You closed your eyes, hands pressing against your knees as you tried to recover your breathing.
The last Wanderer vanished from existence with the last stroke of your sword. That meant you were finally free to go back home.
Looking at your Hunter’s watch, your eyes widened as it flashed 2am in bright, big numbers.
"I need to go"
Memories of Zayne’s latest message plagued your mind while you rushed to your car.
It felt like hours ago when you told him you were on your way to him. Seconds after that, however, the alarm resounded on your wrist, alerting you that the Metaflux was going haywire. You were tired, but your main mission was to protect the citizens from being attacked. So, giving a glance to the rest of your team, you run into battle, thoughts of your lover backed to a corner of your mind.
With light steps, you entered the apartment. You opened the door with your key, for good measure. It was wishful thinking that Zayne would be asleep, but it was better to be safe than sorry.
Taking off your boots and outer clothes, you sighed in relief. You walked to the living room, where you found all the lights were turned off. That could only mean Zayne was already in your room.
You stopped by the kitchen, your chest warming up seeing the plate with sweets your boyfriend had left for you on the counter. Your lips formed a soft smile as you chewed on it, before walking down the hall and into the bedroom.
The scenery over your bed almost made you cry happy tears on the spot.
With the comforter draped over his body, Zayne was fast asleep, taking most of the bed with his tall figure. Moonlight streamed through the curtains, bathing his skin on silver tones.
Still awed with his handsomeness, you changed into your pajamas in silence, before slowly getting into bed.
It wasn't an easy task, however, as Zayne always woke up at the softest of sounds.
Unbelievably so, you were already under the covers and with his arm over your back when he shifted, eyes blinking sluggishly before focusing on your face.
"You're here"
His husky voice felt like a warm balm to your soul.
"Yes, I am" you whispered as you got closer to him.
A sweet smile pulled at his lips, brightening his beautiful eyes, while his arm draped more tightly around you.
Looking at his face, you couldn't stop yourself from pecking his nose, at which his brow scrunched up.
"Go back to sleep, love"
Zayne hummed in return, eyes closing again.
You were finally home, you realized, with his limbs intertwined with yours and soft breaths fanning over your cheeks.
"I love you" he mumbled, already half asleep, lightly nuzzling and kissing your forehead.
"I love you too, Zayne"
Under the moonlight, you promised to yourself again you'd do whatever it took to keep the both of you safe. No matter who you needed to fight against.
