shooting star last night and made a wish.” He says, making his friend laugh.
“You believe in that stuff?” He asks
“No, but it doesn’t hurt to try.” Sakuya states. Now Ryo shrugs. “You’re right about that I guess” He responds. The two stare at each other before letting out a laugh. They continued their small talk until they reached the gates of their school, parting ways at the hallway
-------------------------------------------------------
Sakuya lets out a sigh of relief as he enters his room, putting his bag on his study table and immediately heading to his bed to lie down. He’s thankful that tomorrow is the weekend so he can rest and recuperate from all the school work he did throughout the week.
He rolled over to the other side of his bed, hand reaching out to get his phone off the table to scroll through social media to kill time before he starts to cook dinner.
Thud.
His ears perked up at the sound. He sits up and looks around his room, checking to see what made that sound.
Thud.
He gets up from his bed, going closer and closer to the sound. He reached the area where the sound was emitting, his study table. He slowly tries to grab his bag, but as his hands reach out his bag suddenly drops to the floor, his many bag charms making a loud thud on to the floor.
He winces from the sound and as he opens his eyes he spots one charm floating above his bag.
“You know it’s kinda rude to just grab what you saw on the ground for yourself.”
He’s now staring at a floating star plu- Did the plush just talk?
“What.” Sakuya musters out.
“You humans are so weird, you know.” The plush continues, floating from left to right. The voice was rather deep for their cute face. “You’re lucky I’m a nice guy.”
What is going on?
“You… YOU CAN TALK? Sakuya exclaims, grabbing his pillow as a weapon. He makes a defensive stance as the keychain flutters around his desk.
“Yes, can we move past that part already?” They asked him, obviously tired from this situation. All the boy can do is be surprised. He pushes the pillow towards the thing, making it his shield for whatever that creature can do.
“No that can’t be right…” He thinks. Trying to rationalize the situation
“Maybe I’m dreaming! Yeah that’s right” He thinks out loud and laughs crazily. The star sighs, moving closer to the boy, grabbing his cheek. (How did they even do that?) He lets out a rather loud ouch, proving to him he's actually awake.
“There, here's proof you're awake.”
Sakuya lets out a loud scream, probably alerting anyone in a 5-mile radius. The star winces from his shriek. He’s lucky his family is out at the moment, or this would cause more chaos.
“WHAT ARE YOU?” Sakuya exclaims, moving quickly away from the star.
“I am an emissary of the planet Neo.” They say rather proudly.
“Planet…Neo?” He asks, The star nods or at least tries to nod, moving closer to the boy.
“Yes planet Neo, which is approximately 127 million miles from this planet you call earth.”
His back finally reaches the wall, cornered by the weird plush. “W-why are you here?” He asks, the pillow now covering his face.
“I am here to pick a warrior to protect the earth from a looming threat from the cosmos.”
“A warrior?”
“Yes, a warrior!”
Sakuya tilts his head in confusion. “How did you even get here?” He asks
“I descended from the sky yesterday evening.” It replies back.
Yesterday evening?
Wait a minute…
“You’re the shooting star I saw last night!” He utters, pointing towards it. The star perks up. “You saw me? That shouldn’t be the case, I thought I landed rather discreetly.” They mumble. Sakuya looks at him with disbelief.
“You call landing at a park with a small crater discreet?” He quips. The alien makes a mad face. “It’s not my fault, it’s my first time to do so.”
Nothing is said after that.
After a minute or so of silence the star perks up. “Eureka!” They exclaim, making the boy jolt in surprise, “Perhaps this meeting isn’t by chance at all but destiny!” They excitedly said moving up and down like it was nodding. Destiny? What is this thing spewing out?
“Yes this is destiny! You are the destined protector of this planet!”
Protector? Now this thing is making more nonsense.
“Look- wait, what do I call you” He asks. The small alien ponders for a moment.
“My real name cannot be pronounced in earth speak, but you may call me Wichu.”
“Wi-wichu?” He asks
“Yes, that is the closest iteration of my name.”
Sakuya was almost rendered speechless at this situation, never could he think he would have an alien encounter in his lifetime.
“Anyways Wichu , you might be talking to the wrong person here.” He begins, “It really was a coincidence I spotted you in the sky and picked you off the ground.” His habit of picking stuff off the ground now biting his ass. “I can’t be the one you're looking for. I’m just a regular 17-year-old who goes to NTech High School. I have no skills for this.” He explains.
The alien shook his head no (Or at least looked like it did)
“No you’re wrong child, There are no coincidences, it must be fate that brought me here to you.” they say, now floating upwards, spinning around, and shining. A beam of light flashes out of the alien, materializing a bracelet out of thin air. The accessory binds itself to Sakuya’s right wrist, surprising the boy.
The boy looks at his wrist, and a bright pink bracelet greets him. “What’s this thing on me?” He asks the alien.
“A transformation bracelet!” They exclaim
He tried taking it off, shaking it off, even tried to bite it off but it stuck to him like super glue.
“Why can’t I take this thing off?”
The star smirks, “It can only be taken off once the evil has been defeated for good.” They explain.
All Sakuya does is open his mouth in shock.
“I didn’t agree with this!” He angrily said.
The alien sighs. “Like I said-” Sakuya cuts it off from continuing his sentence.
“No, it was definitely a coincidence!” He reiterates.
He hears the door from the ground floor open. “Sakuya, I'm home.” He hears his dad say. In a panic he grabs Wichu and puts him under his shirt and starts running down the stairs.
“Is dinner re-”
“I have to meet Ryo for a little bit at the park. I'll start dinner when I’m back!” He quickly said as he speedily exited the house. He ran a good distance away from his house. Once he was sure that no one would pass by, he released Wichu from his shirt.
“What was that for?” Wichu complains
“Sorry, I panicked.” He replies, wiping his hands against his pants, trying to dry them. All the alien can do is sigh. He looks back at the now nervous boy, trying to figure out how to calm his nerves.
“Do not worry.” They said
“Worry? All I can do is worry!” Sakuya wails
“You will not be-”
A scream cuts Wichu off. The two looked at each other. They both ran towards the sound, making their way to the park they first met each other.
There, they saw a large monster reminiscent of a huge cockroach, cornering two small kids.
Sakuya puts his hands on his head. “What do we do?” He worries, making Wichu float around hastily. “Only you can help them.” He says. The boy looks at him weirdly. “Not the time to joke right now.” He says, anxiety now eating at his nerves.
Wichu brings his wrist up to his eye. “The transformation bracelet, use it,” Wichu says, making Sakuya make a confused face. “What do you-” “Say, I call upon the powers of the star Crux, change up!” The star urges.
He looks at his wrist, then to Wichu and lets out a sigh. If he’s the only one who can save them, then so be it.
“Hey you!”
The monster, getting ready to attack stops and looks over to him, the kids holding each other for dear life, letting out small tears.
“I call upon the powers of the star Crux, change up!”
A bright light comes from his bracelet, enveloping him in a circle, his clothes changing from his everyday school uniform into a sailor-military style uniform, his hair now dyed a bright pink. The light ceases as it turns itself into a large staff with a star at the end of its tip.
The monster was stunned by the glow of the boy.
Sakuya twirls his staff around and strikes a confident pose, unlike what his nerves want to feel.
“If you want them you have to get through me.”
The brute winds up for a punch, charges right at him but he backflips away, narrowly avoiding it’s hit
“My body is so light.. I can move so quickly and freely,” He thinks, his head moving side to side, dodging each strike the monster tries to land on him. His body expertly avoided each attack. He grips his staff tightly, swinging it around to land a hit on the beast.
The monster blocks each hit with his arms, making him skid past the jungle gym.
“Crux use your energy blast!” Wichu shouts.
“Energy blast?” Sakuya asks, “How do I do that?” He questions, using his staff to block an upcoming attack, pushing him towards the entrance of the park.
“Just imagine a fire inside of you, ignite it, and point your staff towards the monster and fire!” Wichu exclaims.
Sakuya pushed the monster a good foot away from him and pointed his staff at it. He breaths in slowly, envisioning a hot flame inside his body, and he feels magic flow from his veins to his staff. As he exhales, he exclaims, “Energy blast!”
A laser is pointed towards the monster's chest, and a large blast emanates from his staff, hitting it straight to its chest, exploding the monster in one hit.
Sakuya lowers his staff, the monster now gone, and the kids are now safe from this disaster. He pants loudly and releases a sigh of relief.
“Thank god it’s done.” He falls to his knees, using his staff as a clutch to not fall on the ground.
“Uh, mister.” He looks up to see the two kids standing in front of him.
The two kids quickly hugged the boy, whispering their thanks to him. After the hug, the two exclaimed, “You were so cool, mister!” and other various praises their 6-year-old brain could muster.
Sakuya smiles back at them. “I’m just happy both of you are safe.” He says.
After a while, the kids and he walk out of the park. The kids waved him goodbye and ran towards the homes, eager to recount this encounter to their families. He waved back at them, returning their smile with one of his own.
“See, you’re a perfect fit to be the protector of this planet.” Wichu asserts. Sakuya sighs.
“This is a one-time thing, you know.” The boy says, making the alien pout.
“It can’t be! You’re the chosen one.” They said, making the boy made a disgruntled face.
“Let’s talk about this later.”
As the sun set, the two continued to bicker about this whole “chosen one” situation
Maybe that’s what you get when you wish upon a star jokingly.
