Chapter Text
Gotham City, NJ
7:45 PM
A veritable tide of rain poured onto the drab streets of Gotham, a seemingly infinite wave of civilians darted through the streets with umbrellas, newspapers, whatever could protect them from the monsoons that seemed to hit Gotham every other day. Thunder crackled loudly as a golden Blonde haired girl rushed through the crowds, her black slip dress and leather coat becoming soaked as her high boots filled with the water that seemed to coat everything.
“Fuck me.” said Stephanie Brown, looking down at her outfit as she darted into an open alley, ducking under a outcrop hanging over a dilapidated garage door. The glow of the moonlight illuminated everything around her with a dim glow, as the assorted drab light fixtures helped paint a picture of a decaying city.
Cars rushed past and threw water across the sidewalk as their horns blared, drowning out Steph’s thoughts as she thought about the amount of work she’d have to do to fix her curls when she got home, her mom would be so worried about how long she took getting home, it was already so hard to hide her not-so-secret nocturnal activities, being in her good graces was necessary. The rain made hearing anything but blaring noises impossible.
Stephanie caught her breath, opening her pocket mirror and examining her face, and to her horror she spotted several marks of mascara and eyeliner running down her face. “Today just keeps getting better and better, huh?” She remarked, sarcastically, as she sighed and put away the mirror, adjusting her pocketbook and checking her surroundings for any danger. Crack! Stephanie practically jumped, heart racing as she lifted her fists for a possible fight as she realized it simply had been a bottle dropped from the roof. But as she pondered this, a familiar feeling crept into her body, feeling her tense nerves dissipate with the feeling of calm that washed over her.
“Oh, Batgirl… we gotta stop meeting like this.” said Stephanie, looking up as the lightning struck somewhere in the city, illuminating the fire escape above her as the silhouette of Batgirl appeared, hanging on the railing ominously as Stephanie chuckled, “Babe, this may not be the best time. This rain absolutely ruined my look…” She said, smugly. Her eyes fluttered as she marveled at the figure above her, the bat’s beautiful form and waving cape igniting something deep within her.
Batgirl suddenly reached inside her belt, retrieving a thin cord and attaching it to her waist, turning over and suddenly descending upside down. Stephanie blushed and internally squealed. She and Batgirl had seen each other many times over the last few months. Steph had first seen the nearly mystical figure as she had passed a crime scene, which was unfortunately common in this city.
She had passed through the crowd surrounding the scene, locking stares with Batgirl, who lurked ominously next to the Police Commissioner beyond the yellow tape and officers keeping the journalists at bay. Ever since that night, Steph had seen her lurking on rooftops above her, staring at her as if seeing into her very soul. She had felt her presence almost every night, but her curiosity got the best of her tonight, as this time, Steph had been the one to seek her out.
Stephanie saw her up close for the first time, as the radiant figure of Batgirl hovered upside down above her, face only inches away from her own as a deep blush crept up into her cheeks and chest, warmth spreading through her as she took a step forward, ignoring the pouring rain as she craved something more than her trivial day to day desires. Stephanie admired the cute stitching above Batgirl’s mouth, ‘Maybe she likes to sew… cute.’ the slight curls of Batgirl’s mouth moved as she uttered the first words Steph had ever heard from her secret admirer, “You look… radiant.”, She said, with the most beautiful, soothing voice she had ever heard.
Stephanie blushed deep and swiped some hair softly to behind her ear, eyes darting as she did a half-laugh, “Oh… my. After all these months of encountering you like a cryptid… so worth it.” She said, nervously, as she lifted her hands slowly towards Batgirl’s face, as the gloved hand of her secret admirer gripped her wrist protectively. Steph recoiled internally as Batgirl quickly realized her mistake, eyes dropping under her mask as she released Steph softly.
The blonde girl took a step back, anticipating the worst as her heart began to race, as Batgirl said tenderly, “Sorry, not used to this… Can we try again, please?” Stephanie’s heart swelled with curious love as she stepped forward cautiously, hands raising to grip the edges of Batgirl’s mask, fingers curling around the edges as her eyes communicated warmth and comfort, “It’s okay, you can let me in. I’m Stephanie… by the way.” the Blonde girl said, a half smile creeping into her face as Batgirl said, in nearly a whisper, “Steph…”
Stephanie chuckled, gingerly, “That’s it. I’m going to lower this a little bit, okay? Tell me when to stop.” She said, her eyes drifting up and across Batgirl’s curves and slender figure, ‘She’s so beautiful…’ Steph thought, settling down back towards her face as she brought the mask down slowly, tantalizingly slow as the first inches of soft olive colored skin made their way into the chilled air as Steph saw her Batgirl’s full lips and angelic face for the first time, taking a gulp and gasping as she said, jokingly, “Good to know you’re human.” Batgirl’s mouth curled into a soft smile as she laughed quietly, her vulnerability showing for the first time as her laugh filled Steph with waves of soft love for the girl before her.
As Stephanie brought the mask down to above her mouth, Batgirl reached up and softly tapped Stephanie’s arm with her gloved hand, “No more tonight.” She said, Stephanie reaching her hands from the edges of the mask to bring them up as she nodded at Batgirl, caressing the Bat’s face as she settled her hands on her admirer’s cheeks, thumbs grazing the beautiful canvas before her as her smile grew, body becoming even more damp from the rain, but in the euphoric haze of crossing this line, she completely ignored it.
Stephanie’s eyes settled on Batgirl’s full, soft looking lips as she imagined herself… kissing the vigilante who had been borderline stalking her. Steph thought, ‘She must’ve had a pretty messed up childhood, becoming one of the bats probably entails having that on their resume. Maybe she needed to see me, like I needed to see her…’ Steph’s eyes fluttered in and out as she watched Batgirl’s lips settle to being slightly agape, looking so kissable as she heard nothing but the tremble of Batgirl’s gentle breaths, as she leaned in…
Stephanie brought her lips towards Batgirl’s, lips crashing together in the most gentle but passionate form ever, both of their bodies aching from the buildup to this moment, Batgirl reaching up with one arm to caress Steph’s waist as the Blonde girl moaned into Batgirl’s mouth, body shivering as they kissed, the sweet mix of their saliva and the taste of their lips intoxicating their senses, ‘She tastes like Tea… Lavender.’ Steph thought as she kissed the mysterious figure, her mind never feeling anything like this before.
She had been slightly experienced, and had her fair share of blunderous relationships and kisses, but nothing was like Batgirl. Her presence was like a drug, one she would be glad to be addicted to for the rest of her days. The two kept kissing softly, lips parting for not even a few milliseconds before crashing back together, Steph moaning quietly into Batgirl’s mouth as they embraced. This moment seemed to last forever, Steph’s hand caressing Batgirl’s silky skin with her thumbs as her heart and soul begged for more. But unfortunately, nothing magical can last forever.
Buzz! A soft vibration moved through Steph’s pocket as she recoiled, looking towards Batgirl as the other girl nodded, giving permission for the Blonde girl to examine her phone. Steph reached in her pocket, mentally cursing as she swore vengeance on whoever had interrupted the greatest kiss she had ever had,
MOM: Hey sweetie, will you be home soon? Try not to fall asleep in the library again.
Stephanie: On my way! Heavy traffic on 4th.
Stephanie closed her flip phone, tucking it in her pocket as she brought her eyes back to Batgirl’s, not being able to read her expressions but knowing she felt the same thing the blonde girl had been feeling since the moment they met. “Sorry, I sort of didn’t tell my mom about this… she thinks I'm at the library.” Steph said, laughing awkwardly as the tension and magic of the kissing had dissipated, the sounds of the world around her returning to her ears as she saw batgirl turn her head to the side like a newborn puppy, her mouth creasing as she said, “Came to see me?”
Steph blushed and put her arms behind her as she said, legs rocking back and forth casually as she replied, “I have been really wanting to… see you.” As Steph said this, she could swear she saw a subtle blush creep in on Batgirl’s cheeks, her mouth opening softly as if to say something. After a noticeable pause, as if contemplating, she said, “Cassandra, or Cass.”
Steph’s heart surged as she took it in, ‘Cassandra… What a beautiful name. Cass… Cassie.’ She thought as Batgirl leaned closer, Steph finally replying, “Can I call you Cassie?” Batgirl paused and reached a hand behind Steph’s soaked neck, hands trailing around her damp hair as she pulled her forward softly, “You can call me whatever you like.” Cass said. Tenderly, as Stephanie replied, playfully, “Mmmm… I suppose one more for good luck, huh?” Cassandra smiled and blushed, leaning in as Steph brought her hands to Cass’ neck again, chest flushing with butterflies as her hands roamed Batgirl’s face. The two kissed again softly, their mouths tantalizingly rubbing together softly with each kiss, Steph playfully sucking on Cass’ lower lip as they embraced.
After a moment, Steph released Cass, painfully, the two recoiled and took a step back as if releasing waves of tension with each moment that passed from their kissing. Batgirl nodded toward Stephanie as the Blonde girl said, flirtatiously, “You probably know where I live, don’t you?” Cassandra flushed, arms shrugging as her gaze drifted away from Stephanie out of embarrassment, which caused Steph to smile and think, ‘She’s the cutest thing to ever exist.’
“You can always come and see me, you know? Can you put in a PTO request with Batman or… how does that work?” Stephanie said, softly as Cassandra nodded, enthusiastically. Steph chuckled, taking another step back as she said, “See you soon, Cassie.” Batgirl smiled and reached up to slide her mask down to cover herself again, her figure disappearing into the night as the lights around Stephanie faded out, flickering wildly until they returned to equilibrium a moment later, Cass disappearing like a shroud into the darkness.
Once the lights returned to normal, Stephanie fell back against the nearest wall underneath the outcrop as she felt her legs grow wobbly, her heart racing as butterflies raged in her system, the fairy tale beginning with her Cassie lighting a flame in her heart. This flame, this love, was something that could never be extinguished in her heart. Not after tonight, this was the beginning of a sweet love story that had lifted Stephanie’s heart in a way that no person had ever made her feel before. Her future, her Cassandra, was her true love, the one she had least expected, but maybe the one she had been looking for all along.
