Work Text:

Lightner On Duty!

Kris heard that voice, soft as a cloud and confident as student president. It was Asriel, Kris's dearest older brother, that came back from college. Kris got out of the bed and felt from the moment that their legs touched the floor that something was finally missing: they weren't a puppet anymore, they weren't being controlled by someone else, Kris was finally having their real moment and they could be someone for the very first time in their life, they could get a poster, anything.

But something was changing in the distance that would make them do responsible things for their own dear town.

Kris walking was much lighter than their usual monotone walking, they looked around the room and noticed how much the soul messed around with them in their own life. The room split in two ways for him: the normal kid way and looner kid way (Kris was The Looner Kid). Kris’s part was like watching a movie without colors and Asriel’s looked like a kids movie, but at least now they were free now, free from being the puppet from their own body.

Free.

Kris walked towards the exit of the bedroom and opened the door, there was Asriel right there with an awkward smile on his face and Kris looked like they saw a ghost and started slowly hugging them, they actually like taking hugs from their older monster brother, and couldn't wait any longer to make new memories from that on.

Asriel entered the room and decided (with the approval of Kris) to put posters in the side of Kris, he put up a horror-like version of the ICE-E, it was the very first favorite poster of Kris by now, amazing that anyone would ask for. And an upgraded version of Kris's sweater, a black hood and lances, looks like Asriel really had fun at the college. And final, but not less important, a green apron for Kris titled “COOL HAIRSTYLE BROTHER”.

Kris had a nice idea in their mind, “Asriel…” said Kris. “Why don't we bake a pie to celebrate your return?” Asriel was really happy with Kris's idea for the pie and decided to watch him over while they were preparing the pie. They rushed to the kitchen and decided to mix everything that the recipe was telling them to do, without being controlled. The steps went smoothly and the pie was already in the oven, but something went really wrong in the living room. Asriel was the first to notice, there was a faint, but clear sound of someone sniffing. It wasn't a pleasant one however, it was probably like something was wrong with the town.

Kris will never think that their race was there, and it wasn't peaceful.

Asriel and Kris walked towards the living room, and noticed that their mother, Toriel, wasn't having the most happy expression on her face right now. No, Toriel was crying. She was crying in front of the TV because it was happening, the cruelest thing in the world of the monsters, their dear town was being attacked by the Human Race. The race of Kris.

The town was at war, but the humans were the ones who were winning against the monsters, Officer Undyne was being held down by four humans and beaten up by one of them. The Mayor, Carol, was being protected in the building, but the door couldn't resist any longer and might have broken at any second. At the front of the school, there was a big stand, and there, Asgore Dreemurr, being tied up to wrists to feets, the humans were punching him, that is not fair, Asgore is out numbered.

Toriel and Asriel were crying heavily, but Kris was looking at the humans like they were the only true monsters in this situation, because being a monster is not being born with but to become that way. In Kris, their skin had every vein in the body and the eyes, that was the last straw, and Kris now understands why monsters didn't like the human race, because they are an irrational and barbaric race, why come to this small town when there is a city called Big Town.

But something had changed in the sequence of the Live Stream of the NEWS, because Kris had noticed the dark spots around the town and those were really familiar to them because, unfortunately, they were keeping a big secret to their family. They were a Lightner. The leader of the party. They wanted to tell but dignity told him not to.

Meanwhile, Toriel and Asriel were sighing in relief for the help from those card-like guards that were coming out from those dark spots. “I don't know who they are,” Asriel said while wiping the tears from his eyes, “but they're helping us a lot for this fight.” Toriel nodded in relief while hugging Asriel.

Kris was still feeling angry about the humans and if he knew himself greatly, he would know that they would find a way to regain the confidence and arrogance from before. Those guards were really holding them back off, but how much could their force and will would last? From that though, a human came to the stage, and pointed a knife to the neck of Asgore and said with all his chest “Stop right now or the goat gets killed!”

That was the final straw with a final word, Kris sighed and said

“No more holding back, now I'm changing like I was made to be, because I'm the Lightner, voice of the party, let's show this race…” Kris smiled. “...that they aren't the only one that has a secret weapon on their side.”

Kris's body started to be surrounded by dark smoke, circling him until his form was one of that darkness. Asriel, looking at the TV more worried, looked at his sibling and was shocked to see dark black smoke around them. He reached out to save them, but the smoke disappeared with Kris on it. That was literally the weirdest thing he saw.

Meanwhile in the Darkworld…

“So,” The Knight said, while extending his arms to the different versions of Ralsei. “What is your plan, dear princes of Darkness? What miracle could save you from this tragedy that will happen? My people will finally have their Justice from all of that neglect they suffered…!”

The Ralsei’s were out of solutions, but the air was shifting, making form a little tornado behind The Knight, and transforming into a God.

“Hello, traitor, Lightner number 2. My name is Delta RUNE and I'm the very first Lightner that came up to this Darkworld. I first met Seam and Jester, and with them we were the best team of the Royal Palace. Tell me, Lightner Number 2, why did you come to this place? Did you come because you wanted to give your people peace or you wanted war for the Hometown of your creation?”

The Knight was too stunned to speak, Delta looked like he was really angry towards him, but he tried to play it cool. “Great Delta RUNE, please accept my dedication. I'm just trying to find a peaceful place for my people, so we can have a nice place to stay, to make new memories.”

Delta looked more angry than before but put on an angry smile and said “You know, the difference between you and those people of you, and those creatures that you call ‘monsters’ is that. At the end of the massacre you will say to yourself ‘We are the Heroes of our story’, meanwhile those creatures said after earning the Hometown said ‘We are the monsters of our story'. That explains that you are no better and that you are just a barbaric human who couldn't wait for the rescuers much longer and you would only idolize that. But the creatures who lived that killed before, they don't idolize what happened in the past but they are praying for those little souls that they took.”

The Knight was boiling with anger in his face, he gritted his teeth and looked really angry at Delta and screamed “You don't know anything about my people! We waited there for so many years and nobody came to save us! Do you know what it's like to be locked in the Underground for so many years!?”

Delta was unimpressed from the snap from the Knight and answered “Of course I do, my people came from that time that we were sealed in that specific situation, but we had fun in there and we didn't want to get away from there, so we waited while playing with the kids. Because it was nice to see things from others' perspectives, it did even come up with new technology. You are just a brat, The Knight.”

Delta continued with a smirk “But thank you for your stubbornness, you really did trigger my being to free Kris from the Player grasp, now you will be erased from this world and you will never manipulate this power of yours ever again. You will die like a monster.”

Delta snapped his fingers, The Knight was still confident he was bluffing and laughed at his face but he did fall because he couldn't feel his feets anymore. Because his feets were now ashes, The Knight screamed but it was all in vain, he flew away in ashes.

Before Delta vanished

he let a phrase lingered in the air:

“Lightner on duty!”
