All About You

Summary:

Jack gives a short interview, about his favorite person

Work Text:

Jack was good at giving interviews, that much was a fact. He was able to keep it cool, calm and collected in front of a camera. He didn't forget what he wanted to say, or stumble over any words. He really was the ideal candidate to talk to about a situation.

At least until someone asked him about his relationship.

It was pretty common knowledge Jack had a partner, or at least someone important in his life, because he'd stopped his “rescue order” of attractive people first. When he showed up, he saved the people in most need of help, and then went down the line- which was a vast improvement in everyone's eyes.

Villains? He didn't have any issue with them either, no “playing with his food” as they say. He went in, handled the problem, and left, which meant he didn't stick around to take interviews afterwards either.

Until today, one reporter was able to grab his attention before he took off, “I can give you 10 minutes,” Jack sighed, looking just the tiniest bit annoyed about the attention. The reporter made sure to write that down, as that was odd for the normally attention seeking super.

“Alright, we won't keep you long!” The reporter agreed, with a little bit of forced cheerfulness, “could you run us through what happened, in your own words?”

Jack nodded, describing what had started the altercation, the crime the villain was guilty of, the difficulty of arresting them, as the reporter scribbled down notes.

Each question was answered gracefully, with as much explanation as Jack could give, until the reporter's last question, “so we've been hearing rumors that you've started dating someone- could you tell us about them?”

Jack's cheeks flushed a shade of red that was not unlike a tomato, “dating someone? I'm not sure what you're talking about.”

The reporter laughed softly, to themselves, “well, if you don’t have a partner, then you’ve definitely changed, can you talk us through that?”

That question did put Jack on the spot and he wasn’t quite sure how to answer, so he sighed, and ran a hand through his hair- mussing the usually tidy locks, “if you must know, I am.. seeing someone, but it hasn't affected my work as a hero.”

The reporter actually agreed with him there, “this is true, your approval ratings have skyrocketed, and the amount of people rescued in a tragedy situation, by you, has also jumped up, have they played any type of role in that?”

Jack nodded, “indirectly, I think. We don't really talk about what I do as a hero, but I want them to be proud of me when they see the news. I don't save people for their approval or anything, but I want them to know I'm trying my best.”

The person conducting the interview was able to pry a few more answers out of Jack, not that it was hard to get him to talk about how much he loved you. The interview only ended because the reporter had to get back and type up their notes, “thank you for your time! I got some really good stuff,” they said as they walked away.

Jack just nodded, already lifting off. He wondered as he flew back towards the agency headquarters, if you'd like the interview he gave. He was serious about wanting to impress you, and make sure you were proud of the work he was doing, and serious when he said how much you meant to him. He also wondered if he flew up the fire escape if you'd just let him in, so he wouldn't have to change at the agency, and walk home.

You should be off work by now, so hypothetically you should let him in, you loved him, you wouldn't leave him outside. That's what he told himself as he changed directions and flew towards your shared apartment.
