What a Pain(t) in the Ass

Summary:

It seems like they had different ideas when it came to painting their new house and seems like no one's willing to concede.

Uh-oh...

Work Text:

Park Jimin set the buckets of paint down with a prominent thud. He wiped his brow and stared at the wall, white and colorless. After him, Min Yoongi walked in the room and set brushes as well as newspapers in the room. Jimin barely noticed the male, too concentrated on the wall. He pursed his lips in deep thought, examining the space and imagining color combinations.

What could be a nice shade for it?

He stared at the dull surface. Something pastel could work. Cheerful and aesthetically pleasing. It would be easier to decorate too! Jimin grinned, pleased. But then suddenly, his grin was wiped off his face when another set of problem was introduced. What color?

He frowned. Then all of a sudden his face broke into yet another wide smile. Of course! Yellow. It's a happy and chipper shade. It's vibrant effect will surely brighten up anyone's day. Their new house needed as much joy as it could get after all. Jimin turned to the buckets and carefully mixed white paint with some leftover yellow paint that they (luckily) still had from last week's annual wall painting fest. The boy then carried the buckets of red, black and pink paint to a corner where he wouldn't trip over them. The boy already planning to use the remaining colors for later designs.

Jimin was just about to dip a brush in when he heard the impact of something heavy hit the floor. The boy turned to the sound only to see another bucket of paint. What the heck? His eyes trailed upwards. Following all the way to the stoic face of Yoongi. They both remained silent for a while until Jimin finally chose to break the silence.

"What is that?" Yoongi stared at him before saying, "Paint, obviously." shrugging nonchalantly to further deepen his point.

"Yes, I know that Yoongi. But why did you bring that in?" Jimin stated, eyeing the bucket skeptically. "I already know what were going to paint the house and it's gonna be-"

"Blue. I know that's why I brought this thing." Yoongi butted in, already starting to pry the lid off the paint bucket. Jimin gaped at the boy, shocked. The other didn't seem to give mind at all as he continued on with his task. Only when Yoongi was about to dip his brush inside did Jimin regain his senses. He wildly grabbed for his hands and stopped him from doing anything.

Yoongi frowned at him as he pried the other boy's hands of his wrists and stood up. His one centimeter advantage enabled him to (slightly) look down at the shorter one, giving him his best scowl. Undaunted, Jimin pursed his lips in displeasure while putting his hands on his hips.

"Oh no, you don't Min Yoongi!" He shouted, grabbing the elder's hands again and shaking it rather violently. "I know what you're doing, you bastard." Jimin literally shook from the intensity of his fury. "Stop forcing your wants to other people. You're not painting this house blue!"

Yoongi gritted his teeth, shaking off the annoying man in front of him. "I'm the older one so that means my decision weigh more." Jimin leaned forwards, not planning to back down. "Unjustified! In a relationship both partners decision weigh equally! There must be a mutual agreement!"

"I could say the same to you brat. You know how I hate brigh, flashy colours. That is a violation of the implied code between couples that you so kindly elaborated mere moments ago." Yoongi huffily spitted out, enraged. Jimin blushed bright red at the comment. "I-I would have asked you!" He shouted, flustered. "But you came in and just had to decide right off the bat without consultation!"

The two grown men had a staredown, neither one willing to compromise and give way for the other. As it was, two stubborn people in a relationship could have some hefty arguments over the littlest things.

It would have been minutes, hours of just the two of them scowling at each other like children if not for the next move Yoongi did. The said man broke the eyecontact, sidestepping the clueless male and making a blind attempt to slosh his brush in blue paint. He then made a mad dash for the wall and applied paint on the surface. He was able to accomplish his mission with ease, taking advantage of the temporary shock the other man was experiencing. He was just about to smother in more blue when he was roughly shoved to the side. Yoongi glared at Jimin as the former furiously dabbed a part of the wall yellow. After finishing, he gave the elder a mocking grin.

Yoongi growled in irritation and shoved his brush inside his bucket to gather more blue paint. He purposely made a show of lathering the paint to taunt the other boy. Jimin scowled as he grabbed his own bucket. He dipped his brush but instead of painting his side like Yoongi expected him to do, he flung the brush Yoongi's way so that droplets of yellow would stick to his already blue side.

"You little shit!" Yoongi growled at him and imitated Jimin, flinging his own brush. A squawk of indignation formed in Jimin's throat. Blue and yellow paint slowly began to merge and dry together, signalling the mark of an oncoming battle.

The next few minutes were filled with angry war cries, paint splatters and two drenched men. A combination of blues and yellows were haphazardly thrown here and there, mixing and conjoing each other. Paint bled through paint, wall to wall and even skin. Soon, anger turned to joy. Laughter filled the air and the once empty apartment grew to life. Squeals and boisterous giggles rang out as Yoongi caught Jimin's lithe form, lifting him in the air.

The smaller boy struggled but soon gave up, letting the other man do as he pleases. Yoongi set Jimin down on the ground, kissing him on the tippy tips of his ear on the way down. Jimin happily laughed as he turned around, smiling cheekily. He pecked Yoongi's lips and smeared paint on the elder's face. Yoongi laughed as he followed suit and they ran around the space once more.

If not for the newspapers on the floor, the two men would have slipped and had an accident but as it were, they couldn't care less. They chased each other until they began tire and collapsed on the floor. Sitting side by side, they stared at the messy wall. Blues and yellows converged together on the wall. Some dripped downwards while other parts started to dry. They turned to look at each other.

They took their brushes and began their magic. Side by side, they created beautiful art. Yoongi swirled his brush into circles and yellow paint bled into blue. Jimin held his own and manipulated a blob of blue paint over yellow. They didn't talk to discuss the design, they just painted. They painted and painted and painted. No words were exchanged, just trust. Trust and confidence in the other party. Finishing what the other started. Balancing and complementing. Blue and yellow. Spontaneous and reserved. Two opposites in one palette. Park Jimin and Min Yoongi, together.

They took a step back and admired their work, hands linked and heart full. Indeed, this has got to be the best they've made so far and together to say the least.

If you ask Jimin and Yoongi the inspiration to their crazy, funky walls, they'll only smile secretively and say, "An argument."

fin.
