Chapter Text
The party was in full swing.
The common room, usually cold and quiet, was now warm from the Firewhiskey and, God knows, what else they had consumed; the quietness was replaced by the sound of music and chatter.
In a more reserved corner, where a couch and an armchair were seated, two boys sat away from the party, with a glass of red wine each, instead of Firewhiskey shots like everyone else.
They sat quietly, judging everyone drunk, sometimes making snarky comments about them.
Back where the dancing was happening, a girl the two boys easily recognised was swaying her hips, her back pressed to a guy's chest, a fellow Slytherin, probably a year older.
The blonde's eyes were in her, curious.
The one beside him noticed and spoke up. "Y/n. Turns heads everywhere she goes."
Draco hummed in response, not taking his eyes off her.
Theo raised his brow, an amused smirk on his lips. "You interested?"
He earned a scoff, but Draco's silence said everything.
"I don't recommend her. She doesn't settle." Draco gave him a glare, making him continue. "Fine, I'll find out what I can."
Draco nodded approvingly.

"And I am telling you that I don't care, Theo," Draco said for the third time that day.
His friend went around and heard some things about Y/n. His previous guess that she doesn't settle was right.
In fact, she is the total opposite.
A heartbreaker.
She didn't harbour feelings. She didn't stay. She had fun and left.
As much as it should've made Draco want to stay away, it made him want the opposite.
"Dude, I'm telling you, she's not a girl to play with."
"Who said I want to play her?" Draco replied to his friend.
Theo sighed and held up his hands in surrender. "Fine, fine. But don't tell me I didn't warn you. She'll make you work hard."
"I like a good challenge."
"She'll make you spend hard" he tried again
"Money was never a problem for me. Are you done, Nott?"
Theo nodded in acceptance. He wasn't going to win this fight, that much was clear.
"Good. Now.. When's the next party?"

Draco didn't expect the party to be so far away. But, he didn't complain. If he wanted to, he would've spoken to you by now. Because, of course, what Draco wants, he gets.
Instead, he made use of the time he had and observed you. The way your hips swayed when you walked. The way your lips curled around the straw of your morning juice, which he noticed you changed the flavor every day. The way your lips would curl only in a half smile when you found something amusing.
The day of the party came, and he was more than ready.
Instead of his usual wine, he opted for a glass of firewhiskey. He went to the table to refill it and... "coincidentally," you were there.
He poured himself a glass, then, with a raised brow, offered you some.
You gave him a faint smirk. "If you offer so nicely."
He poured the alcohol in your glass and spoke without looking up, "Having fun?"
You thank him for the drink, raising your glass to your lips, the taste burning down your throat. "Could've been better... my friend bailed early." And as if this was the plan all along, you looked at him with a slight smile, "Maybe you could keep me some company."
And of course he did. He wouldn't have refused anything you asked for.
And that's literally how the rest of the night went. He hatched drinks for you, alcoholic or not, sometimes without even having to ask him. He was also such a gentleman. Spoke like one, acted like one. The most he touched you was a brush of his hand on your back to help you through the crowd.
This surprised you, but not in a bad way. Usually, guys were more bold with both their touch and words. Their hands would linger on your hips, they would ask you to dance, and sometimes try to get you to drink more, to which they never succeeded.
But him? He didn't cross the line, not even once, in 4 hours of talking and wandering around.
Just what was his deal?
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
Things became much weirder for you once he started showing up more often.
He walked you to class, even the ones you didn't have together. Who does that?
He caught you outside in the halls past curfew, and instead of making a fuss about it (like any other prefect would), he helped you back inside, avoiding other prefects or teachers.
And of course, like the saint you were, you took advantage of that, and snuck out almost each time he was on prefect duty. It was more like a test you put up for him.
He didn't complain. Not once.
That's how you found yourself in the Astronomy Tower, watching the sky full of stars. When you heard footsteps behind you, you knew it was him.
Without turning, you spoke, "I believe there is a constellation with your name, isn't it?"
He came closer to you, resting his elbows on the railing. "You are right indeed."
"Not gonna show it to me?" you asked softly, turning to look at him, but he kept his eyes on the sky.
"I have a feeling you already know where to look." He made a slight pause and then looked you in the eyes, "I thought I told you not to play dumb with me."
He was right. Again.
You often played dumb to get with guys. It gives them an ego boost, makes them think they have the upper hand. It always worked if played correctly.
But not with Draco.
He figured it out every time. The innocent smile disappeared from your face when he said, "You already know that," when you asked him to help you with potions.
Instead of having to play dumb with him, he made you feel dumb.
Because, with all honesty, this guy was smart. And you didn't know what to think of him anymore.
He was breaking the plan. Your tricks don't work. And it wasn't just the dumb card. It was everything.
Making him get you out of trouble for roaming the school at night? He did it, no complaints.
Doing all the work in a potions project because you didn't feel like it? Didn't have to ask twice.
Making him jealous? He didn't even bat an eye.
He isn't falling. You are.
So now, when he looked in your eyes, telling you not to play dumb, you snapped, but tried to keep a cool demeanour.
"Maybe I really don't know."
"You never mentioned the constellation before, when we came up here, watching stars. You did mention now, so you researched it. I'm sure a drawing of it came up when you did so."
He spoke with such a calm manner that it made your blood boil. It was just an observation, but it felt like he was smug about being a step ahead of you.
So you did something that surprised you both.
Instead of replying with a snarky comment, you cupped his face with your hands and crashed your lips on his.
Now, you were sure he didn't expect that, because for a second, he stood still, but once he processed it, his hand was at the nape of your neck, pulling you closer, responding to the kiss, with more intensity than expected.
When you both pulled back for air, neither moved from the position. His eyes were on your lips that were slightly swollen from the moment you just shared. You preferred looking in his grey eyes, and even now, tried to read him.
And you couldn't help but take a look at his face altogether. He was his usual pale self, and in the moonlight you could see a hint of pink spreading to his cheeks.
It was a sight to behold.
And for the first time in months of not catching feelings...
You didn't want to break him.
You wanted him.

It went on like this for a couple weeks.
Nothing was official between you two, unlabeled, you could say.
But there were more moments like the one in the Astronomy tower, even though neither of you said anything about it afterwards.
Things barely changed.
He was still the same gentleman from the beginning.
When he started holding your hand under the table when you studied together in the library, it scared you.
Scared you, because he was making you feel things you didn't want. Because he gave you hope.
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
You were on your way to the Great Hall, ready for dinner, before another Slytherin party took place. It's been ages since the last one.
You reached the main hallway, but stopped in your path when you saw Draco.
Not only did you see him, but also a girl glued to his arm, holding on to him for her dear life.
Maybe it was a mistake. He'll reject the girl, right?
No.
He let her. She loosened the grip on his arm, but she put her head on his shoulder. They went together to the Great Hall, and you felt like bashing their heads together.
You forgot all about dinner and went towards the common room.
Fuck feelings and fuck Draco Malfoy.
He was just like every other guy, and you feel in his trap.
You felt stupid for getting too close.
Deep down, you always knew this was going to happen.
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
Draco was feeling more nervous than usual, even if he didn't let it show.
Tonight, he wanted to ask you to be his girlfriend.
Despite hating himself for needing help, he went to the only person who he was sure was going to help him and keep it a secret.
Pansy Parkinson.
"Are flowers too much?" he asked her, walking besides her to the Great Hall.
"Please, with Y/n, nothing is ever too much. Just be yourself, she sure seems to like that."
He stopped in his tracks, making her stop too.
"You'd better keep your mouth shut about this. I don't want the whole table to know I asked for... advice."
Pansy smiled, hugging his arm. "Ohh, poor Malfoy, needs girl advice," she laughed at him. "Don't worry, as long as you keep mine, I keep yours."
He rolled her eyes at her attitude. He knew how touchy the girl could be, but grew used to it over the years. "Yeah, yeah. I have no business in telling everyone you eat faces with Susan Bones in the prefects' bathroom."
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
Sitting alone at the party was not in Draco's plan.
Watching you dance so close, with a guy, wasn't part of it either.
Especially when you initiated a kiss with him. Right in front of Draco to see.
He kept his cold face on. Pretended he didn't care.
He was glad he left the flowers in the dorm.
But he wasn't glad that he got lead on.
What did he do wrong?
He made sure every day to show you he had only good intentions.
Yet here he was, wishing he had listened to Theo from the start.
Retreating to his room, he couldn't help but rethink every moment you shared, searching for what he did wrong.
'I wish I never ever met her at all."
