Chapter Text
Mizuki was just a regular high school girl, she was known to be a bit clumsy, energetic and sometimes a bit childish but overall a very fun person to be around, she loved pink, she had pink hair, pink eyes and always wore her hair in a side pigtail. She used to be in a happy relationship with a student from her class. His name was Ichiro, he had blue hair which was well combed and a pair of glasses making him seem like an average nerd but cuter. He always loved assisting Mizuki's antics, he always appreciated the help she gave him whenever he had difficulty with homework and most of all, he loved so much getting showered in kisses by her soft lips that he could stay all day begging for more.
5th of November, The year before the last
It was a freezing friday evening, Mizuki forgot to bring her pink cardigan and she was shivering from the cold the more they walked on the sidewalk across the city centre, Ichiro noticed that and with a small frown of pity crossing his face, he decided to take off his amber-brown coat and place it on Mizuki's shoulders, giving her the same warmth her crocheted cardigan would usually give. A soft "Thanks" slipped from her lips as she put the coat on while Ichiro stayed only in a blue sweater, he smiled at the girl's gratitude, as he gently pulled closer to her and the two walked along.
A drip landed on top of her head, it was starting to rain, and they didn't have an umbrella with them, he immediately lifted the hood on Mizuki's head while he just had to get lucky and not get wet before they even got home. After fifteen minutes of pointlessly running around with the rain finally starting to pour heavily on them, completely soaking Ichiro from head to toe, they finally arrived Ichiro's home. As they entered she took off the coat and hanged it on the hanger.
"Mom, we're home."
He called out and a woman in a simple white shirt, black pants, fluffy violet slippers and an apron appeared. Ichiro's mom had a few signs of aging, blue hair just like her son stylized in a rather wavy bob cut with a curl bouncing in front of her forehead, dark green eyes, round glasses, a mole near her nose and light red lipgloss. She frowned at the sight of her son completely soaked, yet she didn't seem surprised, signing it wasn't the first time Mizuki borrowed Ichiro's coat on a rainy day, however she didn't seem to be angry nor upset.
She sighed a little in disappointment however.
"At least you had to take a shower tonight, you can stay with us for dinner Mizuki-chan if you want to."
She warmly smiled as Mizuki thought about it for a while, then she nodded as she grabbed her phone from her backpack.
"Erm, sure miss, I'll tell my sister."
She turned on her phone revealing a wallpaper of her and Ichiro happily hanging out, eating french fries while doing funny faces, it looked ridiculous but wholesome at the same time, she then selected her sister contact and started typing a message.
"Hey sis, I'm eating at Ichiro's place I hope you don't mind"
She sent the message then waited a few minutes for a response, the reply was a simple "ok, have fun sis❤". Mizuki then turned off her phone and took off her wet shoes as Ichiro's mother lead her to the couch, as she waited for her boyfriend to come out of the shower.
31st of December, the start of the last year together.
Mizuki and Ichiro were holding hands while watching the fireworks blow in the sky, the air filled the deafening sounds of the fireworks and people shouting happily " Happy New Year". Mizuki and Ichiro looked at eachother for a moment, she couldn't resist the urge to kiss him to the point he was breathless. Why not starting another year of being together like this with a kiss? The thought swimmed to him almost immediately, now they both had the same urge, kissing until they were out of breath, a tentative hand grabbed her shoulder, a gentle yet firm grip, his eye winking at her as if to sign we're free.
Her lips approached his, slowly but surely, she was still hesitant for it, but Ichiro's senses came to the rescue, he winked again, as if telling her to go for it, she then became fully convinced and the two's lips met. He put a hand on her cheek, his touch gentle as a feather. On his wrist there was a pink bracelet, while on Mizuki's there was a blue one, those were matching bracelets she gifted him on Christmas day. They pushed in the kiss as it got a lot more intense than it was originally supposed to be, but they didn't care, they were enjoying themselves at least. The kiss was broken, their little quest was completed, they were completely out of breath, Mizuki was panting for air, her face reddened as she took in the cold midnight air as the fireworks continued shooting in the night sky decorated with stars and the full moon.
"You were taking away my breath, you know that?"
She scolded him jokingly, Ichiro giggled.
"Sorry my princess, I couldn't resist either."
A smirk crossed her face, along with a wink, as if to say We'll do it again next year, so prepare yourself this year.
Little did the two know was that their relationship wouldn't last for long because of something she was hiding. The two objects were just two of the few mementos before the last year came: a coat from his side, two bracelets from her side and just lots of affection and love, and now it felt like it has been thrown in the bin like meaningless, worthless trash, like those things were nothing in the first place. Why was it like this? What caused the relationship to suddenly end abruptly, making all those mementos useless?
Mizuki was sitting in front of the vanity, as various moments between her and Ichiro flood her mind, silly, heartwarming memories turning bittersweet, No, bittersweet wasn't the right word, THEY BECAME ATROCIOUS TO REMEMBER. She looked at the bracelet with a profound urge to destroy it, like it served nothing but just resurfacing pure resentment, disgust, deep melancholy and sadness. How could Ichiro break the lock that sealed them together for eternity. Poor Mizuki couldn't resist her anger, as she violently pulled the bracelet from her wrists as she stretched it until the rope snapped, beads flying everywhere like it was their sole purposes, just like the mementos that reminded her of her ex boyfriend.
"Why Ichiro... Why?"
No answers were given, only a mocking silence...
She turned on her phone, the wallpaper of her and the boy was now gone, its replacement? A plain white wallpaper, lacking of life, and just a complete contrast to Mizuki's personality, the more she looked at it the more it felt like an eyesore, she didn't have the energy to pick a cutesy pink wallpaper that would've distracted her from her predicament she only had a blank background, soulless, emotionless and a dull white that would pierce someone in the eye, possibly transmitting her pain, her disappointment.
