Work Text:

“Sorry for the intrusion~♪”

Kaoru walks into Koga’s apartment just as he flips the light switch. He rapidly blinks his eyes, forcing them to adjust to the blinding light. It’s a stark contrast to how dark it was on their walk here.

Kaoru’s a little wobbly. He's pretty drunk. He and Koga spent the night with the rest of UNDEAD and all their support staff at the after-party for their anniversary concert. Rei overdid it, so Adonis offered to take him home early. Even though Kaoru shares an apartment with Rei he couldn't help but accept Adonis' offer; After all, he wanted to keep drinking and Adonis wasn't usually one for these kinds of parties. Though, that didn't stop Kaoru and Koga from making fun of the old man who couldn’t hold his liquor. Yet here Kaoru is a few hours later, having made the same mistake as their leader. He was much too drunk to make it back to their place alone. Luckily Koga’s place is a bit closer.

“Relax,” Koga huffs. His voice is shaky as he’s pretty drunk himself. “It’s not like you’ve never been over before.”

“I haven’t seen the new apartment though. Has it been tough since you moved out of the dorms?”

“‘Course not. Me and Leon do better on our own anyway. It’s probably better here than the place you’re sharing with Sakuma.”

“Yes yes~ our place is a disaster. Who knew that once the old man was free of Eichi he was going to run wild.”

Leon runs up to the pair, shoving his nose at where Kaoru’s taking off his shoes. He almost topples, having to brace his hand back against the door to stay upright, before leaning down to give the dog a good petting.

“Hey little guy~♪ it’s been a bit,” Kaoru says with a fluff of his fur. Leon seems to smile back, his big puppy eyes gleaming in the light.

“Leon’s getting to be a bit of an old man himself. Don’tcha be too rough with ‘em now.”

“I’d never hurt the old guy.” Leon licks at Kaoru’s hand, and Kaoru’s elated that he’s happy to see him again. He pulls off his mask and glasses and leans down to let Leon leave puppy kisses on his face. So cute~

UNDEAD have been so busy with work lately that they haven't had a proper non-work outing with the five of them, Leon included of course, in a few months. Though, now that the big anniversary concert is over they’ll finally have some time off. Perhaps they should rent a small villa in Europe for a weekend, ooo or maybe they could take a cruise? So many options...

“Earth ta playboy–” Koga waves his hand in Kaoru’s face. “Are you so drunk that you’re going to pass out in my genkan?”

“I’m not that drunk~. Me and Rei-kun have done way worse than this before.”

“Please don’t remind me of Adonis’s 20th birthday party. How I ended up cleaning up your puke off of my dorm floor I’ll never understand.”

“We’ve already apologized a billion times! We just wanted to show our juniors a good time and went a little overboard.”

“A little?” Leon whines along with his master. How cute~ Kaoru can’t help but pet him even more.

“Okay a LOT overboard. That was over a year ago now though! And you and Tatsumi-kun have both moved out since. So perhaps you could cut me a little slack?”

“Fine. Just remember that I’ve never gotten so drunk that I threw up on the floor.”

“Yes yes my responsible junior holds his liquor much better than his seniors do. I’m really not that drunk right now though, I worked it all off on the walk here. My words aren’t even slurring, see?”

“Up for another round then?” Koga offers, pulling some kind of whiskey out of his pantry and setting it on his kitchen island.

Kaoru stands from where he’s petting Leon with a relaxed smile. He slips on some indoor slippers before taking a seat at Koga’s island counter. Despite living alone, Koga has four chairs. Perhaps he plans on inviting the whole unit over for dinner sometime. He can’t say Rei and him didn’t have the same idea when they picked out their kitchen set, but Rei insisted on five so he could fit all the eccentrics.

“I don’t have any of those fancy glasses so we’ll just have to make due.” Koga pours their drinks and Kaoru takes a sip. It’s drier than what he had been drinking at the bar, but he’s too drunk to complain.

“Whiskey out of a mug that says Dog Dad .” Kaoru says. “How charming.”

“Yeah well. Wouldn’t be the first time.” Leon prances up to Koga’s chair and circles his feet.

“You drink alone?”

“Not often. Sometimes after a job if it’s been too stressful.”

“You’ve gotta be careful about that. Rei-kun does the same thing with wine. But too much and it’ll become something you can’t stop.”

“Yeah and we’re idols. We gotta keep good face.”

Kaoru sets his drink down and narrows his eyes. “Even if we weren’t idols.”

“Damn, you care about me that much Hakaze-senpai?”

“Drop the senpai thing already, would you? We’re both in our 20s.”

“Fine.” Koga takes a long sip of his drink. “What do you want me to call you then?”

“Honest to god playboy is fine; Or just Kaoru if you want something more normal.”

“Kaoru it is then. You can drop the kun too ya’know.”

Hmm, just Koga. Feels a little weird when Kaoru still calls Rei Rei-kun. Rei did say he could drop that too though. Maybe the time has come. “I’ll think about it.”

“Whatever.”

“Anyway, Koga .” Kaoru puts an emphasis on his name, before pausing to take a sip of his drink. “Adonis-kun’s voice sounded partially sexy tonight, don’t you think?”

“Adonis ALWAYS sounds sexy,” Koga says, without even hesitating. “Though you're right that it was a little different. He’s been raving about this new tea. I thought it tasted like shit but apparently it helps relax your throat before singing or something.”

“Wooow he didn’t tell me about a new tea! And I thought we were close~.”

Koga narrows his eyes at Kaoru. “Oh quit whining. You are close, we’ve just been really busy with work.”

“That’s true, I haven’t eaten lunch anywhere but the studio for weeks. The rehearsals leading up to our anniversary show were grueling. But I’ll finally have time to grab food with Adonis-kun again.”

“And me and Sakuma-senpai can finally get back to jamming once a week.” Koga slams back his drink and drops the glass on the counter, casually pouring himself another one.

Kaoru pays this no mind. They’re celebrating their anniversary today after all, and being back at his house means he should be able to get as inebriated as he wants. Kaoru finishes off his drink, hoping to get a little more drunk himself, but not so drunk that he’s throwing up anywhere.

“Invite me sometime,” Kaoru offers between fresh sips. “My guitar has been getting rusty since I haven’t had time to play recently.”

“Nah if I invite you then I need to invite Adonis too. And then it won't feel like a jam session anymore, it’ll just be UNDEAD practice. Why don’t you come over alone sometime and I’ll show you a few things you can work on to keep yourself from getting rusty. And then we can talk over drinks like this.”

“Maybe we should make it a weekly thing? I’ve been meaning to make more time to see Leon-chan anyway.” Leon yips from where he’s been prancing between the pairs feet. Kaoru can’t help but lean down and run a hand through his fur.

“Hmmph. Applying to be my apprentice are you?” Koga puts his hands on his hips and gives Kaoru a big cocky smirk. “Just know that you will never be as good as the great Oogami Koga!”

Kaoru shakes his head with a smile. “That was never my goal, but I’ll agree with you. I’ll never be as good as the great Oogami Koga .”

“Hey!” Koga exclaims with an out of character seriousness. “Don’t go putting yourself down. If you give up you’ll never win!”

Kaoru chuckles through his fingers. “Who’s side are you even on?”

“Well,” Koga takes another sip of this drink. “I guess I wouldn’t mind hangin’ out with ya some more. And Leon probably misses goin’ on walks with ya.”

“Oooo, Koga’s slurring. Is he finally really drunk~?”

“Shaddup.”

Leon paws at Koga’s legs, pouting that Koga hasn’t been giving him enough attention.

“The old man seems to want us ta move to the couch, and I’ve had enough to drink tonight anyway.”

“Anymore and you might be the one throwing up on the floor.”

“Pssh, I can hold my liquor. I’m just doing you a favor and stoppin’ ya before you go too far.”

Kaoru giggles before downing the rest of his drink and following Koga into the living room. He wobbles a little, but nowhere near as badly as Koga, who almost faceplants onto the cushion.

“C’mere boy. That’s it, who’s a good boy? You are! Who’s a good boy?” Koga babbles as he runs his hands through an elated Leon’s fur. Kaoru watches on with a smile. It’s like the cool and serious Koga took the night off, and only this dog loving man with a contagious grin remains.

Koga glares at him, so taking the hint Kaoru takes his seat next to him. It’s not so small that their thighs are touching, but they’re still in each other's personal space.

There’s something about this Koga that leaves Kaoru feeling especially fond. The Koga who loves taking care of and spending time with his dog. The Koga who makes time to play trading card games with his friends between jobs. The Koga who can nerdily ramble on about why rock music is the best thing in the entire world. The Koga who takes in a bunch of juniors, and makes sure they’re set up to have better opportunities than he did. The Koga who will do anything for his unitemates that he loves. That’s the Koga that Kaoru adores. The one he looks up to, even if Kaoru is the older one.

“Playboy–,” Koga whines as Leon hops away satisfied. “Didya wanna sleep on my bed? I don’t mind takin’ the couch.”

“Nah, I’m the guest. I don’t mind the couch.”

“No way~ I’d be a bad host if I made ya sleep on the couch.”

“How drunk are you?” Kaoru asks as Koga’s hands continue to pet the air. “Will you even make it to your bed?”

“Nop. So I guess ya will have to sleep there instead.”

“Cmon,” Kaoru says with a roll of his shoulders. “I’m not taking your bed. Let me drag you there.”

“You couldn’ drag me anywhere even if ya tried. Besides, why do ya not sound drunk. I literally saw you drink jus’ as much as me.”

“I’m just more used to drinking than you are so I can pass as sober for longer. I’m still drunk. If I close my eyes for too long I’m going to fall asleep sitting on your couch.”

Koga scoots forward, trying and failing to intimidate Kaoru by leaning over him. “So maybe youuu’re the one who’s too drunk to walk to the bedroom.”

Kaoru smirks, pushing Koga lightly on the chest and towering over him in return. “I won't deny that I could fall on my ass. But you won't have to see it because you’re sleeping in your bed.”

Koga smirks, resting his hand on Kaoru’s chest, readying to playfully push him and offer his own retort. “Well when you’re comfortably in my bed I’ll–”

Kaoru doesn’t know why he does it, but instinctively he leans forward towards Koga, who’s still trying to tower over him, and knocks their lips together. Despite the force that went into it the kiss is soft, warm. Kaoru closes his eyes right away, it’s the proper kiss etiquette after all. Meanwhile Koga’s eyes are open wide, and Kaoru can feel his body stiffen under his touch.

After a brief moment that feels like eternity, Kaoru pulls back and peers at Koga with curious eyes.

Koga blinks a few times to regain his bearings.

“Wha- what the fuck?” Koga sputters out. “Why did you do that?”

“Ehh–?” Kaoru questions with a tilt of his head. “Did I read the room wrong?”

“No you're– No that's not it.“ Koga chews on his lip. “You idiot, we're both drunk. What if we regret doing this tomorrow?”

Kaoru raises an eyebrow. “Will you regret it?”

“That's– That's not the point.” Koga’s words start speeding up in an anxious ramble. “You're drunk and you might be acting differently than you really feel, and you can't consent like this, and– and– if you don't actually like me it'll crush me so you should have waited until you were sober because–”

“Koga,” Kaoru laughs, completely cutting him off. “Such a gentleman, thinking about things like consent. I was just going to kiss you, not fuck you.”

“I– That's not what I–. You–” Koga bubbles up with embarrassment.

Kaoru can’t hold back his chuckles. “Stop thinking so hard. Who cares if we're drunk. If you want it, and I want it, then what's the problem?”

“I– But–,”

Koga pulls his knees to his chest and looks over to where Leon has fallen asleep. Kaoru doesn’t know if Koga considers the pup’s distinct “Hrrrmzzzzz” as advice.

After a moment Koga looks back to Kaoru. “What if you don't want it?”

“I kissed you?” Kaoru offers like it’s nothing.

“You… You kissed me.” Koga acquiesces, “Right.” His eyes dart away from Kaoru again, and Kaoru starts to feel concerned.

“… Koga?”

Suddenly Koga dives back onto Kaoru, smushing their lips together. It’s a lot more violent than their first kiss, and it’s clear to Kaoru that Koga doesn’t have a lot of experience. But he accepts it wholeheartedly anyway.

Koga remembers to close his eyes this time, and out of courtesy Kaoru does the same; Not before taking a moment to absorb how cute Koga looks like this however. The view makes him smile into the kiss, and Koga retaliates by opening his mouth slightly. Kaoru takes the chance to deepen the kiss, pushing his tongue lightly against Kogas. This makes Koga hiss in excitement.

Meanwhile Kaoru softly runs his hands along Koga’s back, not gripping too tightly. Just enough to make it known that they’re there. Koga on the other hand has a rough hand gripping the back of Kaoru’s neck, and another on the small of his back. They’re tense, but as the moment continues they slowly relax.

After less than a minute Kaoru pulls back to get some air. Koga immediately gasps as if he hadn’t been breathing.

“Didn’t know you had that in you,” Kaoru teases.

“Yeah, well.” Koga rubs his lips on the back of his hand, and Kaoru chuckles at the bad kiss etiquette.

“I’d love to continue this,” Kaoru offers. “But we’re both really drunk, and it’s getting really late. We should probably get to bed.”

Koga hesitates. “In the morning then?”

“Yeah,” Kaoru smiles. “In the morning.”

“Good… Well…” Koga starts to stand, before losing his balance and falling right back on the couch on top of Kaoru.

Kaoru laughs. “Guess neither of us are sleeping in your bed then?”

“Shuddup.” Koga groans, closing his eyes. “Just go to bed.”

Kaoru attempts to pull them both into some kind of comfortable position; Koga’s mostly resting on top of Kaoru, with his head on his chest. Kaoru’s a little bit too tall, and his legs are hanging past the end of the armrest. It’ll be hell in the morning, but for now it feels just right.

Once he has them in a position somewhat appropriate sleeping, Kaoru relaxes and kisses Koga on the forehead.

Koga groans but doesn’t otherwise move or open his eyes.

“G’d night wan-chan,” Kaoru offers with a fluff of Koga's hair, before closing his eyes and falling asleep.

Notes:

I don't know what happened, I blinked twice and suddenly my hands had written this entire fic. Because I wrote it so fast I didn't edit it as much as I usually do, sorry about that.

Endgame for the two of them is whatever you imagine it to be, personally I'm a polyUNDEAD guy but it could go a lot of ways.

Title is also the title of the song To: My Old Self by Real Friends. Not necessarily the most fitting song, but I don't think it would be out of place on a Kaoru playlist.

It wouldn't be impossible for me to add a chapter two where they wake up the next morning and talk, but don't count on it.

Thanks for reading as always!~
