It’s a Love Story, Baby, She Say Yes

Summary:

The August sun was setting over Kansas City, and the garden of Taylor and Travis’s home glowed softly with lanterns and candles. Outside, the air was perfumed with flowers, while inside, laughter and tender glances hinted at something magical. That night promised to be unforgettable—the moment they would say yes and begin a new chapter together.

Notes:

I wrote this based on some things Ed Kelce said and some things in my head. I hope you like it. WE WERE INVITED TO THE WEDDING!💕

Work Text:

August 10th in Kansas City was bidding farewell to the sun, painting the sky in golden and orange hues that blended with the deep blue of the arriving night. Inside the house, the New Heights episode had just finished recording, and Taylor and Travis were laughing at the scenes, still commenting on the details and teasing each other. But Travis felt a delicious anxiety, a nervous flutter in his chest that he couldn’t control. Every second was bringing him closer to the moment he had been silently planning for months: the proposal. He wanted everything to be perfect, unforgettable. She deserved that.

Meanwhile, outside, the garden was being transformed into a magical scene. Glass lanterns hung from the trees, flickering gently in the breeze. Candles lined the path leading to a perfectly set table with two crystal glasses and a bottle of wine. Soft-toned flower arrangements were carefully placed, their fragrance mingling with the fresh evening air. Every element seemed orchestrated to create an intimate and enchanting atmosphere.

Inside, Taylor was getting ready for what she thought was just a dinner date— a little white lie Travis had told her. Since August 10th was their anniversary, it was the perfect day, and a “celebratory dinner” was the perfect excuse.

She chose a casual, light-colored dress that draped softly over her shoulders, delicately highlighting her natural shape. Her hair fell in loose waves, her lips touched with a soft blush of lipstick. She sighed at her reflection in the mirror, feeling a sweet, inexplicable anticipation.

Travis, wearing light gray dress shorts and a navy blue polo, leaned against the hallway wall, watching Taylor descend the stairs. His heart was pounding, but he tried to appear calm, his lips curving into a contained smile.

“Wow… you’re way too dressed up for just any dinner, Mr. Kelce,” Taylor teased, raising an eyebrow, though her playful smile gave her away.

“Hmm… and you think a simple dinner is enough to impress my girl?” he replied, walking slowly toward her.

Taylor laughed, tilting her head. “You’re suspiciously dressed up tonight… for your standards. Are you hiding something?”

“Me?” He feigned surprise, pressing a hand to his chest. “I never hide anything from you, Tay. Maybe… maybe I just have a few tricks up my sleeve tonight.” His grin was mischievous.

“Nervous?” she teased, raising an eyebrow. “Why would you be nervous before dinner? We’re just going out to eat, aren’t we?”

“Ah… but you don’t understand. This is a special dinner,” he said with an enigmatic smile, stepping closer. “A dinner… just the two of us, on our anniversary.”

“Just us?” Taylor echoed, her eyes sparkling, keeping her voice playful. “That sounds… suspicious.”

“Maybe a little suspicious… but I promise nothing bad is going to happen,” he said, extending his hand. “I just want to share a glass of wine with you before we go… in the garden.”

Taylor narrowed her eyes in mock suspicion. “In the garden? Travis… you’re not planning some crazy surprise, are you?”

“It’s not crazy, it’s… magical,” he said, trying to keep a straight face but failing when a nervous smile slipped out. “Trust me. I just want a few extra moments with you, sweet.”

She laughed, slipping her hand into his, shaking her head. “Fine… you’re making me way too curious. But just know, if there’s any sign of a disaster—”

“No disasters, I swear,” he said, laughing with her. “Just a moment for us. One that we’ll remember forever.”

Taylor took a breath, gazing at him. “You’re acting strange, Travis… but I like this side of you.” She tilted her head, teasing again. “But you’ll tell me if there’s a surprise, won’t you?”

“Hmm… maybe I’ll tell you at the right time,” he said with playful mystery, his eyes burning with sincerity. “Now… will you come with me?”

“All right… but if I trip in your ‘surprise,’ you’ll regret it!” she said, laughing, linking her arm with his as he led her to the garden door.

When Travis slid open the glass door, the garden revealed itself. Taylor froze on the first step, her eyes widening. Lights twinkled among the trees, reflecting across the lawn. Candles cast a soft glow along the path leading to the table. The air was filled with the fragrance of flowers, and the gentle sound of a small fountain completed the magic. She walked slowly, taking in every detail, her breath quickening, her eyes shimmering.

“Travis…” she whispered, nearly breathless. “You did this?”

“Yes… just for us,” he said, taking her hand firmly and pulling her gently closer.

He took a steadying breath, his gaze fixed on hers, and began to speak, his words laced with emotion and playful memory:

“Tay… do you remember that friendship bracelet I tried to give you at the Eras Tour? The one with my number?” He smiled sheepishly. “I know, I know… you didn’t want to meet me.”

Taylor burst out laughing, shaking her head.

“You had no logical plan, Travis! You thought just because you knew the elevator girl, you could sneak down into my private section!”

He chuckled, cupping her face tenderly.

“And I’d do it all over again, because somehow, it still led me to you. The best ‘crazy idea’ I ever had.”

She laughed again, her eyes glistening now with tears. The weight of the moment hit her like a train. Her hands trembled as she realized what was happening.

“When I first saw you on the Eras stage, I thought: ‘Wow… she’s unbelievable.’ But nothing I saw on stage compares to the real you. Once I met you, I realized you’re even more impressive: human, kind, loving, patient. Every moment with you makes me admire you more. The way you care for people, the way you always make sure everyone around you feels happy and safe. The way you treat your parents… my parents. The way you’ve fit so perfectly into my world. Your work ethic. How you dove into football even though you knew nothing at first. Tay… you amaze me.”

He pressed his forehead lightly to hers, his thumbs brushing away her tears.

“I’ve always wanted to build a family. Always dreamed of it. But there was a time I felt lost. I thought maybe I’d never find the right person. I started to feel like I was getting older without ever building the life I wanted… And then… I met you. Everything was changed.”

Taylor’s tears spilled freely now, her chest rising with each shaky breath. The garden, the scent of flowers, his arms around her—it was all unforgettable.

“You’re the person I want to fall asleep next to and wake up with every day. The woman I want to be the mother of my kids. I want a house filled with laughter and chaos—kids with your blonde hair and your eyes, running around, making noise. I want to grow old with you, live every stage of life with you. I want to be 110 years old and still by your side. I want it all, Tay—sleepless nights with babies, crazy teenagers, white hair, wrinkles. I can’t imagine doing any of it with anyone else but you.”

His voice cracked as he slid one hand down her arm, holding her hand tightly, then dropped to one knee, the other hand trembling as it held the velvet box.

“I know life can be chaotic, and we laugh at so much, but you’re my home, my best part. I want to spend every day loving you, making you smile, creating memories only we’ll share.” He opened the box, revealing the dazzling ring. “Taylor Swift… will you marry me?”

“Yes!” she cried, laughing through her tears. “Yes, Travis!”

He stood, lifting her into his arms, hugging her tightly as her tears dampened his shoulder. She clung to him, laughing and crying all at once, holding on as if she’d never let go.

When he finally pulled back, he lifted her hand delicately. “May I?” he asked softly, his hand trembling.

She giggled through her tears, biting her lip. “Do you even have to ask?”

With near-reverence, he slid the ring onto her left hand, where it fit perfectly, as if it had always belonged there.

“Perfect,” he whispered, still holding her hand. “Now everyone will know officially that you’re mine, and I’m yours. Forever.”

She raised her hand, staring at the sparkling eight-carat diamond, her mouth falling open. “Trav… it’s beautiful. I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s so, so beautiful.”

“I designed it just for you, sweetheart,” he said proudly.

“You did this? You designed this?” she gasped, stunned.

“You deserve something as unique as you, Tay.” He kissed her softly.

“You’re the best of them all,” she whispered, her eyes shining. “I can’t wait to be your wife.”

Travis grinned, pulling her back into his arms. “And nothing will ever be greater than the two of us together.”

“TNT, baby,” she said with a mischievous smile, making him burst into laughter.

This love changed the prophecy!
